menendez wins

Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 05:37:44 PM PDT

thank god. that and md were their best shots and we deflected one. let's get both of those and keep the lead where it seems like we might have it.

Again, we freak out about polls in NJ and i think this still shows that polling in NJ most likely oversample southern NJ. I'm not sure why they can't poll NJ well, but they definitely cannot.

BREAKING: Gov. Mark Warner announcing he will NOT run for President

Thu Oct 12, 2006 at 07:08:25 AM PDT

No story yet, but CNN reports that Democratic sources are saying he will announce today that he will not seek the presidency. Interesting. Skeletons in closet? Taking John Warner's place when he retires? Why go through all he's done and then not run? Seeking a "draft Warner" type campaign to get groundwork going?

Those republican family values...

Thu Jun 22, 2006 at 11:30:20 AM PDT

This story, as detailed by Janet Charlton is too good not to post somewhere.

Apparently, at a republican fundraiser for Swann's governor bid, the host of the party, a close friend of W, had a call girl as a date. This call girl went into a drugged frenzy and 911 had to be called. Ah, yes, republicans are all about values and traditions. Full story

Use their tools against them

Mon Nov 14, 2005 at 06:49:11 AM PDT

I like to keep abreast of the machinations of the crazy right-wing evangelical wingnuts, so I get e-mails from the American Family Association.  This morning they send a fun little e-mail I would like everyone on this site to take advantage of.

They advertised their creation of a simple FCC Indecency Complaint tool on their website (www.afa.net). The little television link on the top left allows you to very easily file a complaint with the FCC.

I say we take it for a test run, and file a complaint about O'Reilly's November 8 diatribe ("And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead.").  If calling people to violence isn't indecent, I don't know what is.

So let's fight right-wing crazy with right-wing crazy.

If we have any humanitarian and political sense...

Thu Sep 01, 2005 at 02:07:57 PM PDT

If the democratic party has any humanitarian and political sense left...they will get the entire democratic caucus (except those from the affected area who might be needed to help manage things) back to washington before the first repug arrives and start drafting everything a democratic administration would do to help this situation...present it as an option, and see if the republicans cut it back or waste time arguing about it.

Another Crazy AFA call to action

Tue Jun 28, 2005 at 11:29:53 AM PDT

American Family Association has issued another "consumer alert." (I'm not doing them the service of linking to them).

This time they are claiming an Allstate employee was fired because he wrote a totally independent critique of homosexuality and same-sex marriage based on his deeply-held religious beliefs.

Based on this e-mail, Allstate will probably receive 50,000 angry e-mails. Let's match it by sending 50,000 e-mails (especially if a customer) stressing support for justice and tolerance, and doubt that Allstate would terminate someone in the way AFA has said it.

Use THIS LINK to send a supportive e-mail. It's always fun to cancel out Dobson.

They go on to talk about the evils of Allstate, such as their teaching of "tolerance," "diversity," their donations to LAMBDA and GLADD, and giving same-sex couples benefits...all the while persecuting Christians. Yes, more evidence that in a country with 43 consecutive Christian Presidents, they are under attack.

Flag Burning Advances

Wed Jun 22, 2005 at 11:11:34 AM PDT

Flag Burning Advances

Some brave, or even just smart, democrat needs to take this issue from the rethuglicans...

Offer up different language, or demand that if we are going to protect the flag, then we should truly protect it.

No magnets, no t-shirts, no bandanas, no pants, no pins...etc.  If this is gonna happen...make it be for f-ing real instead of political stunt. If you want to protect the flag...truly protect it, not just from burning.

Of course, they can't say it's just from burning, as that would never pass constiutional muster, so they have it as very general. Let's insist it covers everything, and see how they feel.

Big Business Covered in Santorum

Tue May 17, 2005 at 08:32:23 AM PDT

The AP, via CNN.com reports that everyone's favorite right-wing, soon-to-be ex-U.S. Senator has yet again shown his penchant for man-on-business love.

Sacrifice security to help out a business...they truly will do anything for them, even at the expense of the country. It logically makes sense, but why not think about it in the first place...oh yeah...republicans rush to seem tough on security...until business tells them it's too tough

What is that the "tactical" nuclear option??

Thu Mar 17, 2005 at 05:48:17 PM PDT

How is the Frist  plan in any outcome-based way anything but the nuclear option?

So, in his mind, and in the heads of the mindless mainstream press, limiting the amount of time debate can go on is vastly different than saying you don't need 60 votes to end debate?!?!?

I really think the media is more responsible for the destruction of this country than the republicans.

What are they there for then?

Tue Mar 01, 2005 at 07:42:29 AM PDT

In SCOTUS's decision yesterday to invalidate juvenile death penalities, Justice Scalia basically argues, not against the decision, but against the court ever doing anything that doesn't have 90% or so approval of state legislatures.

Then why is the court there? In all my legal history and american history, it was pretty stressed that their main roll is to insure that laws meet the requirements of the constitution, not that they do a poll to see if a majority of the country agrees with the law.

It's actually rather embarassing. As much as I disagree with his opinions, I've generally respected his legal mind.  In his opinion, there is a distinct lack of legal argument; rather, it seems he's borrowed Bush's talking points that the court shouldn't go against the public's morality.

Presiden'ts Poll Ratings Drop AND.....

Wed Feb 16, 2005 at 12:16:17 PM PDT

Of course the CIA tells everyone...don't forget about al qaeda

It's amazing how they know that noone in the media will even think about pointing out the transparent attempt to get everyone scared again. Apparently, we've all grown too complacent and need to be reminded why the big W is in the white house.

An Ugly, but telling, story

Sun Sep 19, 2004 at 08:07:21 AM PDT

I was at a gathering here in the city last night and heard this horrible story from a friend who lives somewhat near Madison Square Garden.

Time: Morning Rush during Republican Convention
Place: Bodega (Corner Store) near Garden

Republican couple asking Pakistani Man for coffee:"Can we have two cups of coffee. Hehehe, thank you for being nice, we're delegates"

More mindless banter that had my friend thinking it was a funny, cute exchange.

Couple gets coffee: "Thanks so much, and thanks for not bombing us"

Everyone else there...stunned silence.

Distressing - Vote for Us or go Hungry

http://www.decaturdaily.com/decaturdaily/news/040912/sticker.shtml

This woman was fired for having a Kerry sticker on her car that she drives to work at her private employer.

The boss who fired her...he put pro-bush materials in with their paychecks.
