Action: Pro-war forces at Sacramento City Council tonight
Tue Nov 22, 2005 at 08:20:08 AM PDT
Move America Forward, a northern California-based group with a national reach (they helped organize the pro-war counterdemo in DC in September) is hoping to pack the Sacramento City Council meeting tonight, Tuesday Nov. 21. Their objective: to reverse the Nov. 1 resolution calling for withdrawal of the troops.

The action begins at 5:00 PST with a demo in front of City Hall, timed for the local evening news. The Council meeting is at 7:00 pm.

Will Kossites and others (Billionaires, maybe?) be there to support the 8 members of the Council who voted for withdrawal?

On Nov. 1, the Sacramento City Council passed an antiwar resolution

In response, the wingnuts at Move America Forward, GOP USA, and GOPCounties.org are mobilizing. They have posted contact info for all members of the council and are urging their adherents to call or email in protest.

If you are a California resident, better yet, a Sacramento resident, and approve of the City Council's action, this might be a good time to contact them. Contact info is in both URL's above.
Rightwing Poll on Blaming Bush - Freep it!!
Thu Sep 08, 2005 at 12:23:09 PM PDT
Newsmax.com, a rightwing noise machine, is promoting on MoveAmericaForward and other trashy sites what it calls "an urgent poll" that it plans to hype to Fox and the MSM:
The title of the poll: Who is to Blame for Katrina?
Yup, that's the title. Not, "Who is to responsible for the response to Katrina?" Or even "Who is to blame for the poor response?"
The poll wording is equally biased, of course, but you can join in the fun and make sure that Bush gets the blame at

UPDATE:
I received an email this morning from NewsMax, enrolling me in their online email news update service and promising to send me the "poll" results. So...the folks worried about spam were right.
Anniversary of Republican media payoffs, 1949
Thu Apr 14, 2005 at 08:11:28 AM PDT
On this day in 1949, reporter Roy Harris of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch uncovered widespread payoffs in the Illinois press.
The newspapers had previously devoted their energies to exposing corruption in business, government and labor. Now, for the first time, the press itself was involved in scandal: dozens of reporters under the control of the office of Illinois Governor Dwight H. Green, a Republican.
The main assignment of the reporters "was to print canned editorials and news stories lauding accomplishments of the Republican state administration," for which they and their families were paid close to $500,000. (In 2005 dollars, that would be over $2 million!)
