John McCain WILL overturn Roe vs. Wade

Sat Apr 05, 2008 at 06:10:02 PM PDT

Update: Please recommend.  This is not a pro-choice or pro-life issue.  It's a common sense issue.

With the Democratic nomination so close I've begun to notice a lot of "I'll vote for McCain if [my candidate] doesn't win the nomination" talk.  You think this talk would come from independents and moderate Republicans, but recently I've even heard it coming from the mouths of Democrats. Any pro-choice, or responsible pro-life, American needs face reality and realize that:

JOHN MCCAIN WILL OVERTURN ROE VS. WADE

For Obama Supporters-Make Calls from Home!

Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 11:38:10 AM PDT

I know this is going to be a short diary but these calls could very well influence this extremely close election.  By going to http://my.barackobama.com/... you can sign up and make calls from the comfort of your own home.  Just use your cell and laptop.  Reminding people to vote the day of the election is extremely important.  Believe it or not, there are lot of people who don't follow politics closely (shocker hu?!).  Let's turn out those extra voters and make history!

Obama wins endorsement of key Nevada Unions

Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 11:54:38 AM PDT

Hot off the presses from politicalwire.com:

Sen. Barack Obama secured the endorsement of the Culinary Workers union in Nevada, ABC News reports. "The endorsement of the 60,000-member Culinary Workers union is seen as the biggest get in Nevada, a state which votes Jan. 19."

Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Sun reports Obama also won the backing of the Service Employees International Union Nevada last night, ending "a tortured process that unveiled infighting within its ranks."

Forgive me if this has been diaried elsewhere but I did not see it.  This is a big help to Obama as it was thought the establishment would start lining up behind Hillary Clinton.  It's clear that this is anyone's race, and no one is a front runner.

I'd also like to ad that anyone who thought this race was over, for Hillary or Obama, was crazy.  Clinton has been the front runner for over a year and to think she'd fade away in five days is folly.  This is going to be a race for ages and I would hope both sides keep this positive and not resort to personal attacks.  We're all Democrats here.  May the best candidate win.

My College Application Essay

Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 04:48:20 PM PDT

I first wrote this essay several months ago when I began applying for colleges.  I was asked to describe a passion in my life and I unquestionably chose politics.  Well now the college decisions are rolling around and I felt it would be a good time to post this.

Barack Obama to announce on MLK day?

Mon Jan 08, 2007 at 04:26:00 PM PDT

Thats the rumor spreading throughout DC.  This from Political Insider:

There is growing speculation in Democratic political circles that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) will announce his presidential intentions on Martin Luther King Day. That timing would certainly highlight the historic nature of his candidacy.

Chairman Dean, here's your 30 second ad

Sat Oct 14, 2006 at 06:51:34 PM PDT

Video Link

Let me just offer some disclaimers.  I have never made a political ad.  I'm not one of the big shot DC ad consultants who seem to end up making the sane boring, tired, lifeless advertisements that make people yawn at the thought of politics.  And I'm certainly not saying my ad is going to result in the Bluenami we all want this November.

Netroots' Power

Sun Feb 05, 2006 at 10:46:21 AM PDT

Recently, I have seen a lot of discourse on this blog about how the Democratic Party today has no spine.  From not taking a strong enough stand on Alito and Roberts, to letting Bush jump all over then on national security for the past three years, I agree that the Democratic Party is in serious need of an ass kicking.

Roy Blunt Attacks John Murtha on Situation Room

Fri Nov 18, 2005 at 04:37:23 PM PDT

Just when you thought the GOP could not go any lower they dig themselves into a deeper hole.  On the program The Situation Room, House Majority Leader Roy Blunt called Congressman John Murtha "the poster boy for Al Jazeera."  Ironically, he made this comment just SECONDS after he called Murtha an honorable public service.  GOP doublespeak at it's finest.

As someone who has friends who fought in Vietnam and are fighting in Iraq, I find Mr. Blunt's statements repulsive.

If anyone can get the transcripts from the Situation Room, please post them so we can all see exactly what he said and we don't take his comment out of context.

Contact Roy Blunt and tell him to apologize

Which DEMOCRAT does the GOP fear the most?

Wed Sep 28, 2005 at 03:17:56 PM PDT

I saw the diary below that asked which Republican we fear the most, but I want to know which democrat you think the Republicans fear the most?

Let's remember this is not which candidate you want.  I personaly would love to see a Feingold, Kerry, or Hillary presidency but I think we all know they all have a snowball's chance in hell of winning.

