I took a good look at the Democratic Governors Association today after thinking about how most recent presidents were either governors or vice-presidents. And, I am intrigued by Oregon Gov.Ted Kulongoski. I do not remember seeing him on television which is the real test of whether he would be even remotely viable. But after learning a bit about him I want to know more.
People talk about "Taxachusetts" and act like the Commonwealth is some sort of loopy frou-frou elitist cell somehow separate from the rest of America.
I drove down to MA last night for dinner. And as I drove to Cambridge through Saugus, Malden, Medford and Somerville I got increasingly furious.
I am still relatively new here so am wondering if this was what dKos was like during the primaries. Were disgruntled Deaniacs "troll rating" people because they supported candidates other than "Ho Ho?" Were Kerry supporters antagonizing the Deaniacs, telling them to try eating a bigger bunch of "sour grapes?"
Get a grip folks.
We lost together, as a party. You lost, I lost, Kerry lost and "Ho Ho" lost. We lost despite managing to muster the most energy and the best organization the Left has had 70 years. We tried really hard and we got it handed to us.
I am writing from Maine and I am volunteering in the Portland Kerry-Edwards Headquarters.
We have a caller from the 2nd Congressional District who is willing to change his vote from Bush to Kerry if we can provide him with sources that shows that Kerry has the support of more FOUR STAR GENERALS than Bush.
Bill Clinton made this statement this morning and this person promises to change his vote if we can provide him with the sources.
Kossacks, can you help me swing this voter to our side?
Joe Lockhart just used the "Furious George" meme on This Week!
I will add links to the transcripts when they are available.
The diary that had the web address for downloading "Going up River" is down.
Dou you know what it is?
Can you help me point out how this is another example of Bush Co's distrubing disconection from reality? Do you know of any articles or websites that would help?
I am a bit shakey on my recent Latin American history but I know that things were really nasty down there in the 70s and 80s. As far as I know, the Reagan and Bush administrations took the side of Right Wing Death Squads.
Yet, those strains of hate run very, very deep in the American WASP psyche.
But it seems that even the Rethugs are afraid of the backlash that would result if these themes were deployed.
Alternatively, they have deployed axiomatic memes that function at the level of the unconscious.
During the Q&A time from a girl 12-14 years asked Edwards what the campaigns position was on the draft. Edwards answered emphatically, "There will be no draft in a Kerry Edwards administration." He went on to lay out the campaign's plan to boost the size of the active duty military.
O'Neill has been driven to wage a 30+ year war to destroy John Kerry.
People say that O'Neill's drive to destroy Kerry comes from his repressed guilt over the atrocities he committed in Viet Nam.
This is not Dukakis 2004.
They are doing a true rope-a-dope.
I heard Al Franken interviewing Obama yesterday. Franken was asking him questions about the Republican convention. These were real grapefruit sized, softball questions. They could have easily into turned into attacks on Bush. But, Obama would not swing at them.
When asked about Bush's acceptance speech Obama actually complimented Bush on it. He said that although the first 50 minutes of Bushes speech were pretty lame, the last 15 minutes were actually moving.
I have seen Obama for years in Chicago. He is an excellent politician, especially at the grassroots level. And, he is nobody's fool. He knows how to attack hard when necessary. If he is holding back, it is for a reason and part of a larger strategy.
I think that the point is to let Bush lumber about throwing all kinds of nasty chimp poop. Over time, this poop will stick to Bush and make Kerry look aggrieved. Then, Kerry can hit back so it counts without driving up his negatives.
The point of counter-attacks is not to get revenge but to win.
Kerry cannot beat Bush by being hideously nasty. The "Bush Family" is the best there is at negative campaiging. And, he fundamental rule of military tactics is to fight on grounds of your own choosing.
It takes real balls to absorb the kind of abuse that Kerry has and continue to hold his fire until he knows that it will draw blood. But, this is what Kerry is doing; it's his MO and why he is considered a great "closer."
We need to inform ourselves about Kerry's past tactics and not wring our hands. We have been looking for knock out punches and revenge hits since the RNC. I have been plenty guilty of this during the last week. I am going to stop. All of you should too.
