Wright After 9/11

Sun Mar 23, 2008 at 09:17:11 AM PDT

On this Easter Sunday, a reflection:
Buddha Under the Bodhi Tree

Consequentialism refers to those moral theories which hold that the consequences of a particular action form the basis for any valid moral judgment about that action. Thus, from a consequentialist standpoint, a morally right action is one that produces a good outcome, or consequence.

Bobby Kennedy in Indianapolis, April 4th, 1968

Sun Mar 16, 2008 at 07:59:10 PM PDT

This past weekend's events surrounding Senator Barack Obama and the issue of his minister's rhetoric were highly emotional for the country as well as for myself. The vehemence of Rev. Wright's text was charged, to say the least, and I'm sure highly offensive to many. And while saying that, I also believe that many people believe what he says. Whether it's rumors about 9/11 being planned or rumors about AIDs as a constructed and planned African plague, some people will believe crazy stuff no matter what the proof. These rumors are pervasive. Some religious and non-religious people also believe that gays are bad and bacon is too.

I have also noticed that while both people and press have been horrible on Clinton, Obama has had to walk a much hotter gauntlet then she has lately. She went through the wringer back in the day, and possibly misogynist and sexist overtures have clouded people's judgments now, but there are also quite compelling reasons not to fully back her for the presidential nomination, namely, her vote on the Iraq War "Authority to Use Military Force" and her vote for the Kyl-Lieberman Act.

NO YOU CAN'T -- NO SE PUEDE

Wed Feb 13, 2008 at 11:24:50 PM PDT

So, you REALLY think that you can be inspired to reach greater heights and purposes with that silly, "Yes We Can" stuff written by some guy who can't even spell his name correctly?

The Billionaires For Bush would like you to remember that while you may consider for a split second a vote for a Democrat (even one who sends tingles down Chris Matthews' legs when he speaks), you will be voting a vote for health, clean climate, rebuilding infrastructure and the return of big money for little people... you! Oh, the horror of it all!

Pshaw, my little friends! The Billionaires have banded together again (or actually, they never go away) in order to remind you that only their power and money matters! So, VOTE GOP to continue their healthy bottom line!

Billionaires are constantly at work in the dark recesses of their walk-in vaults planning new ways to ensure that their power structure remains the status quo! Watch their new video answer to "Yes We Can," answered with a rousing, NO YOU CAN'T!

Brooms and cleaning equipment to New Orleans. Happening?

Sat Sep 03, 2005 at 08:43:48 PM PDT

Hey guys, why don't we encourage blogs (et al)  to get some cleaning supplies together to send to the people in New Orleans? The ones that are living outside will want to clean up their streets, but there's no brooms, cleaning equipment, nothing. I know there might be evaucations, but might not be all, or might be more delayed. I think the people might want to do something to help themselves on the ground level. They are going to need (I would think), cleansers, brooms, brushes, buckets, and non-toxic bleach or some other NATURAL (organic) cleaning product to try and stem the flow of organism-borne diseases.

It's better than sleeping on filthy streets. At least until Halliburton can get its cleaning logistics together.

Anyway

What do you think of this idea and make improvments on it?  Is it already ready happening or what? I would think that clean up would be of prime importance at this point. I also hear that the Red Cross and other agencies aren't being let in due to Homeland Security. OY.

Billionaires For Bush Auction Social Security on eBay

Mon Mar 21, 2005 at 06:50:44 PM PDT

I love these guys. Kinda puts a lot of stuff into perspective, albeit a funny one...

America's Most Revered Institution on the Block Monday, March 21st until Monday, March 28th

Billionaires! We have fantastic news. We're bringing our auction of Social Security to eBay!

Frustrated by President Bush's failure to convince the American public to disregard their best interests in support of Wall Street, we at Billionaires For Bush have taken matters into our own hands. We're bypassing the uncooperative House and Senate and will sell the federal program on eBay to the first privately-held brokerage firm that can meet our reserve.

Why spend millions lobbying for Social Security privatization when you can bid on the Government's most popular program from the privacy of your own mansion?

