Darcy Burner's Campaign Consultant Disses Blogosphere?
Fri Feb 01, 2008 at 11:24:22 AM PDT
The post here at FireDogLake gives the skinny. The highlight (or lowlight) of Kaushik's comments is this:
As as pressure group on the Democratic Party, Kaushik said bloggers push their own agenda, and that doesn't always agree with the party leadership, combining elements of a political movement with the behavior of a traditional constituency group. He points to Lamont and his candidate's campaign as examples of the bloggers' limitations.
"They're not at the point yet where they can really swing a race," Kaushik said. His challenge is keeping Burner from becoming too closely associated with the local liberal blogosphere, which overwhelmingly supports her. "Part of my job is making sure people know the blogosphere is not the campaign," he said.
I sent $25 Darcy Burner's way a while back so I decided to call and see what her campaign office had to say. The woman who answered the phone -- who sounded highly stressed and sincere, btw -- said that Ms. Burner does not agree with Kaushik's comments, is very upset, and that working with the grassroots to build a movement is the favorite part of her (Burner's) job. Burner will apparently make a statement to address the situation.
At any rate, that's the scoop.
Help someone vote (Atlantic City Volunteer Needed)
Mon Oct 23, 2006 at 10:26:58 AM PDT
I have a recent CT resident who was married in Atlantic City, NJ 2 years ago. Is anyone willing to go to the hall of records, get a copy of this woman's marriage certificate, and send it to her via Express Mail?
Contact me for details. renska [at] earthlink -dot- net
I have at least one other married woman who is having trouble getting state ID based on having documents with both her married and her maiden names (or documents showing her name by her first marriage, her maiden name, and her second marriage).
Yanking the DSCC's Chain (a Lamonter's report from Salisbury, CT)
Tue Aug 08, 2006 at 09:27:29 AM PDT
I'm here in Salisbury, CT, doing visibility for Lamont (and "captaining" - giving volunteers coming from northern CT and MA signs and such to take to the polling places in neighboring towns).
Not terribly much action, for me, as it's possible for voters to park right in front of the Salisbury Town Hall (within the "no soliciting" zone), jump out of their car, vote, and be back behind the wheel and driving away inside of 5 minutes. But it's no great hardship to be outside on a beautiful day such as this, and I've met some great people in volunteers Rich, Russell, Jake, and Susie.
Let's Talk, Senator: Firedoglake Roots Project
Sun Apr 09, 2006 at 02:09:16 PM PDT
This Firedoglake post, is a call to anyone willing and able to visit one of their senators' offices
this upcoming week.
If you have a flexible schedule, and can easily get to one of your senator's offices, please visit http://www.firedoglake.com/... and learn how to take part in this group action. Anyone in the NYC area can email me at renska [at] earthlink [dot] net.
The idea isn't to protest, it's to present the firm but friendly (as we can manage) face of concerned, informed constituents.
Diebold (?) Strikes Again - 43% of newly registered LA voters stricken from rolls
Thu Mar 30, 2006 at 07:34:33 AM PDT
To date 43% of newly registered Angelinos (26% of California voters, statewide), have been deemed ineligible.
California, per the 2002 "Help America Vote Act" (HAVA) is required to create a single voter database. There are unverified claims that Diebold has written the software that will transform the current CalVoter sytem, which I believe was identical software used in multiple county-level databases -- into a single database for all of California, VoteCal.
Water as Lifeblood: As Highway
Sun Sep 04, 2005 at 10:36:49 AM PDT
The spread of mankind around the globe was made possible by water. In the days before planes, before cars, before railroads, oceans and lakes and rivers were the world's highways.
And control of these highways has spawned wars, and inspired fruitless quests, such as the one for the fabled Northwest Passage.
The history of this country is the history of water. The Hudson River, the Erie Canal, and the Great Lakes were a conduit for goods and settlers. That conduit is why my hometown, New York City, rose as an economic power in the 19th century. The Port of New York is one of the reasons why the city remained one.
We know that this country has a short memory. Apparently, in our collective amnesia, we, forgot that the history of New Orleans is a history of water, too. It was a gateway into this nation for people and goods, and the means by which goods flowed down the Mississippi River from states in the country's far north.
Why does JK Rowling Hate America?
Sat Jul 16, 2005 at 07:37:56 PM PDT
(or, how soon can we can expect to hear conservatives lambasting JKR once they actually have read her latest book?)
The poor right wing. They can't catch a break. Not only is the cabal of Hollwood traitors comprised of the likes of Oliver Stone and Steven Spielberg determined to criticize our fearless leader, but from across the pond, JKR jumps on the bandwagon!
How dare she! She's in league with terrorists! But then, what can you expect of someone who writes about magic? Clearly, she's morally suspect. And in league with Satan.
I ask you, why does JK Rowling hate America? Haven't we given her enough money? That's what I call biting the hand that feeds you...
(Warning: Hereafter be SPOILERS for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince)
AZ Volunteer Requests Help
Fri Oct 08, 2004 at 05:51:06 PM PDT
I traveled from Brooklyn to help the Arizona Democratic Party in Tempe turn out the vote for Kerry. I'll be working here until 10/28 when I'll begin my stint as a volunteer for
Election Protection . (
http://www.electionprotectionvolunteer.org ).
But I'm also trying to help a friend back in New York connect with a community group here in Phoenix/Tempe that might be interested in running a film festival. This person ran the Imagine Film Festival which took place in NYC during the RNC.
Can anyone out there help me?