An introduction to my PAC

Thu Aug 25, 2005 at 02:59:24 PM PDT

I apologize for making this diary nothing but a plug for my website, but I really feel that my PAC can make a difference in the upcoming election.  The following is an exert from the "About Us" section.
* * *

During the 2004 election, the website Kerry4Pres.com raised over six hundred dollars in just a few months for the Kerry campaign.  Although the website, received over five thousand hits and sent countless e-mails, many Americans did not hear our message and reelected the President, and the Republicans in the House and Senate.

Since 2004, those at us at Kerry4Pres.com felt compelled to continue our effort towards electing a democratic majority, and in May 2005 Billboards for America was started by Kerry4Pres alumnus Derek Mazzeo and Chris Riley.

Begala getting back in the game.

Sun Aug 14, 2005 at 02:19:34 PM PDT

Political Wire is reporting that veteran political consultant, and current CNN contributor, Paul Begala, is considering reentering the political fray by going to work for Bob Casey's US Senate campaign, in Pennsylvania.

CNN: Arrest Warrant Issued for Abramoff!!

Thu Aug 11, 2005 at 01:34:58 PM PDT

Breaking News:

Government sources have confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued for Lobbyist, Jack Abramoff, for bank fraud stemming from the purchase of a Miami area casino.  Although Congressman, Tom DeLay, is not connected with this incident, a separate grand jury in Texas, and another one in Washington, are looking into his connections with Abramoff.

Jean Schmidt. Out of her mind

Fri Jul 29, 2005 at 04:54:22 PM PDT

I just caught her appearance on Hardball and I can only think of two words to describe her.

Batshit Crazy.

This women is out of her mind.  She erupted at Gregory (Mathew's replacement) when he asked her about the war; going so far once to even say that the district "isn't so focused on the war."

Santorum still down by double didgits

Fri Jul 22, 2005 at 11:02:21 AM PDT

According to a Rasmussen poll, Sen. Man-on-Dog trails State Treasurer Bob Casey by eleven points.  This is the fourth strait poll that shows Casey leading the Republican by double didgits  With numbers like this, nothing short of a miracle will save Santorum.

An Idea For TV ads (Take back the word Liberal)

Sun Jul 10, 2005 at 05:15:53 PM PDT

One of the biggest turnoffs about the Democratic Party is the fact that "liberal" is considered a dirty word in American politics.  When people hear liberal they think of weak, indecisive, Hollywood elites, whose values are more in tune with Europe than Middle America.

What we need to do is exactly what Howard Dean has been saying to do:  Show what liberals really are.  Imagine a TV ad that shows monologs of average people talking about what it means to be a liberal.

A white guy with a southern accident talking about how liberals help the economy, and fight for average people.

A women talking about liberals standing up for education

A fire fighter describing how liberals are strong on defense.

A black women discussing liberals and voting rights.

A women talking about how liberals want to reduce the number of abortions with universal health care and reduction in poverty.

Your favorite Republicans

Sun Jul 10, 2005 at 10:01:13 AM PDT

If we could have 95 democratic senators, which five republican senators would you spare? Right now my list includes.

  1. McCain
  2. Chafee
  3. Specter
  4. Snowe
  5. Hagel

I know most of those people make you cringe, and they make me cringe on numerous occasions, but they seem to represent the old republican mantra of honest small government, and not the radical right religious extremism propagated by so many republicans today.  If only there were more of them, imagine how much more fun the debate would be...

The First Diary on Kos 3.0

Thu Jun 23, 2005 at 10:16:59 PM PDT

I've got mixed feelings about the new site.  The old Kos is the only Kos I've ever known, but I do enjoy the new large fount.  As long as the great dialog and reporting that goes on here continues, I'm sure I will be able to adjust to the site's new looks.

You can use the rest of this diary as an open thread.

P.S.  I've started my own PAC and we need money to use to purchase billboards to use against Republicans.  Please go to www.BillbordsforAmerica.com and donate today!

Catharine Harris Running for Senate

Tue Jun 07, 2005 at 07:53:42 PM PDT

As disgusting as it sounds, the women who helped George Bush steal the 2000 election just announced her candidacy for the United States Senate.  As someone who has shown a lack of concern for even the validity of elections, we must make sure that she never is elected.  If she is, you can expect all your tin-foil-hat, theories about Diabold to come eerily true.  To demonstrate the danger posed by Harris, let me show you come facts about Harris regarding the 2000 election, courtesy of Democrats.com:
