I never ate babies! I never will! Except maybe babies made of gelatin. Who could resist the scruptious power of gummy babies? Not I!

Principle of Charity

Last night, we saw a great deal of discussion about how we need to open our arms to Clinton supporters, to admit that she fought a strong campaign, and to bring the party together.  Today, I've come to the conclusion that really only a handful want to come together or move on to fighting the general election fight.

George Also-ran

Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 08:23:35 AM PDT

Webb's done an incredibly smart job of putting himself on the top in the recount game --- i.e., calling himself the winner.  Now to the next step, namely, calling out Allen as the loser.

Here's mine:  One of the things the other side did effectively in during the 2000 recount debaucle was to show up at every Gore effort with signs mocking his recount demand --- remember "Sore Loserman"?  This time I think we feed it back to them.  Someone needs to produce a series of "George Also-ran" signs that mock Allen's recount pretentions.  They need to look like Allen's placards (same as the "Sore Loserman" signs), except for the change in the name and for some notation on the bottom along the lines of "Loser: United States Senate 2006."

Thoughts?  Other suggestions on how to get people referring Allen as a loser?

Doing DeLay Dirty

Thu Nov 18, 2004 at 09:03:32 PM PDT

There, that's a sexy enough title, I hope.  Really, this is a plug for a diary by Kagro X down the list that is the best thing I've read in a while, enough so that I'm willing to sacrifice a diary to push it up in rank.  It outlines parliamentary maneuvers to stink up Tom Delay's leadership, and I think it's well worth passing about.  So, here's the link:

What the hell is going on?

I posted this in the comments over at Kevin Drum's site, but I thought that maybe I should put it as a diary here.

A Proposal for a Greater America

Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 01:04:22 PM PDT

What should we be doing as an opposition party with the aim of recapturing the House in 2006 and the Presidency in 2008?  Much of what we've been doing lately is cartography of the 2004 election.  But that isn't going to help us much when 2006 and 2008 roll around, just like a 19th century map won't help us navigate the 21st century U.S.  Instead, we need to start making the landscape, to the extent possible, by laying down the roads and tracks along which political discourse will travel in the following years.  Below the fold is my suggestion on how to do that, by offering a new version of the "Contract with America"  --- I call it "A Proposal for a Greater America" --- to the public over the coming years.

New ad. . .

Tue Oct 26, 2004 at 12:05:06 PM PDT

There's a new ad out of Kerry-Edwards today, entitled "Obligation."  It hammers on Iraq incompetence, no surprise, and it slams Bush on the missing explosives.  But, I think, the ballsiest part of the ad is that it is Kerry speaking.  It is him criticizing Bush and most interestingly, there is no break between the ad and the pro forma endorsement of the message.  That is, Kerry wants the listener to know that it is him who is criticizing Bush, face on.  That's good.

Excitement and anxiety

Tue Oct 26, 2004 at 11:01:30 AM PDT

I think the principal teller of who is going to turn out on election day has to do with excitement and anxiety over voting on that day.  By this, I mean two things, both excitement over voting itself, and excitment over the outcome.  And on both counts, we're going to win.
