Web Proposal: Change the background color to #FFFFF0
Wed May 14, 2008 at 09:33:29 AM PDT
I would like to make a modest but symbolic change to the design of the web page, at least through the elections this fall.
Right now, the current background of the web page is white, or #FFFFFF. I suggest that it be changed to #FFFFF0, which according to the list of web colors is called "ivory".
| This is #FFFFFF, or White, the current color |
| This is #FFFFF0, or Ivory, the proposed change |
The proposed change is subtle, but I feel it is appropriate and quite symbolic.
Because where do you get ivory from?
That's right... from dead elephants.
Dancing in the Streets
Sat Mar 08, 2008 at 01:36:55 PM PDT
So today we see Republican Rep. Steve King saying "...if [Obama] is elected president, then the radical Islamists, the al-Qaida, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror."
This is one of the most asinine statements I have ever read. I thought the whole point of Islamic fundamentalism was to create an Islamic state, where the first thing they will be able to finally do is... make dancing punishable by death. Kind of defeats the purpose to celebrate that way, hmm?
Clinton Campaign Enters Third Stage of Grief
Tue Feb 26, 2008 at 03:31:46 PM PDT
We have seen in recent days Hillary Clinton has begun lashing out in anger at Barack Obama's presidential campaign, and with a recent front page article showing Clinton's new dalliance with conservative media, I had an epiphany:
Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign is progressing through the classical five stages identified by Kübler-Ross in how people cope with grief.
BREAKING: CIA destroys Karl Rove, Dick Cheney
Fri Dec 07, 2007 at 03:12:42 PM PDT
Langley, VA
December 7, 2007
As part of ongoing compliance with a formerly-secret CIA policy initiative, whereby materials that that could jeopardize the identities of CIA agents are destroyed before they could be released, the CIA has announced that it has destroyed Vice President Dick Cheney and former Presidential advisor Karl Rove. No congressional authorities were consulted before the complete destruction of the two men.

It's March 26. Where's Condi's Reply to Waxman?
Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 11:04:06 AM PDT
About two weeks ago Rep. Henry Waxman, Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, wrote another letter to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice requesting information about the fabricated Niger uranium claims that were used to sell the Iraq War to this country.
(For a summary of that letter, and what was being requested, please see this diary.)
That letter from Rep. Waxman concluded with a request for "a complete reply to my questions and document requests relating to the fabricated Niger claim by March 23, 2007."
Well March 23 came and went last Friday, and now it's March 26. I haven't heard any news stories about Sec. Rice responding to Rep. Waxman's request.
What's next for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform? Is Condoleeza gonna get served?
Missouri's Stem Cell Amendment Padding Lead
Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 12:00:05 AM PDT
Missouri's Amendment 2, the ballot initiative to make it so stem cell research cannot be outlawed, is ahead by 1.2% (around 38,000 votes) with 94% of precincts reporting. (
http://www.cnn.com/...) As I was writing this, CNN called it as passing.
The amendment was far behind in early returns, as rural Missouri counties voted against it 60 to 66%. However, the state's major urban areas -- Kansas City and St. Louis -- were in favor of the measure, and they were the last to report. At 91% reporting, the amendment was ahead by around 12,000 votes, so it looks like the amendment will get a slim majority.
The victory goes with the passing of Proposition B (raise the state minimum wage), which is ahead with 76% of the vote. Expect to see similar ballot initiatives in more states in 2008 -- Senator McCaskill probably won her Senate seat because Democratic Party voters came to the polls to support Prop. B!

Frankly, the best part of Pagegate is that it's
absolutely friggin' hysterical. This douchebag had the gall to chastize Clinton for the Lewinsky mess, and here he is doing something far, far worse.
So I've been collecting and coming up with jokes about this. Remember, the best way to destroy the Republican party is to turn it into a laughingstock -- so mock early, mock often!
If the old chestnut of "Why don't Republicans use bookmarks?" offends you in any way, shape or form, don't go below the flip.
Enron's Ken Lay Begins Tenure In Hell

