The threats of terrorism, FISA, and Obama

Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 09:44:27 PM PDT

I am writing this from afar.  I am in Colombo, Sri Lanka and have been following the whole FISA thing through the calming distance of being in another country. But I am tortured about this.

Jim Webb Offers Nuanced Reading on Race

Sat May 24, 2008 at 04:10:47 PM PDT

I just read a great post over at HuffPo about Jim Webb's comments on Morning Joe about the role of white working class voters and Obama's candidacy.

(And, just a plea, Rec this up. Let's elevate the dialogue now...)

It's never "fair" when the black guy is winning

Thu May 22, 2008 at 06:15:10 AM PDT

Today over on RealClearPolitics.com, Froma Harrop advances the Clinton camp argument that caucuses aren't fair. It is unbelievable to me that not only the Clinton campaign, but members of the press, would make an argument that would never be advanced against a white candidate.

If John Edwards were here now instead of Barack Obama, would we be having such one-sided arguments about the "fairness" of the process?  Barack Obama did not invent the caucus system. Why should he be penalized now because he won caucuses when Hillary could not?

KY makes great Jelly

Wed May 21, 2008 at 06:23:36 AM PDT

In an astounding victory last night, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton won the venerable state of Kentucky in a landslide.  This surprised no one given Kentucky's history regarding feminist rights.  The motto on the Kentucky license plate is "Women first."

Ferraro "thinking about" voting for Obama (updated)

Tue May 20, 2008 at 04:25:05 PM PDT

Though Geraldine Ferraro is still not okay with Obama, she is no longer stating explicitly that she won't vote for him.

Who's really behind Black Agenda Report?

Mon May 19, 2008 at 05:42:06 AM PDT

Since it's first issue in 2006, the Black Agenda Report has posted 61 anti-Obama articles.

Number of articles dedicated to Hillary Clinton? 0.

Number of articles dedicated to John McCain? 0.

Here is a link to their sites and their stats.

Don't Panic (and something worth noting)

Sun May 18, 2008 at 06:01:19 AM PDT

There are two diaries on Kos today worrying about HRC supporters and their vocal position that they will not support BHO in the GE.

I just want to say: Let's not panic yet.

Attempting to Appreciate Hillary (Updated Title)

Fri May 16, 2008 at 06:38:01 AM PDT

I think it's time for us Obama supporters and Kossacks to let go of "silly season" and start trying to appreciate what Hillary Clinton has brought to this race and to American politics in general.

Blackness for sale? (updated X2)

Wed May 14, 2008 at 06:43:57 PM PDT

This will be a short diary.

According to this article at HuffPo, Clinton (may have) resorted to hiring a black man to stand behind her at rallies.  Unfortunately, if this is true, they've just hired the same black man more than once, so he appears behind her in rallies at different states.

This Happened in West Virginia

Tue May 13, 2008 at 08:38:55 PM PDT

Back in October, a black woman was kidnapped, tortured, raped and imprisoned for days in West Virginia.

Why Hillary Doesn't Care about the Black Voter (It's not Racism)

Mon May 12, 2008 at 06:56:02 PM PDT

I just read a very informative piece over The Root.  It shows the history of black pundits threatening that if the Democratic party doesn't take the black vote seriously, blacks won't vote Democratic.

Memo to Superdelegates: The White Male Vote Myth

Thu May 08, 2008 at 07:37:54 AM PDT

I know this has been written about here before but since Senator Clinton has gone back to asserting that because she can win more "white" voters she should garner more superdelegate support, the myth of the "white male" vote deserves yet another dressing down.

Every time the Clinton campaign pushes this narrative in the media, we need to push back.

Clinton to use "Nuclear" option to Steal Nomination

Mon May 05, 2008 at 09:52:44 AM PDT

Check out this story about Hillary Clinton's plan to push her nomination through the DNC's Rules and Bylaws committee.

(Sorry if this is a cross post, but I didn't see any other stories on it.)

This may be a stupid idea but...

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 07:21:37 PM PDT

I floated this idea to an Obama listserv I belong to a couple of months ago...I'm posting it here in the hopes that if it IS a good idea, somehow will pass it along to one of the Davids over at the Obama camp.

My idea is this: reality TV.

A headless vote

Sat Apr 26, 2008 at 10:02:51 AM PDT

If Hillary Clinton steals the nomination, voting for her would not be a clothespin vote. I'd have to figuratively cut my head off to pull lever for her.

Which of course has me thinking: what can I do if this happens, which to me would be the worst case scenario?

NC media says no to Obama smears (updated)

Fri Apr 25, 2008 at 03:10:32 PM PDT

I'm not sure if this has been written about, but I did a search and didn't see it. Forgive if it is a cross-post.

Ok, now I see the other posts. Sorry.

Just came across this article
about the North Carolina media refusing to run the GOP ads linking Wright and Obama.

Perhaps I am incredibly naive and uninformed, but this strikes me as an incredibly important event.

John Mellencamp sings for Obama

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 05:52:20 AM PDT

First Bruce Springsteen endorsed Obama. Now John "Cougar" Mellencampwill perform at an Obama rally in Indiana.

These endorsements are important--not only for the Obama campaign, but also for radically refiguring how we think about white, rural, masculine identity.
