skippy's not dead yet

Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 07:11:46 PM PDT

i want to thank everyone who voiced concern about me in this diary.

i just read it, and i must say, i also am unaware of why you can't get anywhere to my account on dkos.

you can still visit my blog.

i'm still able to post a diary (or at least, i'm able to write a draft...we'll see when i'm done if i can post it or not).

writers who support the band rush on strike at skippy

Sat Mar 15, 2008 at 01:47:42 PM PDT

as some of you may know, skippy's music club has a mission statement that encompasses the late great louis armstrong's theory of music:  there is two kinds of music - the good and the bad.

to that end, skippy has tried to bring his gentle readers the best in a wide variety of genres...from rock to alternative country, opera to golden oldies, jazz to the latest bands seen on fuse-tv.

but we never, ever, ever! will bring you any rush.

national columnist steals from media bloodhound's blog

Sat Nov 03, 2007 at 11:44:15 PM PDT

patterico's pontifications (who graciously links to us, as we are tangentially involved in this brewing journamalistic scandal) points out that joel stein, big-time latimes op-ed writer, was a little bit sticky-fingered when it came to premises for his column this last week:

here’s joel stein, november 2:

just how easy is it for coulter to offend someone? would any words from her mouth do the trick? to test this theory, i developed the ann coulter mad libs.™

it’s a good thing he used that ™ mark. he wouldn’t want anyone to steal his concept.

bush sues gore for nobel prize

Fri Oct 12, 2007 at 01:15:15 PM PDT

why are we not surprised?

george w. bush filed suit in the supreme court today, alleging that he, and not al gore, jr.,  is in fact the rightful recipient of the nobel peace prize.

in an erie echo of the original bush v. gore suit of 2000, lawyer jim baker is demanding a recount of the votes tallied by the prize committee.

a contingent of pasty republican congressional staffers have driven winnebagos to oslo, where they are parked outside of the nobel headquarters, demanding to see the swedes' "chads."

i would like to apologize

Sat Feb 10, 2007 at 11:38:48 AM PDT

i would like to apologize to markos for taking his words out of context in my diary yesterday.

it was pointed out to me by several dkossacks here and by two neutral parties on on my own blog that i was completely mis-reading his words.

for that, i apologize.

everything else, i still mean. but i am moving on, thanks.

i do think the personal blogrolls on each user's page is a great idea.  and remember, skippy's url is www.xnerg.blogspot.com.

put the link to dkos bloggers back and your freakin' roll, kos

Fri Feb 09, 2007 at 01:33:13 PM PDT

dear kos:

yes, it's skippy again.  now, i'm not going to whine about getting from the kos blogroll, so you can relax.

sure, it hurt, it still hurts, it will always hurt.  i didn't take it as well as booman, but i took it a whole lot better than maryscott o'connor...but, everyone must admit that in light of your own words about links on dkos

people are so fucking moronic on this site that unless you hold their hand and personally guide them to the candidate blogs, they have no chance in hell in finding them!

in that case, one has to ask, how about finding the page w/the dkossack blogs?

skippy's blog amnesty update

Tue Feb 06, 2007 at 06:45:33 PM PDT

we must thank all the blogs, from the big ones, including crooks&liars and instapundit, to the middlin' ones, like ours, to the new, smaller blogs, who have rallied in support of our self-indulgent whine about getting cut off of two major and one general blog rolls.

we have had so many blogs add us to their rolls we feel like a high school girl being asked to the prom by the whole foot ball team...which makes us wonder if we should bother with underwear at all.

kos, put my f'ing blog back on your roll

Mon Feb 05, 2007 at 05:00:51 PM PDT

dear marcos;

all snark aside, i am deeply disappointed that you would remove skippy from your blogroll.

especially considering that skippy has been around only 3 or 4 months less than dailykos, and i've been a dkos member since that time.  with the exception of one sunday in 2003 when i just couldn't bring myself to turn on the computer, i have blogged consistently everyday for 5 years come july.  i'm not a flash in the pan.

i wonder how many other dkos users with user id's under 2000 have their blogs dumped off the roll?  maybe kid oakland, i don't see his blog there. but, really...you have actually hurt my feelings, kos.

it's not as if skippy hasn't had a role in the history of blogs becoming an important part of the political and media landscape, and no, i'm not being snarky here.

cnn "breaks" the blackwater story

Tue Jan 30, 2007 at 03:00:54 PM PDT

nice of the mmm (multi-millionaire media) to catch up with blogtopia, and yes, we coined that phrase, but jack cafferty, usually a lone stalwart among the drivel that is cnn, showed that he should be riding the short bus today by "breaking" the story that there are (gasp!) private independent contractors acting as para-military in iraq.

