I have to admit he did it.

If you had told me a year ago that a 17 year old Honduran American member of the LDS Church with a funny last name would be the oods on favorite to win the seventh season of America Idol, I wouldn't have believed you.  But, it looks like David Archuleta is going to win.

Of course, he ain't won it yet.  The voting's not over.

Just like the voting's not over this primary season.

The Electoral College needs a football team

Tue May 20, 2008 at 09:12:51 AM PDT

The Electoral College sucks.  No football team, no basketball team, no big time sports at all.

The social scene is worse.  No greeks.  No indies.  Nothing to do in town.

The available course selection is awful.  One major.  PoliSci.

Unfortunately, it's the only college every American president has to successfully complete.

Should the Democratic Party commit to abolish the electoral college and provide for direct popular election of the president and vice president?

B.O.:  Are you gonna do it this time?

Sun May 18, 2008 at 08:55:06 AM PDT

All he had to do was win New Hampshire . . .

All he had to do was win the popular vote in the Ohio and Texas primaries . . .

All he had to do was win Pennsylvania . . .

All he had to do was contest West Virginia (not walk away and lose 2:1) . . .

And she'd have been gone.

John Edwards endorses . . .

Thu May 15, 2008 at 09:01:04 PM PDT

Hard on the heels of his successful eight year presidential campaign, which resulted in a massive block of 18 +/- delegates to the 2008 Democratic national convention, John Edwards issued the following endorsements:

The Red Sox for 2007 MLB World Champions!

Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House!

The New York Giants for 2008 Super Bowl Champs!

No Country for Old Men for 2008 Best Picture Oscar!

Obama's choice:  Win, or Get Even?

Wed May 14, 2008 at 05:42:58 AM PDT

Hyper partisans on both sides (Hello, my name is Barry!) have allowed this primary season to devolve into a real battle to the mutual death.  But, despite the best spinners' spin, the race is within 2 or 3 points of 50/50 by every measure (other than raw number of states won - - and, if you don't weigh the value given big Democratic states like California or NY or PA or Illinois, or discount small republican states like Utah and Alabama or Idaho, you're not being serious).

And now, it's gotten to this:

Obama's 47 (and falling) state strategy

Tue May 13, 2008 at 04:47:18 PM PDT

The overwhelming, embarrassingly huge rejection of Obama by the West Virginia Democratic Party, this late in the game and after Obama's all but wrapped it up, indicates that West Virginia goes Republican in an Obama / McCain contest.  (Losing 3:1 among women and workers earning under 50%?  Yikes!)

Likewise, Obama's failure to extend the olive branch by seating the Michigan and Florida delegations as per their primaries (even though seating delegations pledged overwhelmingly to Hillary won't effect anything but his ego), combined with the continued shenanigans and corruption of Detroit-area Democratic elected officials (starting with the self proclaimed "hip hop mayor"), puts those two states in McCain's column.

How embarrassing will WVa be for BO?

The pundocracy agrees - - Hillary must drop out !!!

The blogosphere agrees - - Hillary must drop out !!!

The late night comedians agree - - Hillary must drop out !!!

She's out of money, out of support, out of luck and out of chances to win.  A Hillary nomination is impossible, implausible and un-freaking likely!  Hillary must go !!!

So, just how embarrassing will a Hillary romp on Tuesday in West Virginia be for Obama?

What'd I miss ????

Sat May 10, 2008 at 09:26:05 AM PDT

I've been out of pocket for the last week, with business trips and family issues.

So, what'd I miss?

Did Obama win North Carolina and Indiana, forcing Hillary out of the race?  I mean, he started out over 20% in the lead in both states, and he out spent her 4:1, so he should have swept!  Good on him!  (I was in Melbourne for part of the week.)

I endorse Barack Obama

Sun May 04, 2008 at 09:00:11 PM PDT

. . . if he beats Hillary in North Carolina by as great a margin as she beat him in Pennsylvania, and if he wins Indiana.  In other words, if he sweeps tomorrow convincingly.

Of course, it's not just about me.  You'd see a rush of super delegates to his camp, and her funds will dry up.  It would be over for the woman I believe should be our first female, and could be one of our best, presidents.

On the other hand, if she wins Indiana by at least 2 or 3%, and his lead of well over 20% in North Carolina shrinks to below 6%, and she then kicks his electoral butt in West Virginia and Kentucky and Puerto Rico . . .

If Hillary wins Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky and Puerto Rico, and makes North Carolina close, then she's on the ticket in some capacity.

Women in Iraq:  670 casualties

Sun May 04, 2008 at 08:01:12 AM PDT

Those old enough to remember the (unsuccessful) fight to add an Equal Rights Amendment to the US Constitution remember the battle lines.  It was those fighting for equal employment rights, equal contract rights, equal property rights and equal protection under the law regardless of gender vs. those opposed to unisex bathrooms, abortion on demand and women in combat.  (Seriously, that's what it was.  And, they won.)

Well, every upscale trendy restaurant seems to have adopted unisex bathrooms, without any noticeable uptick in sexual deviancy.  As to "abortion on demand", it's been a while since any national Republican gave more than lip service for the rubes on that issue.

And, women in combat?  27 dead and 14 wounded in Afghanistan, and 94 killed and 576 wounded in Iraq.  Source:  Dept. of Defense.

Obama:  "Disrespect to me!"

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 05:55:01 AM PDT

Yesterday, after 20 years of listening to the old blowhard, through births and baptisms and deaths and marriages, week in and week out, Sunday after Sunday, Obama threw his beloved mentor, the man who brought him to Jesus, under the bus, because Rev. Jeremiah Wright's speech a day earlier at the National Press Club was "a show of disrespect to me." Me, me, me, me, me.  At least we now know who it's all about.

http://www.miamiherald.com/...

Did Obama break with Wright when he allegedly first heard of the delusional AIDS fantasies months ago, disrespecting the government, the victims and the medical profession?  No, it was a symptom of the excusable "legacy of generational bitterness".

Did Obama break with Wright when he allegedly first heard of the Farrakhan comments months ago, disrespecting the Jewish community and supporters of Israel?  No, Obama could "no more disown Wright than disown the black commuity".

How Obama Can End It, Part III

Tue Apr 29, 2008 at 05:26:02 AM PDT

First, I told him to win Pennsylvania.  But, did he listen?   NO!
http://www.dailykos.com/...

Then, I told him to offer Hillary the vice presidency - - she'd probably say no, but it would get the super delegates unstuck.
http://www.dailykos.com/...

Well, the usual peanut gallery on kos (you know, the ones posting about the imminent Gore / Carter / Edwards endorsements ever since Obama was going to win New Hampshire and end it) shot that down.

So, dedicated Democrat that I am, I'll tell Obama how he can end it next week.
