BEWARE of New GOP spin on Katrina... Privatize the entire Disaster Relief System
Mon Sep 05, 2005 at 08:55:44 PM PDT
I was just watching Joe Scarborough on MSNBC. He was interviewing Mary DeKuyper, Red Cross chairwoman, and asked her a question which reeked of GOP spin... a new spin that I hadn't heard before. He asked her (paraphrased), "The crisis response to Katrina of both the Federal and Local governments has come under a lot of criticism, while the private institutions have been able to respond and provide relief more easily and effectively. Wouldn't you say that private institutions are more capable and effective in handling disaster relief?" DeKuyper gave a vague answer focusing on how well the Red Cross was able to respond, but didn't bite Joe's YES or NO question. After her response he went on to suggest that private institutions are more effective because they do not have to deal with the bureaucracy that government has to.
Is anyone else watching the TV premiere of Revelations?
Wed Apr 13, 2005 at 06:17:48 PM PDT
I just started watching the TV premiere of Revelations. Within ten minutes we have an apparition of Christ on the cross, much theophany, and a "bad little girl" who was disobedient to her father who is killed by a by a theophanous (sp?)little bolt of lightning out of the sky. Dear God! The religious right must be eating this stuff up. James Dobson probably creamed in his pants when he saw that little girl struck.... the ultimate in patriarchial corporeal punishment. Brings back all those irrational fears of God's wrath.
I think this is the sign of the end times... of the United States.
Connecticut House amends civil unions bill to define marriage
Wed Apr 13, 2005 at 05:33:04 PM PDT
So far this is the only article I can find on this breaking news today. It's from Newsday.
Sounds like bad news with some good... some progress with some back peddling. What do ya think?
HARTFORD, Conn. -- The state House of Representatives amended a bill that would recognize same-sex civil unions on Wednesday by defining marriage as being between one man and one woman.
The 80-67 vote to approve the amendment was a blow to civil union supporters who hoped the Senate version of the bill would pass the House Wednesday and move on to Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell for her signature to make Connecticut the first state to voluntarily recognize same-sex civil unions.
19 to 9 odds that Bush is more evil than Kerry
Mon Nov 08, 2004 at 12:05:50 PM PDT
19 Bush Fundraisers Fined
Nineteen people who have raised more than $100,000 for Bush are current or former executives or directors of a dozen firms fined for transactions with Iran and Iraq during the past decade, government records show.... All held their respective positions when some or all of the disputed transactions took place." USA Today article here.
To be fair I need to add that "nine top Kerry fundraisers work or worked for five of those companies." I think that this backs up claims that Kerry was the lesser of two evils.

What's the point of casting an Absentee Ballot?
Wed Nov 03, 2004 at 08:47:21 AM PDT
What's the point of casting an Absentee Ballot? ...when it won't even be counted, anyway... and the candidate you vote for concedes the election before all the votes are counted.
All the focus of the media spin has been on provisional ballots yet to be counted in Ohio. But what about the absentee ballots there, and in Florida? Reports show that there are up to 1.6 million absentee votes in Florida yet to be counted. Yet Fox and NBC call Florida for Bush. CNN and others note that 99% of districts completed reporting in Florida; again, where is the acknowledgement of the yet uncounted absentee ballots? Out of sight, out of mind?
All this sends a terrible message to absentee voters including those citizens outside of the country and others not able to cast their votes in their home districts. This sets a terrible precedent. One can't blame them now for saying, "So what's the point of casting an absentee ballot?"

Anyone have tips on putting together political ads for web viewing?
Mon Oct 11, 2004 at 08:33:40 PM PDT
Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience putting together any political ads/ web based mini-propaganda videos? If so could you share some of your experience? Any tips?
I have some ideas that I want to put to video to instruct/inform people of certain political issues/points/frames and contribute to our shared Democratic poliitcal goals.
Bush's "Major Policy" Shift: Add Laugh track

Wondering if anyone else noticed the laugh track in Bush's "Major Policy Speech" yesterday?
MSNBC ignores its own poll. Other polls supressed.
Wed Oct 06, 2004 at 10:17:51 AM PDT
This morning MSNBC offered incite into the question "Who won the debate?"
First they showed the ABC poll which shows Cheney as the winner (Cheney 43%, Edwards 35%, Tie 19%). Then they showed CBS poll which puts it in Edwards favor (Edwards 41%, Cheney 28%, Tie 31%). They concluded that finding out who won the debate depends upon who you talk to, and that it was pretty much a draw. The suggestion here is that a sampling from all polls would give results of 50% in favors of Edwards, 50% in favor of Cheney. Well let's just take a little look at several other polls, major and minor. (A random sampling.)
