Wither Billmon?

Sat Apr 19, 2008 at 10:23:17 AM PDT

I woke up this morning jonesing for some Billmon. I don't know why, I can't explain it. I know he dropped off the blogosphere over a year ago, but I'd like to know if everything is ok...

Where is Billmon?

Sun Dec 17, 2006 at 09:11:57 AM PDT

Having just gotten used to seeing our good friend over at the Whiskey Bar posting on a more... regular basis, I have been disheartened to see an empty front page, for over a month now, since his last post Comrade Webb.

Congresswoman (R) to constitutent: "I think you're an asshole"

Thu Apr 20, 2006 at 05:15:48 AM PDT

I just got this off Huffpo and thought I'd drop it over here.
Apparently in response to a letter by one of her constituents about the testimony of Oil execs back in '05, the congresswoman sent a letter to one of her constituents thanking them for their inquiry. At the end of the letter there is a nifty little tagline... "I think you're an asshole".

The letter can be viewed here

Seymour Hersh: Bush Authorized Covert Plan to Manipulate Iraqi Elections

Wed Jul 20, 2005 at 05:27:48 AM PDT

Via DemocracyNow, in an interview with Seymor Hersh

Pulitzer prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh reports that President Bush authorized covert plans last year to support the election campaigns of Iraqi candidates and political parties with close ties to the White House. Hersh cites unidentified former military and intelligence officials who said the administration went ahead with the plan over congressional opposition.

SEYMOUR HERSH:...They took money that had not been appropriated by Congress and put it to work using retired intelligence people and other probably retired military people and others to help generate votes for Allawi. Allawi was running at, oh, 3%...in the election, he got 14% or 15%, which was much more than anybody expected.

You can read the New Yorker article here

It is scary to think just how far this administration will go to ensure it gets what it wants. Who knows what else they've manipulated...

some media questions

Tue Jul 05, 2005 at 11:17:15 PM PDT

  • when did it all go to shit?

  • what was the turning point in the media's complicity?

  • who are the architects?

  • is this all some neo-con plan, or is this really a media that has sold itself out to greed and flattery?

  • have missing girls always warranted hours/weeks/months of analysis?

in short, who is responsible for this and how can we arrange for a public beheading?

Protect your civil liberties and get thrown out of a bush rally

Tue Oct 19, 2004 at 04:17:48 AM PDT

Apparently three Oregonian teachers were thrown out of a Bush rally for wearing t-shirts with "Protect our civil liberties" written on them:

"The women were ticketed to the event, admitted into the event, and were then approached by event officials before the president's speech. They were asked to leave and to turn over their tickets - two of the three tickets were seized, but the third was saved when one of the teachers put it underneath an article of clothing.

"The U.S. Constitution was not available on site for comment, but expressed in a written statement support for "the freedom of speech" and "of the press" among other civil liberties," a Democratic news release said."