Republicans for Kerry

Wed Sep 29, 2004 at 08:25:31 AM PDT

This is my first diary posting, so please, be gentle. :)

I have made a concerted effort to cultivate online relationships with the Republicans for Kerry groups out there. They are very much behind Kerry and understand that Bush is a dangerous man.
Here are two things you can do to help any Republicans for Kerry you might know. Please pass these items on:

1. The son of Dwight D. Eisenhower has endorsed John Kerry:

Another View:
Why I will vote for John Kerry for President
By JOHN EISENHOWER
Guest Commentary

http://www.theunionleader.com/articles_showa.html?article=44657

"THE Presidential election to be held this coming Nov. 2 will be one of extraordinary importance to the future of our nation. The outcome will determine whether this country will continue on the same path it has followed for the last 3½ years or whether it will return to a set of core domestic and foreign policy values that have been at the heart of what has made this country great.

Now more than ever, we voters will have to make cool judgments, unencumbered by habits of the past. Experts tell us that we tend to vote as our parents did or as we "always have." We remained loyal to party labels. We cannot afford that luxury in the election of 2004. There are times when we must break with the past, and I believe this is one of them.

As son of a Republican President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, it is automatically expected by many that I am a Republican. For 50 years, through the election of 2000, I was. With the current administration's decision to invade Iraq unilaterally, however, I changed my voter registration to independent, and barring some utterly unforeseen development, I intend to vote for the Democratic Presidential candidate, Sen. John Kerry."

2. Republicans for Kerry would like Republicans for Kerry to contact an op-ed writer for Philly.com who conducted an unofficial poll and found that many Republicans he spoke to will be voting for Kerry. If you know Republicans for Kerry, please ask them to respond. This is for REPUBLICANS FOR KERRY only, this is very important!

John Grogan | Party turncoats have their say

By John Grogan

Inquirer Columnist

"The latest results of my wildly unscientific Philly Turncoat Poll are in - and the score is Kerry 25, Bush 16.

As of late Friday, 25 registered Republicans from around the Philadelphia region had contacted me to say they are crossing party lines to vote for John Kerry. Sixteen registered Democrats weighed in to say they were backing George W. Bush.

I heard from many others as well, all with plenty to say about the candidates. But I find those crossing party lines most interesting. With Pennsylvania up for grabs, these Benedict Arnolds could well decide which candidate takes the state's 21 Electoral College votes Nov 2. Their effect also could be felt in New Jersey, where the race is tightening.

My informal head count got under way Sept. 9, when I wrote about three Chester County Republicans jumping ship to back the Democratic challenger. In the interest of balance, I turned over my Sept. 16 column to two Democrats backing the President

Republicans for Kerry asks that Republicans contact the op-ed writer for the newspaper.

Dear Republicans,

In his column today, John Grogan of the Philadelphia Inquirer highlighted a trend that we have been seeing for months: Republicans from all corners of Pennsylvania are openly declaring their support for Senator Kerry (see link below).

http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/local/9768460.htm?1c

This is a great start, but Mr. Grogan and the Philadelphia Inquirer need to know that the Republicans mentioned in the article are just a small subset of a much larger movement in Pennsylvania. And you can help.

We want to get 200 Republicans for Kerry to call or email Mr. Grogan BY THE END OF THIS WEEK. If we succeed, there is a good chance that Mr. Grogan's next article on this topic, planned for next month, will be a front page story, which would be a HUGE COUP as the race enters its final weeks.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1) In the next couple of days, write or call Mr. Grogan and tell him why you plan to vote for Senator Kerry. Mr.Grogan can be reached at
610-313-8132 or jgrogan@p...
}
2) FORWARD this email to 5 other republicans you know who are planning to vote for Senator Kerry, and encourage them to write or call Mr. Grogan as well.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the email and phone number below. I am heading up outreach to PA Republicans and will be as responsive to your questions/requests as
possible.

Finally, stay tuned for some exciting Republican for Kerry events planned for PA right up until the election, including several house
parties we are planning for late next week, and don't forget to sign up http://www.pavictory04.com for more information about upcoming events!
