Myanmar Relief II - Bush's Second Katrina

Mon May 12, 2008 at 05:10:44 PM PDT

It seems to me that the Bush administration’s response to the disaster in Myanmar is rather...eh...two faced. Maybe Dubya should send Michael Brown to Yangon.

Bush says "world should condemn Myanmar".

AP says "bloated corpses pile up".

We've been here before.  Heck of a job.

Myanmar Relief

Mon May 05, 2008 at 07:10:28 PM PDT

Not that anyone cares, since I'm "persona non grata" at DKos and I did my GBCW a few months back, but this one is important enough to me to come back out of the shadows.

10,000+ dead in Myanmar / Burma, a humanitarian disaster of epic proportions, and the Bush administration offers $250,000 - because Laura Bush has her panties in a knot.

I guess Jenna's wedding this weekend is more important.

GBCW

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 10:39:54 PM PDT

To Mr. and Ms. UID 125,000+ who needed a nice belly laugh, and were shouting "jump, jump, jump" Tuesday night into Wednesday morning...watch the 3 point butterfly, baby...

I am embarrassed by this community - a note to Markos

Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 11:16:34 PM PDT

About six months ago, I was contemplating writing a GBCW diary.  The signal-to-noise level at Daily Kos had grown tiresome.

Meteor Blades was kind enough to talk me off the ledge at the time, but reading some of the truly venomous crap on this supposed bastion of Democratic Party, progressive political discourse has pushed me perilously close to the edge.

Pelosi to USAF: Build Your Damn Planes in the U.S.

Mon Mar 03, 2008 at 05:14:10 PM PDT

Last Friday, in a story that got buried amid the political primary wars, the U.S. Air Force announced that it had awarded a $35 billion contract for refueling planes to a European consortium, based on an Airbus design.

Today, Nancy Pelosi said (and I paraphrase): "Wait just a damn minute. Come tell congress why you can't have Americans build them in Seattle."

Good jobs for Americans.  What a concept - something the Bush administration has never understood. (more...)

Barack Obama's Cross-Party Triangulation

Sun Mar 02, 2008 at 07:39:12 AM PDT

Change.  That's what the upcoming election is supposed to be all about, right?  Then why would anyone chasing the Democratic Party nomination even consider appointing Republicans to key positions in a possible cabinet?

Lugar?  Hagel?  The Governator??  Please...

Let me state right up front that I don't have a dog in the Dem candidate fight, and will gladly support whoever is the nominee.  But this gives me cause for concern. Discussion below the flip.

The Media Paints an Impression: Ricin in Las Vegas

Sat Mar 01, 2008 at 06:48:12 AM PDT

The "big story" in the media over the past 24 hours has been the discovery of ricin vials in a Las Vegas hotel room.  While the basic narrative itself is very strange, there's also some real weirdness in the way that the story is being reported, and catapulted into the mainstream consciousness by the legacy media.  Hmmm.  Remember the anthrax attacks in 2001?  Whatever happened with that?

Award Winning Company Waterboards Employee

Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 05:39:29 PM PDT

So, you think you work for a crappy company?

A motivational coaching company in Utah is being sued by a former employee for using waterboarding as a performance improvement technique.  No word yet on whether snarling dogs, loud music, or pictures of Dick Cheney were also being used to properly inspire the employees.

Nancy Pelosi, Contempt of Congress, & a Stupid Question

Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 05:23:26 PM PDT

How is it that miscreants from the Bush administration can ignore legally issued congressional subpoenas, be cited for contempt of congress, yet still walk the streets with apparent immunity from prosecution (or arrest or detention) by the U.S. Justice Department? It goes without saying that you or I couldn't do this for a simple traffic ticket...

Make Your Views Known on PAA / FISA / Telecom Immunity

Tue Feb 26, 2008 at 02:39:56 PM PDT

The House may be taking up the issue of telecom immunity by voting on the the fatally flawed Senate version of the PAA / FISA bill later this week. Interestingly enough, House members have actually grown some cajones in recent weeks - and a PFAW / EFF petition may tip the balance in defeating the bill. Your help is needed...

Like Anyone Cares: The Real Reason We're Here

Mon Feb 25, 2008 at 07:46:54 PM PDT

Progressives are at risk of losing sight of the fact that, no matter how passionate supporters of either Obama or Clinton are, our real motivation needs to be focused a tidal wave election in November. The stupid pissing contest between the Obama and Clinton camps has gone beyond mere stupidity - the concept of "stupid" is being taken to a new level...

Huckabee's New Goal: Deadlocking the GOP Convention

Fri Feb 22, 2008 at 08:42:28 PM PDT

Against all odds, Mike Huckabee is still in the GOP race. What’s his motivation? A Veep spot on the McCain ticket? That’ll never happen. No, Huck’s still reaching for the brass ring, but via a different route.

I know it's late on Friday, and no one's going to read this diary, but here it is...

The *Real* Story in the McCain Story

Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 04:48:09 AM PDT

There's a Category 5 shitstorm slicing through the blogosphere and legacy media today about John McCain's alleged dealings with a pretty, young telecommunications industry lobbyist.

In my own head, though, that's not really the story.  After the jump, a short discussion on what I don't think the Democratic Party wants to ingnore in this whole kerfluffle...

Is Killing Animals a Necessary Qualification for POTUS?

Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 08:44:56 AM PDT

In an interesting election year revelation on Saturday, Hillary Clinton affirmed her support for gun ownership by trotting out her own past hunting experiences.

What is it with politicians who feel that they have to prove they have the ability to kill something with a weapon?

After the jump, let's explore why politicians feel they have to be able to prove they have what it takes to kill.

80 Afghans Blown Up at Dog Fighting Event

Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 09:13:12 PM PDT

Apparently, dog fighting is enough of a spectator sport in Afghanistan that 80 people can be killed, and scores injured, when a suicide bomber blows his/herself up at a dogfight in the BushCo Democratized City™ of Kandahar...no comment yet from Michael Vick.

A short, late night, heart felt lament follows the jump...

School Teacher Fired for Being PaS (Pregnant and Single)

Wed Feb 13, 2008 at 04:17:30 PM PDT

Why is it that the Roman Catholic Church would rather have a single mother become unemployed and/or on welfare than to either have an abortion or a job to provide for her child? When a diocese fires a single woman for becoming pregnant out of wedlock, that’s the message they’re sending.

No comment yet from the Huckabee campaign.

Lots more after the jump...

How F@#%ING Dare You, Mitt Romney - UPDATED Rant

Thu Feb 07, 2008 at 05:01:05 PM PDT

According to Mitt ’s bailout speech today, a vote for Hillary or Barack is surrendering to the terrorists. Message to Mitt: STFU and get the hell out of my country, you whiney, scared little man. You failed to mention that George Bush's GOP is the greatest terrorist enabling organization in the history of the planet. BTW, where's OSAMA?

GOP CW - 1/22/08 - WTF,O? - Come for the Graphic, Stay for...

Tue Jan 22, 2008 at 05:48:44 PM PDT

...the analysis.

Two more GOP presidential beauty contests were dispensed with this past weekend, so in an acronym-laden diary, it's time to examine the results and tally the official Republican delegate count to date.  Bonus: a dose of Cranium's conventional wisdom has been added to each analysis, at no charge to you, the reader!  What a deal! There's even a neat graphic below the flip. So without futher ado...

Wait.  You'd rather tear each other up in candidate diaries?  What is it with you people? ...  (Just kidding...I promise you'll like the graphic below the flip.)
