Tell Nancy She Has Gone Too Far
Fri Jun 20, 2008 at 02:53:15 PM PDT
Hoyer led this charge and Pelosi did not for a reason. The reason is that progressives have somewhere to go when it comes to telling Pelosi that she was not sent to DC to be invited to the right parties. She was not sent to DC to become one of the Village.
I encourage each of you to make a contribution today, just today, and send it to Cindy Sheehan. As you may recall Sheehan decided to run because Pelosi would not impeach the chimp, or even more mysteriously, Darth Vadar.
I thought after my contribution that I might have added 4 cent in memory of the 4th Amendment.
Pelosi has gone too far this time, supporting and enabling an attack on the Constitution itself.

Mc Crypt Keeper and the Rule of Law
Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 08:41:46 PM PDT
What will the election be about? If Klein and the NY Times lead the way it will be about Hillary's cleavage or Obama's minister. But the RNC suing the DNC to prevent the DNC from using Mc-Crypt-Keeper's words against him show that this election is about nothing less than the rule of law.
Breaking: FCC Inquiry on Comcast re Net Neutrality
Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 11:43:51 AM PDT
There are three possible mechanisms of control which can be used to silence progressive voices: economics, community standards, and ownership. All three of these are a part of net neutrality.
The choice by the FCC to probe Comcast is critical, important and worth of praise. The following describes how net neutrality can be sold, and the triple threat faced by community and people-powered media. Net Neutrality is a central long term issue for Daily Kos.
First, the breaking news:
FCC OPENS NET NEUTRALITY PROBE OF COMCAST
[SOURCE: Multichannel News, AUTHOR: Ted Hearn]
Comcast Corp., the nation's leading provider of residential high-speed Internet access, has received official word that it is being investigated by the Federal Communications Commission in connection with its network management practices, two sources said Monday. .... "consumers are entitled to run applications and use services of their choice, subject to the needs of law enforcement."
Dodd Killed Immunity
Fri Jan 11, 2008 at 11:34:20 AM PDT
Dodd is out of the Presidential race. But I hope that DKos is better than the MSM. Dodd has effectively killed immunity according to this article.
If the Wall St Journal sez its lost, it is lost.
[SOURCE: Wall Street Journal, AUTHOR: Editorial staff]
[Commentary] Senator Chris Dodd's Presidential campaign died with a whimper in Iowa. But he still seems to be dictating national security policy to fellow Democrats on Capitol Hill, and unless the Bush Administration is willing to fight, perhaps to the next President too. We're told that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is saying privately he now won't attempt to update the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) on the wiretapping of al Qaeda suspects. Instead, he'll merely support another 18-month extension of the six-month-old Protect America Act.
When you enemies have given up, you have won!
Reid =? Lieberman
Tue Dec 18, 2007 at 09:13:36 AM PDT
At some point it became clear that it was better to take the risk of having a R in the seat over having Lieberman in the Senate selling out the Democrats. Lieberman was doing more to help the right than the progressives. He was doing more to help himself than anyone else.
Have we reached that point with Reid? Here is a Senate "leader" who has honored Lieberman's seniority. Here is a "leader" who honors the most egregious holds from the most extreme right wing Senators in the opposition, and ignores Dodd's honorable Constitutional hold.
Reid has long been a Lieberman supporter. Remember this? Reid was a big support of the least Democratic of Dem Senators: http://www.time.com/...
"Lieberman, of course, also has powerful backers. Reid, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have all spoken or written letters encouraging Democrats to back him."
I offer three reasons for citizens of Nevada to put up a real Dem against Harry Reid in
forced miscarriage
Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 08:43:15 AM PDT
How is it that so many people are opposed to "abortion"? And even more people are opposed to "partial birth abortion"? It is hard to determine this, given that these tend to be impossible to define.
It is not just "Partial Birth Abortion" (which is in fact a late-term D&C). It's not the facts ma'am. After all, if asked if women should be forced to risk their lives to carry dead or certain-to-die-painful-deaths or braindead pregnancies to term, who would be for that?
Does an IUD cuase "abortions"? Yes, because they prevent the zygote from connecting and implanting in the wall of the uterus.
It has been incredibly difficult for the forces of life - that is, people opposed to seeing woman stacked up like so much cordwood on the sanctity of the zygote- to move the debate forward. ("In Nigeria, complications of abortion account for 72 percent of all deaths in young women under age 19; moreover, half (50 percent) of all maternal deaths result from illegal abortion among Nigerian adolescents. http://www.advocatesforyouth.org/...
In the UK, abortion is called "forced miscarriage". That is better for the three reasons below.
Brigham Young Students: "Cheney is a morally dubious man"
Wed Apr 11, 2007 at 05:16:27 PM PDT
Utah is the reddest of red states. The lack of consistency in the red state morality is often brought forward, of course, blue states have their own flaws.
The students at Brigham Young are overwhelming republican. They are primarily Mormon, and they are disgusted with Cheney as a person and a christian.
In the two weeks since the university announced that Mr. Cheney would be the speaker at the commencement on April 26, hundreds of students have attended respectful and quiet campus demonstrations about his presence, and some 3,600 students and alumni had signed petitions by Tuesday afternoon seeking a "more appropriate" replacement speaker.

