Elizabeth Edwards wants to meet me!

Tue Sep 18, 2007 at 11:59:35 AM PDT

How do I know?  It says so right in the subject line of the e-mail that I just received from the Edwards campaign:

"Thursday night: Elizabeth Edwards wants to meet you"

Ah, if only they had mentioned ALL the details in the subject line.  Because of course, what she really wants is to separate me from my hard-earned cash.

Is this a shock?  A candidate for political office, appearing in exchange for campaign contributions?  No...but the way in which the e-mail framed the meeting was a bit off-putting to me.

Decision 2008: Ned Lamont for Congress! CT-04

Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 12:37:49 PM PDT

Still deliriously happy over the course of events over the past 24 hours...and still bitterly disappointed in my fellow Nutmeg State residents over their failure to see through Holy Joe's shtick.  The re-election of Joe Lieberman has consequences, not the least of which is that a promising newcomer named Ned Lamont fell short of a position wherein he could have done so much good for Connecticut and the nation.

So yeah, despite the overall good news, I'm looking for silver linings in my own backyard, which also re-elected Chris Shays, though by a margin of victory even smaller than the one he eked out in 2004.

It's not too hard to connect these dots, and urge Ned Lamont to run for Chris Shays' Congressional seat in 2008.

CT-Sen: Show a little love for...Alan Schlesinger?

Mon Oct 16, 2006 at 01:02:14 PM PDT

Contribute here to support Schlesinger's candidacy.

Following today's debate performance (which has been sufficiently blogged elsewhere), there's a very real chance that Alan Schlesinger is going to pop up on the radar screen.  Heretofore an orphaned politician who can't even get his Republican governor to endorse him, Schlesinger's commanding performance in today's debate might be enough to pop his support up into the low double digits.

Is it a smart idea to support the candidacy of a Republican candidate?  Ordinarily a question that answers itself, it's a thornier question here in the Nutmeg State today than it was a few days ago.

CT-Gov, CT-Sen: "I Pray that I'll never be in politics so long as to give an answer like THAT!"

Tue Oct 10, 2006 at 09:48:28 AM PDT

When you're a Republican governor of a blue state running for re-election, and you're asked how you feel about the candidates running for Senate, the question is an easy one to answer, right?  You tout the Republican candidate, and look to create a little mojo on his behalf?

Well, not if the state in question is Connecticut, the governor in question is Jodi Rell, and to endorse your own party's candidate would mean dissing the wolf in sheep's clothing that is calling himself "CfL" these days! URL: http://www.youtube.com/...

DeStefano's response is a classic.

How telling that the GOP can't bring itself to endorse their own candidate in Connecticut!  In Rell's defense, she did stop short of actually endorsing Holy Joe, which I guess counts for something.

Freep this poll: should ABC can the 9/11 mockumentary?

Fri Sep 08, 2006 at 07:19:26 AM PDT

So far, the wingnut vote is vastly outnumbering the vote for cancellation...take a quick click here if you're so inclined and shift the balance of this poll back where it belongs!

No, it's not a scientific poll, but the message is an important one nonetheless.  I doubt we all have time to tag every poll that comes down the road, but it surely helps to make our voices heard in whatever capacity we can.

Netroots Take Lieberman off CT ballot...at least for now

Tue Aug 22, 2006 at 12:30:36 PM PDT

If you missed this diary the first time around, you might want to take another look at it.  The original subject talked about how the Connecticut Secretary of State's office was listing Joe Lieberman on the ballot as a Democrat (and after Ned Lamont, defying both electoral reality AND the alphabet).  Well, lo and behold...same-day, and the SoS has actually fixed it!

Just saying, folks...sometimes the angry outraged phone calls actually get something done.  And it's nice to see when it does!

In anticipation of the first "three-way" polls

Wed Aug 09, 2006 at 07:37:49 AM PDT

It'll be interesting to see how the first few polls look following the electric primary here in my beloved state of Connecticut.  (I can call it "my beloved" today, since it justified my collective faith in my fellow citizens with yesterday's vote!)  Just speculating here, but my feeling is that while I expect Lieberman to be ahead, I'd be mildly surprised if it were by a huge margin.

Yesterday's vote was a bit deceptive, insofar as AMONG DEMOCRATS, I think Lamont won by a hell of a lot more than 52-48.  Yes, I know, it was a Democratic primary, but for those of you who are unfamiliar with Connecticut rules, registered Republicans are allowed to change their affiliation and vote Democratic 90 days before a primary.  Even more importantly, unaffiliated voters (which represent the largest bloc of voters in the Nutmeg State) are allowed to register Democratic for the purposes of voting in a primary 24 hours before said primary.

Lamont's Rally in Greenwich: Pictures!

Fri Aug 04, 2006 at 08:47:40 PM PDT

Got back from the Lamont rally a few hours ago, and was not at all disappointed.  There was a hearty presence of Connecticut Democrats, a lame counterpresence of Lieberman "supporters," and great speeches all around.  I also got to shake the candidate's hand tonight...told him how much I was looking forward to seeing him as "Senator Lamont."  He thanked me, then noticed the MoveOn.org t-shirt, smiled, and remarked, "Hey, you're a MoveOn guy!  You guys have been great!"

Thought you might be interested in a few pics from the rally...here's hoping I do this right and you can actually SEE something below the fold...

WSJ Wonders Whether "the Center" of the Democratic Party Will Hold

Mon Jul 31, 2006 at 07:53:41 AM PDT

http://www.opinionjournal.com/...

John Fund spills the usual amount of bile in today's WSJ editorial, questioning the will of the "hard-left wing of the Democratic party," and noting that "Mr. Lieberman's campaign is showing signs of renewed vigor."  Heh.

Far more entertaining than that, though, is his conclusion: that "if next week, political commentators wake up and find... [that] Mr. Lieberman has overcome the vitriolic onslaught of the liberal bloggers, they will have to acknowledge, that reports of the death of the moderate wing of the Democratic Party have been greatly exaggerated."

The vitriolic onslaught of the liberal bloggers...hmmmm.  As a resident and registered voter in Connecticut, I had to pen the following reply (and I post it here, only because I'm reasonably sure the WSJ won't let a rebuttal see the light of day)...

DeWine Surges in Ohio after Hackett's Departure

Sat Feb 18, 2006 at 10:07:37 AM PDT

Rasmussen reports that Mike DeWine's numbers look a lot better in Ohio this morning following Paul Hackett's untimely withdrawal from the race:

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/...

Can Sherrod Brown close the gap?  Sure.  It's February.  But if even half the backroom machinations that resulted in Hackett's withdrawal that are being reported are true, I think the Democrats have really shot themselves in the foot.  The "Fighting Dems" meme has legs, and could even be the magic bullet against the "Democrats Soft on Defense" idiocy that the GOP trots out like clockwork every election season.  But at the very least, we have to stop Swift Boating our own.
