Obama Organizing Fellows: Apply Now!
Thu Apr 03, 2008 at 12:45:09 PM PDT
You should probably have received this e-mail now if you are an Obama supporter, but it is important to highlight this program.
First the campaign provides the justification for this program:
I want to tell you about one of the most exciting projects of this campaign. It's called the Obama Organizing Fellowship.
When I was a young man, I was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement and the idea of people working at a grassroots level to bring about change.
I got my chance on the South Side of Chicago, as a community organizer, and it was the transformative experience of my career.
It allowed me to put my values to work and to see that real change comes not from the top-down, but from the bottom-up, when ordinary people come together around a common purpose.
The experience changed the course of my life -- and I want to share that kind of opportunity with you.
That's why we're introducing a program that's going to train a new generation of leaders -- not only to help us win this election, but to help strengthen our democracy in communities across the country.
If this interests you, follow me over the fold...
NFL Opening Night counter-programs McCain
Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 04:39:40 PM PDT
The date is September 4th, 2008 and the choice is yours. Which would you rather watch, the NY Giants against the Washington Redskins or John McCain accepting the Republican nomination?
While I know that many of us here will be watching the Republican Convention, I don't think that is the case for most Americans. While the game is scheduled to begin an hour and a half early to take the convention into account, I don't imagine those watching the game will stay on for the convention.
Students for Barack Obama
Sun Mar 30, 2008 at 09:22:24 AM PDT
One of the ways that Senator Barack Obama is changing the way presidential campaigns are done is by inspiring the grassroots to take action. In Senator Obama's announcement speech over a year ago he said:
Each and every time, a new generation has risen up and done what's needed to be done. Today we are called once more - and it is time for our generation to answer that call. For that is our unyielding faith - that in the face of impossible odds, people who love their country can change it.
Barack Obama
There was a group of people that was taking these words to heart before they were even uttered.
Obama Organizing Fellows: Volunteer Opportunity
Sat Mar 29, 2008 at 10:29:38 AM PDT
One of the things that the Obama campaign has been spectacular about is taking online support and turning it into on-ground support.
We have seen this with Obama's online fundraising which is unmatched. This has allowed Obama to focus on campaigning and not have to worry about fundraising. This fundraising has allowed him to compete in every state.
We have seen this ability with the Camp Obama program last summer. Thousands of people, or all ages and experiences, were trained to make them the most effective grassroots leaders possible. I went through this training and it was a truly wonderful experience... but he is now improving on an already good program.
Positive Change at the FEC (Winning)
Fri Feb 22, 2008 at 05:11:39 AM PDT
We just discovered the only way to get the change we want, force them to give it to us. As many of you are well aware, the FEC currently lacks a quorum because Senate Democrats have been unwilling to confirm one of the President's nominees and he has said all are nothing. As a result, we have been locked in stalemate. How do we have a chance to break the stalemate? Keep refusing to confirm them, follow me below the fold for more.
Obama: More than 900,000 Donors
Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 12:17:55 PM PDT
The Obama campaign just sent out an e-mail indicating that they have received donations from more than 900,000 donors. They are closing in quickly on having 1,000,000 donors to this campaign and they are asking you to help. Come below the fold for my story and the e-mail.

Reflections on NIU
Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 03:58:57 PM PDT
My girlfriend is doing an internship for college credit. In this class she is required to write a weekly journal reflecting on either the discussions they have in class or what she is doing in her internship. Instead she wrote a journal on the tragedy at NIU.
Upon reading this, it was obvious to me that it was something which ought to be shared. She has given me permission to post it here.
Madame Speaker Supports Obama's argument
Fri Feb 15, 2008 at 02:51:41 PM PDT
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to come down on the side of the Obama campaign in two recent process arguments. When discussing the role of super delegates she suggested that they ought to ratify the will of the people. She specifically said,
It would be a problem for the party if the verdict would be something different than the public has decided.
In addition she weighed in on seating the delegations from Michigan and Florida saying,
Well, I don't think that any states that operated outside the rules of the party can be dispositive of who the nominee is. That is to say they can't make the difference because then we would have no rules.

MSNBC Calls Super Tuesday for...
Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 07:17:56 PM PDT
MSNBC is currently doing an hour long state by state analysis of tomorrow's primary contests. Most based upon polls which they are picking one-by-one. It is hosted by Dan Abrams. I will record their predictions here as they come. Feel free to debate their conclusions below. They are only saying "leaning." I will stick to their wording, just because I'm nice.
Note: I do not endorse these predictions, but as the media sets up the CW it will be interesting to see what they are saying going into tomorrow.
Tennessee Polls: Clinton ? - Obama ?
Fri Feb 01, 2008 at 02:35:17 PM PDT
Newly released poll:
Clinton 36
Obama 31
Edwards 7
Undecided 25
Margin of Error +/- 5%
http://www.wsmv.com/...
New poll out of Tennessee shows Obama's support evenly spread and Clinton's support concentrated in the east part of the state.
An Insider Advantage poll out today shows an entirely different result.
Clinton 59
Obama 26
Undecided 8
Margin of Error +/- 4%
This poll, which has a one night sample, suggests that Tennessee will be a blowout for Clinton. We will know in 4 days!

WTF? Obama, CHRISTIAN CRAZY?
Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 09:17:35 AM PDT
OK, I know that we are quick to jump to conclusions sometimes here in the netroots. There was an MSNBC post on First Read that someone linked to earlier. I found it interesting that Obama was sending out a mailer that spoke about his Christianity, so I thought I would look and see what the mailer said exactly. You can form your own opinion, follow the link:
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/...
Now, nowhere do I see Obama calling himself a "Christian Leader." Nor do I see him putting out rightwing talking points. In fact when he talks about what his Christian faith points toward as moral imperatives it talks about things such as health care and poverty.
As long as...
...47 million Americans don't have health insurance
...half of South Carolina students don't graduate from high school
...our country is fighting in a war in Iraq that never should have been authorized and never should have been waged
...37 million Americans live in poverty forgotten by their leaders in Washington
...OUR CONSCIENCE CANNOT REST.
Michigan Voting Oddities: Update 1
Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 08:01:10 PM PDT
I'm not one to sign on to conspiracy theories of any kind, but when I was perusing the county by county results in Michigan I noted something interesting. Uncommitted got second place or better in all but four counties. In four counties uncommitted got exactly 0 votes.
If anyone has any information on why Dickinson, Houghton, Otsego and Wexford counties reported 0 votes for uncommitted I would be very interested.
Update: According to smitha007:
There was some kind of major computer programming error in 20 counties that registered uncomitted votes wrong, or something like that.
New Hampshire Prediction Thread
Fri Jan 04, 2008 at 01:17:00 PM PDT
There are a couple of interesting factors going into New Hampshire.
- Obama just won Iowa
- Most recent Suffolk poll:
Hillary 37
Obama 25
Edwards 15
- Weather - 46 degrees and rainy
- Hillary wants to start drawing contrasts
- There is a debate on Saturday
Given all this information it is foolish and irresponsible to being making predictions. So lets get started.
