U.S. military tribunals at Guantanamo ruled unconstitutional

Tue Feb 01, 2005 at 04:48:23 AM PDT

"Although this nation must take strong action under the leadership of the commander-in-chief to protect itself against enormous and unprecedented threats, that necessity does not negate the existence of the most basic fundamental rights for which the people of this country have fought and died for well over 200 years," wrote Judge Joyce Hens Green.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I didn't notice a recent diary about it....

Dubya: The Movie

Sat Nov 20, 2004 at 04:27:15 AM PDT

This is probably the funniest Dubya spoof I've ever seen.

One-line diaries are prohibited on Daily Kos. Give your diary a bit more thought, then give it another shot. If you have nothing to add to your proposed diary, then it probably belongs as a comment under another appropriate thread.

The minumum is 300 characters.

Fallujah invaded

Sun Nov 07, 2004 at 04:30:03 PM PDT

Fallujah has been invaded.

U.S. forces stormed into western districts of Fallujah early Monday, seizing the main city hospital and securing two key bridges over the Euphrates river in what appeared to be the first stage of the long-expected assault on the insurgent stronghold.

May you live in interesting times.

The issues I will be voting on from now on.

Wed Nov 03, 2004 at 11:30:56 AM PDT

This election has fundamentally scared me. I honestly fear for our nation. And that has made me rethink the way that I vote.

There will be one overall issue on which I will base my vote in the future: Democracy.

There are several specific aspects of this, each of which I will get into detail about in a moment:

Election Tracker 2004

Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 02:13:45 PM PDT

Got this link from Atrios...

Media Matters is going to keep track of which news outlet called which state when.  They have a nice little table of the states vs. the news organizations, and will be keeping totals of projected electoral votes.  Seems like it will be a nice, concise way to follow along with the evening's events.

You can find it here.

Fun in Freeperville

Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 01:43:02 PM PDT

Check out this thread in Freeperville....

The gist of it is that exit polls are unreliable.  I have little opinion on that - don't know much about it, honestly - but it's funny how the Freepers are reacting to this claim:

"PLEASE, PLEASE pull any threads with any exit poll crap."

"Rush is right about exit polling and I don't want it posted either."

"RUSH just stated it on his show too. Exit polls are not accurate. People lie and the demographics are haywire. Just keep praying and leave it up to the Lord."

That's right, Freepers.  Jesus gonna come save us from the evil liberal exit polls.

Who Will George Herbert Walker Bush vote for?

Fri Oct 29, 2004 at 05:48:53 PM PDT

Of course, he's publicly stumping for his son.  But I honestly wonder what will happen when he's behind the curtain in the voting booth, and no one besides himself will ever know which lever he pulls?

Put yourself in his shoes:

You're a very intelligent man.

You know better than anyone how much of a complete doofus your son is.

And you know that your son's policies have been disastrous - if not for the nation (from your point of view), at least for traditional conservatism (as opposed to neocon insanity), which you hold dear.  Not to mention to your family's good name.

You don't have to pull that George W. Bush lever.  No one will ever know you didn't.  What do you do?

Nag: Keep "Mosh" on MTV's playlist from now till Election Day

Wed Oct 27, 2004 at 09:29:17 AM PDT

Just a little reminder: Let's keep Eminem's "Mosh" on MTV's playlist every day, from now till Election Day.

Vote for it here for TRL, and here for DFX.

Some of the lyrics don't seem all that on target, but some are; more importantly, though, the imagery of the video itself is simply stunning.

This video undoubtedly will cause some kids to vote - and not for Bush - if they just see it. So let's all remember to vote for it on these MTV sites, every day, until Election Day.

Which Drug for Which Debate?

Wed Oct 13, 2004 at 07:49:00 PM PDT

The first debate, Bush was confused and depressed.  Barbituates?

The second debate, he was aggressive and energetic.  Cocaine?

The third debate, he was calm and mildly euphoric.  Marijuana?
