Hang On, Isn't OBAMA Winning Texas?????

Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 10:25:46 PM PDT

Am I taking crazy pills or something?

If you win more delegates in a state, don't you win that state?

I mean.....isn't that pretty basic?

How We Lost the War We Won

Wed Dec 07, 2005 at 11:10:50 AM PDT

If Howard Dean has a fault, it is that being direct and ahead of the curve can make you a little too sound-bitable. Dean is abbreviates his arguments moving stright from point A to point E. He must learn to take us through the interim steps in his reasoning. He would also do well to sugar-coat things just a little for his political patients. The truth is America has already won the war in Iraq. The Saddam Hussein regime is deposed and the ability of Iraq to project military power is destroyed. And yet Howard Dean is right that we can't win this war.

See you on the flip.

Dean's Chairmanship: We Are Winning a Battle, But We Must Win the War

Fri Feb 11, 2005 at 12:24:47 PM PDT

Tomorrow, we will see Howard Dean elected DNC Chair.   For the first time, I will contribute money to the DNC.  But there are a couple of things tugging at the back of my mind.  These thoughts came into focus as I read an e-mail request for contribution I received from John Kerry.  It was an ask that I had expected to see.  But the subject line got the blood flowing: Stand with Howard Dean.

US Warned About Smuggling in UN Oil-for-Food Program

Fri Jan 14, 2005 at 04:00:42 PM PDT

From the Financial Times, "A  joint investigation by the Financial Times and Il Sole 24 Ore, the Italian business daily, shows that the single largest and boldest smuggling operation in the oil-for-food programme was conducted with the knowledge of the US government."

Will the Real Ownership Society Please Stand Up?

Thu Dec 30, 2004 at 11:54:45 AM PDT

I just watched the DVD, How Democrats and Progressives Can Win, Solutions from George Lakoff. I think Lakoff is much more successful in recognizing the need for Democrats and progressives to engage in framing political debate than he is in actually framing political issues. The language he uses is actually only compelling to liberals. It is no death blow to Evangelical Right Wing Conservative political rhetoric.

So, I propose aggressive adoption of the following frame:

Bush is full of Texas horsepucky when he invokes his "ownership society." An ownership society would transform us into shareholders, but that's not what his programs are about. His proposal for Social Security is to borrow yet more money and divert privatized profit as transaction fees to the financial services industry. He is yet again digging America deeper into a debtor society. His insane proposal is nothing more than a crude shakedown of the American workforce.

The Lakeoff Drinking Game

Tue Nov 23, 2004 at 04:54:46 PM PDT

OK, the following is offered in the spirit of fun, social activity and continuing the tradition of rendering the internet a more interactive place.

Just in time for the holidays.  The Lakeoff drinking game.  Invite your friends and colleagues over for a Kossathon.  Anytime someone reads a post that mentions Lakeoff, take a drink.  Anytime someone reads the phrase "framing" take a drink.  Reading a post that exhorts you to adopt a frame that will be effective with moderate Rebublicans -- chug the drink.

This could be implemented at meetups too.

Note: microveldt in no way condones excessive drinking.  But, bloody-hell, 4 more freakin' years!??!

Abu Ghraib Reports and Press Conferences

Wed Aug 25, 2004 at 05:45:10 PM PDT

While the media outlets are focused on debating the ins and outs of the SBVT, Vietnam Veterans Against the War, 527s and Kerry's and Bush's service records, yesterday and today have served up a wealth of information on Abu Ghraib detention and interogation abuses.

Bush/Sommers '04?

Tue Aug 24, 2004 at 05:50:35 PM PDT

As a resident of Washington state's 36th legislative district and supporter of Alice Woldt's primary challenge against 32 year incumbent democrat Helen Sommers, I was suprised to see a house sporting a Helen Sommers yard sign and Bush/Cheney '04 signs in the window and on the front door.
