Obama to Keep Dean at DNC

Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 09:07:46 AM PDT

Sorry for the short diary, but Ben Smith is reporting that Obama is keeping Howard Dean on as Chairman of the DNC.

What a great move by Obama, as his candidacy appears to be the natural extension of both Dean's 2004 netroots campaign, and his 50-state strategy.

IT ISN'T CALLED "QUITTING"!!!

Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 09:00:36 PM PDT

I'm sorry for a) this short diary, and b) pointing out what should be obvious.

Can we be clear on the emerging storyline from tonight?  If I hear one more pundit discuss how she isn't "quitting" I may lose my mind.

Some Thoughts on "Recount"

Sun May 25, 2008 at 08:10:40 PM PDT

I just finished watching the premiere of "Recount" -- and I just need to get out some thoughts, and hope to hear from others too.

While I felt the movie was even-handed, I'm sure that there may have been some pro-Gore biases in there, which I didn't notice since I am (obviously) pro-Gore.

Of course, seven years later, history, reality, facts and common sense are also pro Gore too...

Quitting vs. Losing

Fri May 23, 2008 at 02:53:04 PM PDT

Generally, I hate the use of sports metaphors for something as important as the election of a President.  But, if you'll allow me...

For those who aren't familiar with play match-play golf ("GOLF"!?!, I know, I'm an elitist, but I couldn't think of a good Nascar metaphor), it goes like this:  two people play a round of golf with the goal of beating your opponent on the greater number of holes.  This is as opposed to "stroke-play", where the goal is to have the lowest aggregate score over the entire 18-hole course.

Zell Lieberman?!?

Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 06:56:36 AM PDT

The Hill is reporting today that the dis-honorable Senator from Connecticut is leaving open the possibility of giving a keynote address at this year's Republican convention.

Of course the article also noted this gem, compliments of our wonderful chairman:

"I can tell you Sen. Reid had talked to me a few times and said he knows there will be talk if we get more than 51 Democrats next year," Lieberman told The Hartford Courant this month. "As far as he is concerned, I will retain my seniority, et cetera, no matter how many Democrats there are next year."

SNL Bias?  Obama Campaign's Great Response

Thu Mar 13, 2008 at 10:10:37 AM PDT

Here is a little quickie that I caught online...

There is an article in today's LA Times about whether SNL is exhibiting pro-Clinton bias.

The Obama campaign's (via Bill Burton) response to whether there is a bias is just pitch perfect:

"Frankly, Barack Obama knows he's good enough, smart enough and, gosh darn it, he's won more states, more votes and more delegates, and that's what probably matters more anyway," he quipped, à la Stuart Smalley.

Let's all remember to donate and make March as successful as February!

UPDATED - to note that the quote is from Bill Burton, not Obama himself.

My Open Letter to Superdelegates

Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 11:12:42 AM PDT

As a new member of the community, I have been mulling over this diary (in various forms) in my head as I waited the one week waiting period.

Let me start with the basics:  I am an Obama supporter.  I was never in love with the Clintons, but I continue to be surprised by how increasingly repulsive I find their behavior.  While I see Kos's point that this extended primary season is good for building a Democratic infrastructure, I am getting more and more concerned that the ugliness between the two candidates will poison the eventual nominee.  Because of this, I just want it to be over -- I check various websites regularly throughout the day hoping beyond hope to see breaking news of an Al Gore and/or John Edwards endorsement of Obama which results in the snowball effect of super-delegates.

Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that this is likely to go all the way to Denver.  In light of this, please bear with me as I make my argument to the super-delegates...