Can we get a message to Paul Begala?
Sat May 13, 2006 at 09:35:31 AM PDT
So this quote really pisses me off.
What he has spent it on, apparently, is just hiring a bunch of staff people to wander around Utah and Mississippi and pick their nose."
-- Dem strategist Paul Begala on DNC Chair Howard Dean's spending, CNN, 5/11
It pisses me off so much, I want to do nothing more than get in Begala's face, and start picking my nose.
The Hunting Song by Tom Lehrer
Mon Feb 13, 2006 at 03:56:22 PM PDT
I haven't seen anyone reference this gem by one of history's greatest satirists, so I thought I would kick off the meme. It seems quite apropos to recent events. :)
I always will remember,
'Twas a year ago November,
I went out to hunt some deer
On a morning bright and clear.
I went and shot the maximum the game laws would allow:
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow.
FOR SALE: Bulk Dry Powder, mint in keg (Never used!)
Mon Jan 30, 2006 at 04:03:26 PM PDT
Hi all; I know DKos isn't usually a place for want ads, but a friend is looking to unload some stuff and asked me to pass this along...
FOR SALE: One quantity of very, very dry powder.
A while ago we picked up a large quantity of dry powder, but we couldn't seem to find a good time to try it out. It's been cluttering up the garage for a while, and we just realized today we would probably never use it. We were really careful to keep it extremely dry, so it's in perfect condition in case someone else can think of something they could possibly do with it.
If interested, please contact the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Picture available upon request. Serious inquiries only, buyer pays shipping (or arrange for local pickup in Washington D.C.).
Reality Based Community's Utter Silence
Fri Dec 16, 2005 at 12:37:07 AM PDT
We have two recent diaries on the Rec List, detailing the BBV hack of the Diebold optiscan machines, and an article on what may have happened to remove 16,000 votes from Al Gore in Florida.
My question is: WHERE HAS THE "REALITY BASED COMMUNITY" GONE TO?
You would think that the Self-Appointed Stalwart Defenders of Really Real Reality would be lining up to pooh-pooh the latest vote hacking results, then give each other 4's and rousing approval for being Really Really Real. But where are they?
Lets review the facts that are so rudely intruding into the Reality Based Community's Basis for Reality:
Why can't CNN ever tell the full story?
Thu Dec 08, 2005 at 02:14:02 PM PDT
On the cnn.com homepage, there's a story titled
Ann Coulter to audience: You're stupider than I am. It's about Ann Coulter getting booed at a university speech.
The last word of the article is given to Kareem Mohni.
UConn junior Kareem Mohni, 20, said he was disgusted by his peers' reaction to Coulter.
"It really appalled me that we're not able to come together as a group and listen to a different view in a respectful environment," Mohni said.
Well, those libruls are sure yahoos, huh? Certainly disappointing to UConn Juniors everywhere. But, who is this Kareem Mohni?
Yo' Congressman so outta touch...
Tue Nov 29, 2005 at 04:18:01 PM PDT
Inspired by the "Lieberman out of touch" story on the front page...
Yo' Congresswoman so outta touch, she gonna have "I'll have my people get back to you on that" for an epitaph.
Yo' Congressman so outta touch, he emails campaign literature to the Amish in his district.
Yo' Congresswoman so outta touch, she thinks Asian Bird Flu is the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Other "unambiguously true" things
Sat Oct 01, 2005 at 09:04:52 AM PDT
So I was thinking of Brad DeLong's and Matt Yglesias' defense of Bill Bennett, and I have to admit there's a certain logic to it. As long as what I'm pointing out is unambiguously true, and I properly disclaim that I am horrified by the prospect of what I'm describing, it's perfectly OK for me to say any awful thing that I can think of.
It is unambiguously true that if Brad DeLong and Matt Yglesias were beaten to death by a gang of bikers, it would be a horrific crime as well as a great loss to their families.
This got me thinking about what other things are unambiguously true.
Extremely graphic vulgarity below the fold. It is unambiguously true that you have been warned.
Catholic Bashing Wingers
Sat Apr 23, 2005 at 09:11:26 AM PDT
Want another point of proof that it's the right wing fundies who hate catholics? Check out the Chick Tracts catalog,
http://www.chick.com/catalog/tractlist.asp -- a handy collection of religious screeds about every imaginable topic. If you've ever been in an area visited evangelical street preachers, you've probably seen these scattered in their wake.
Want to know what the most common target of Jack's biblical Cannon-o-canon, based on the number of tracts aimed against them?
NOOOO Jesse what are you THINKING?
Tue Mar 29, 2005 at 02:12:05 PM PDT
Jesse Jackson Hugs the Tarbaby With All His Heart
Sheesh. Just when we had this albatross securely fastened around the necks of the right wing, here comes Rev. Jackson to help them with their burden.
Can you see how this is going to pan out? Now the cable news channels will have splitscreen video of Jackson with the inevitable riots after the poor woman finally expires, while Delay/Frist/Bush who STARTED this whole fiasco will be nowhere to be seen.
Place your bets folks!
