Democrat Charlie Wilson, our best hope in the open OH-06 race, faces a primary challenge, competing as a write-in against a weak candidate, former Republican Bob Carr. The new twist is that the NRCC has joined in, trying to throw the Democratic primary against Wilson.

The Washington Post brings us a story on Ohio: Republicans' Machiavellian Maneuver in the 6th that describes deceptive ads the Republicans are now running trying to trick Democratic primary voters into selecting Carr over Wilson.

Walter Pincus reports in Friday's Washington Post that Paul R. Pillar, the CIA's retired national intelligence officer for the Near East and Asia, is writing an expose in an upcoming issue of the journal of Foreign Affairs that intelligence was 'Misued' to justify war.

Pillar's critique is one of the most severe indictments of White House actions by a former Bush official since Richard C. Clarke, a former National Security Council staff member, went public with his criticism

I was drawn in by the teaser for David Brooks NYT op-ed The Designated Hitter "The Tom DeLay era, which ended Wednesday, was marked by one word: partisanship." curious whether he was showing another rare moment of intelligent thought.

Since most of you are blocked by the NYT subscription wall, here's what I found:

Hugh Kaufman, the 35 year EPA veteran who previously warned that the air at the WTC site was not as safe as thought, is now weighing in with some strong statements on the New Orleans floodwaters.

And it's not a pretty picture.

In The Independent (and also the New Zealand Herald), Kaufman says:

Toxic chemicals in the New Orleans flood waters will make the city unsafe for full human habitation for a decade
