A Worthy Illegal Alien
Mon Apr 17, 2006 at 07:41:04 AM PDT
Although it seems to me that the Republicans have brought up the volatile topic of immigration in an attempt to distract the public from the huge stories of Iraq and Iran, we can always benefit as a nation from considering the issue. The following message came to me from Mary Moreno, a long-time community activist from San Antonio. She is not sure of the original author; may have been a student from Yale University. (Certainly not the one currently occupying the Oval Office!)
Worthy illegal aliens must cross the border only when you need them to. When your factories are low and your goods need assembling, they may cross. When your fields need hands to gather your harvest, they may cross. When your children need nannies to walk them to school, and your homes need housekeepers to keep them clean and tidy, they may cross. But worthy illegal aliens must not carry across that which you cannot use: Namely, their language, their children and their ways; only their hands and their backs must cross the line.
Ernie the Attorney-- first-hand reports and analysis
Fri Sep 02, 2005 at 07:40:02 PM PDT
I had never seen
this blog --
motto: "searching for truth & justice (in an unjust world)"-- before, but Ernie is a New Orleans attorney who's been blogging for at least two years-- that makes him a blogging elder, I believe.
He has some fascinating posts from the front lines. Here's a sample quote: "I don't know what to say. I guess I'm too stunned. Maybe I'll get angry soon, but right now I'm just trying to reorient my frame of mind. I keep looking around for the 'reboot' button."

My letter to NPR's Morning Edition
Thu Dec 23, 2004 at 09:45:29 AM PDT
Dear Morning Edition:
This morning you brought us yet another story by Barbara Bradley Hagerty, featuring hardline right-wingers talking about their "Christian world views."
Guess what? There are millions of Christians whose world views include New Testament understandings of Christ's love for the poor, the oppressed, the hungry, those in prison, etc. We are the Christians who would NEVER vote for George W. Bush, the warmonger. As a longtime NPR listener and member, I would appreciate it if you could devote some airtime to Christians who oppose war, torture, deceit, hypocrisy, and imperialism.
There is an excellent article in the Arkansas Times that articulates my feelings about the media's love affair with right-wing so-called Christians. Some of the people featured in this article might be good interview subjects.
Thank you.
Brit Hume: Maybe Bush is too smart!
Wed Oct 06, 2004 at 09:27:50 PM PDT
While browsing www.foxnews.com (yucko), I noticed this unbelievable headline at Brit Hume's Grapevine: "Did Bush lose first debate to Kerry because he was overprepared?"
Link here
"Some around him now believe that what happened was similar to what happened to Ronald Reagan in the first debate in 1984 when he lost to Walter Mondale after being heavily overprepared.
Some around Bush now think he was left far too preoccupied with staying on message and not making mistakes, and that his normal instincts failed him."
Oh, ya mean those normal instincts that render him speechless when confronted with nonpandering questions? What a tool!
Voter Registration in Travis County, Texas
Mon Oct 04, 2004 at 10:19:40 PM PDT
As one of the hundreds of deputy voter registrars in Travis County (former temporary home of GWB), I am thrilled to report that we were swamped with last-minute registrants. One woman had even driven 41 miles to find a place to register! Many young people, many minorities, many commenting that this election is so important. Can't wait to hear our totals from this big push! Thank you, Glenn Maxey!
National humiliation = justice
Mon Oct 04, 2004 at 03:26:24 PM PDT
"A.Q. Khan is out of business and he is out of the business that he loved most. And if you don't think that his national humiliation is justice for what he did, I think it is. He's nationally humiliated."
That's what Condi Rice offered in defense of Bush's false claim that the A.Q. Khan operation has been brought to justice.
So, by this token, criminal charges against Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson can now be dropped as moot.
My nutty suggestion-- Jane Fonda for Bush
Thu Sep 23, 2004 at 09:04:47 PM PDT
Okay, while listening to a story on "All Things Considered" that examined (but did not refute) the latest Swift Boat Liars ad (in which the name of Jane Fonda appears at the beginning), I came up with this little brainstorm:
Could someone talk Jane Fonda into making an ad supporting George W. Bush? Full of talking points like this: "I really respect the way he wants to bring freedom to the whole world, he's the peace president, as a Christian I appreciate his moral certitude, etc." It would have to be put out by a 527-- maybe "Repentant Celebrities for Truth" or some such.
The visuals would include lots of photos of Jane interspersed with the flight suit and other "inspirational" shots.
Whadda ya think?
Paul Lukasiak, American Hero, Exposes an American Scam Artist
Thu Aug 26, 2004 at 08:38:52 PM PDT
Paul Lukasiak has posted the newest installment of his heroic investigation and expose of Bush's "service" in the Air National Guard. It's a must-read; here's an excerpt from the introduction:
"Instead, Bush was running a scam designed to completely sever his relationship with the Air National Guard, and eliminate the last two years of his obligation to train and serve as a pilot, by joining a unit that had no training, and for which Bush was specifically ineligible."
Go read this when you have some time-- it really reveals the character of the pResident. Here's the link: http://www.glcq.com/trans.htm