update on housing defaults

Fri Jan 26, 2007 at 01:12:05 PM PDT

we cross-posted our discussion of california housing defaults over at booman tribune the other day. we got some interesting comments with links to even more articles about the current housing debacle slump.

we discuss these after the jump:

california housing defaults double last year

Wed Jan 24, 2007 at 06:57:40 PM PDT

things are not all that rosey w/the housing market in california. the east bay business times reports that mortgage defaults are at an 8 year high:

the number of mortgage default notices filed against california homeowners jumped last quarter to the highest level in more than eight years, a real estate information service reported.

lending institutions sent homeowners 37,273 default notices during the october-to-december period. that was up by 36.9 percent from 27,218 the previous quarter, and up 145.3 percent from 15,196 for the fourth quarter 2005, according to dataquick information systems.

empty wheel in the dead trees media

Mon Jan 22, 2007 at 09:10:41 AM PDT

marcy wheeler, aka emptywheel, got a nice write up in the ann arbor news for her part as observer in the scooter libby trial:

when assistant u.s. attorney general patrick fitzgerald delivers opening arguments today in the perjury trial of former white house staffer i. lewis "scooter'' libby, internet users globally will be able to read about it as it's happening for the first time in history.

many segments of the blogosphere will be reading marcy wheeler's take on the action.

skippy hops on the "althouse is an idiot" bandwagon

Sun Jan 14, 2007 at 02:26:38 PM PDT

as a rule, we stay away from the flamewars in blogtopia; we think there are better targets for small-time citizen pundits to aim their wrath at than each other. and so, we have tried to stay away from pointing out how utterly disingenuous ann althouse can be in her writings, for a variety of reasons.

for one thing, it's rather like stealing candy from a baby, only you don't actually get any candy afterwards. for another, so many other bloggers have done it so much better than we ever could.*

gen-x and the quarter-life crisis

Wed Jan 10, 2007 at 08:41:01 AM PDT

the skippy's had lunch today w/mrs. skippy's 26 year old niece, and she had some pretty interesting things to say in general about the way the country is going.

now, she comes from a family that actually voted for awol the first time, but has slowly come to realize how duped they were that year.

however, the niece (we'll call her "neice") is in show biz, and so carries some pretty liberal viewpoints with her thru her life.

totally unsolicited, neice told the skippy's that she was talking to her father (skippy's brother-in-law), and her father laughed when she told him about a new phenomenon her generation is coming upon: the quarter-century crisis.

we explain it after the jump:

michael berube: the lastest victim of ted barlow disease

Tue Jan 09, 2007 at 11:24:02 AM PDT

the latest victim of tbd:  the erudite michael berube.

also, it looks as if kevin hayden of american street is coming down with a bad case of tbd.  and digby informs us that billmon and jeanne d'arc have called it quits (we already knew about kevin of catch.com).

tell brian williams: democratic, not 'democrat' party

Fri Jan 05, 2007 at 02:58:27 PM PDT

our buddy echidne of the snakes, one of the great guest bloggers working over at eschaton these days (duncan who?), has a modest proposal, with which we concur:

because it is the era of new bipartisanship, at least based on what i hear from the right of the political aisle, i have a very minor request:

would it be too difficult for all you conservatives to stop dropping the "ic" at the end of the democratic party? it's like that obama-osama thingy. probably just an oversight, but as we are now all civil and courteous, how about fixing this little irritation?

we go even further. in light of brian williams, national anchor for nbc news, constantly saying "democrat party," why not email him to request that he revert back, in the spirit of new bipartisanship, to the traditional term "democratic party?"

documented media bias against edwards, second attempt

Wed Jan 03, 2007 at 09:57:15 AM PDT

[ed. note:  for some reason, our first attempt to publish this diary got stuck in draft limbo.  we can't get it out.  the software tells us we don't have permission to read our own diary.  dkos tech has yet to respond to our inquiry.  and we're out of milk for our coffee.

we hate scoop. but, we continue:]

we are not particular fans of john edwards, and we haven't decided whom, if anyone we are going to endorse in the upcoming presidential elections. we don't dislike the former senator, we just are taking a wait and see attitude before we commit.

but we are big fans of fair play and the truth, so it behooves us to point out the already-heavy handed biases against john "crossing over" edwards that we are seeing in the mmm (multi-millionaire media).

we discuss the examples we have found this week, and touch upon the overall meaning of this in terms of journalistic fairness, after the jump:

breaking - gerald ford dead at 93

Tue Dec 26, 2006 at 08:56:03 PM PDT

ok, that's what msnbc just reported on tv.  who knows if it's true.  i can't find any corroboration on it yet.

i just wanted to be the one to get a 'breaking' diary on kos.

upon edit:  cbs corroborates, text after the jump:
