I just don't get it. May be I am stupid, please help me understand this.

Last time when I fulled my car I payed $3.23/gallon today I payed $3.73, almost 50 cents increase in less than a period of 2 months. In addition, economy is heading towards recession, two on-going wars (without much success in hunting down the true "terrorist"), etc, etc, BUT...
