What is Patriotism? (with poll)
Sun Apr 13, 2008 at 11:25:21 AM PDT
Yesterday, I was looking for a quote that I remembered as coming from Mark Twain:
"Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it" Mark Twain
Strangely enough, this quote is not listed on twainquotes.com
I did find some other quotes, listed below the fold, but my search for this quote and the things I found got me thinking:
What is Patriotism?
What would you ask Petraeus? Rep. Wexler (rec this)
Sat Apr 05, 2008 at 10:06:53 AM PDT
This diary was posted yesterday, as well as today, by Congressman Wexler.
What would you ask Gen. Petraeus?
It has just fallen off of the new diary list. This is a unique opportunity, and I hope someone will put it on the recommended diary list.
Please don't post responses here! Go to the link above and post them - I don't know how to get any responses here to Wexler.
Lieberman slams Obama on Fox.
Thu Apr 03, 2008 at 09:16:39 PM PDT
I found this on HuffPo, and I don't think it's been posted yet.
Lieberman, on Fox, executed his Zell Miller fake-left-drive right maneuver .
LIEBERMAN: Well, I think that - let me say generally that Sen. Obama doesn't come to this debate with a lot of credibility. Basically on the question of Iraq, John McCain has had the guts to stand out on his own arguing for what he thought was right. And it turned out that he was right about the surge working to improve conditions in Iraq.
If we did what Sen. Obama wanted us to do last year, Al-Qaeda in Iran would be in control of Iraq today. The whole Middle East would be in turmoil and American security and credibility would be jeopardized.

My Dad - and Dr. Wright

I wrote this diary a week ago. I've been asked to submit it again.
On Love, Hate, Dr. Wright, Dad, & Other Peoples Shoes
Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 09:48:19 PM PDT
It seems to me that the central point of Judeo-Christian thought is love. Why is there so much hate in our country?
There is hate spewed from the pulpit, the podium, the TV, the internet, and the newspaper. I am not aware of Jesus saying we should hate anything. He said "Love thy neighbor." He said "Love the children." He said "Love thy enemy." But he never said to hate.
Yet we do hate. There have been countless wars throughout history to settle the question of which religion is better. We, America, are in two such wars now. Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright might be the most hated man in America right now.
People fear what they don’t understand, and they hate what they fear.
It's Rove, Stupid! (with poll)
Sat Mar 15, 2008 at 09:41:06 AM PDT
Hillary isn’t the enemy. Nor is Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Geraldine Ferraro, or the Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright.
John McCain, Karl Rove, Ken Mehlmann, and the media are the enemy.
I am an Obama supporter. Yes, I deplore the politics of fear, or the politics of personal destruction. My blood pressure fluctuates wildly when I hear a baseless accusation, and I talk to the television as much as anyone. I want a polite debate on the issues, I want to believe that right always wins and that everyone will see the simple logic of truth over hyperbole. But I’m older now (50), and I’ve been a political junkie for a long time. I don’t believe that most of what is happening is horribly damaging for the Democratic Party, or the candidates themselves. It is interesting, and entertaining, and a prelude to what really matters. WINNING IN NOVEMBER!!!!!