Bush Policies Bring Down Italian Gov't
Thu Feb 22, 2007 at 08:21:20 AM PDT
On the issue of expanding military bases and supporting the war in Afghanistan, the Italian Parliment voted 148-136-24 (for-against-abstain) against the current government. The PM tried to pacify the right by expanding bases and staying in Afghanistan. The PM tried to pacify the left by stating that Italian policy would be aligned with the EU and not the US.
The Prime Minister resigned today but is likely to be re-appointed to avoid elections.
Recall that this government withdrew Italian forces from Iraq upon being elected last year.
Pointers to news coverage and exceprts follow below. Basically Bush policies of war and torture have brought down another government. Some days I think he is the most hazardous person on the planet.
Support the ONLY REAL Dem Nominee
Wed Feb 07, 2007 at 06:54:38 AM PDT
The rest of a nominees are not true Dems. Only the candidate I support will win.
This is the meme I have been reading in diaries BEFORE THE FIRST CAUCUS.
There are four values to "thou shalt not speak ill of another Democrat" and we need all four of those to get through this primary.
- Not bashing another candidate requires building a positive agenda for change. And the potential for real change, on the ground, is why we are all truly in this together.
Obama Chills Out Fox
Wed Jan 31, 2007 at 06:27:23 AM PDT
While I am not an Obama fan (I am an Edwards supporter) I can recognize excellence when I see it.
And this is it: Obama refuses to speak to Fox news. According to the report,
"I'm still in the freezer," one Fox journalist said, noting that the people at Fox "suffering the most did nothing wrong."
I hope the thought of an "innocent Fox reporter" did not make you snort your coffee.

Bush's Victory: Watch for it
Wed Dec 20, 2006 at 09:48:00 AM PDT
I now understand what is victory in Iraq. I understand why the far right never cared about the chaos, and continues to deny the reality on the ground.
We are fighting the wrong war with them. I have been thinking about the wrong kind of victory. The long war is with fascism at home, not democracy in Iraq.
He will get the victory of not being the president in charge when the last helicorpter leaves, like this:
http://www.mishalov.com/...
He will get the facist victory in 20 years when the economy is collapsing from oil shocks. The next Bush generation can claim "we were stabbed in the back by the liberals". (Jews will come in for special blame, as if this were not some ultra-christian regime.)
A Step Forward in Darfur
Tue Nov 21, 2006 at 08:31:14 AM PDT
I posted this previously, but clearly failed to connect. I know that the dead children in Iraq are more directly our responsibility as Americans than the ones in the Sudan.
Sudan is part of the blood-for-oil global scandal.
Yesterday, Nov 21, there was an "in principle" agreement about the UN moving into the Sudan.
http://allafrica.com/...
That is hope. Just hope.
There is genocide happening now. If we raised 10% of what we raised to change the regime here, we can begin to end it

Ford Backs Lieberman???
Wed Oct 18, 2006 at 03:22:18 PM PDT
I support Joe Lieberman . . . and I've made that clear from the very beginning," Ford told Nashville talk radio host, Steve Gill.
Ford made this announcement when he stopped by the WLAC Nashville studio to talk with Gill about his own campaign for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.
WHO convinced these guys that gutting your own party supporters like so many fish is a good thing? Give them an ax and they attack the very stump on which they are standing.
Lamont has GOT to pull this off.
Industry response to ABC
Wed Sep 13, 2006 at 11:30:01 AM PDT
SURVEYING the smoking ruin that is ABC's reputation after the "The Path to 9/11" debacle, it's hard to know whether you're looking at the consequence of unadulterated folly or of a calculated strategy that turned out to be too clever by half
http://www.latimes.com/...
Is the lead to the Chronicle of Hollywood - the LA Times - story on Disney/ ABC. They also notice that the DEMS GREW A SPINE!!!!
The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest ... ," the lawmakers wrote. "We urge you, after full consideration of the facts, to uphold your responsibilities as a respected member of American society and as a beneficiary of the free use of the public airwaves to cancel this factually inaccurate and deeply misguided program
KEEP THOSE LICENSE COMPLAINTS COMING! WE NEED THEM!
Disney Aim: Kill the Blogs
Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 11:40:16 AM PDT
Why is Disney providing four hours of right wing agitprop weeks before an election?
I described before the three promises of the Bush Administration:
1. no content constraints
2. no ownership contraints and
3. strong new "owernship" rights of everything broadcast.
(more here http://www2.boomantribune.com/... )
Now comes an analysis of why this is important directly to the blogs:
An online culture built around user-generated content on Web sites like YouTube and MySpace would be imperiled by a new treaty, public interest groups and some technology companies said Tuesday.
Walmart Calls Democrats "Hezbocrats"
Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 09:08:01 AM PDT
This is truly insane.
But, yesterday, Herman Cain, one of the steering committee members of Wal-Mart's front group and a well-known right-wing commentator, completely crossed the line in a column he wrote by describing Democrats who are standing up, on behalf of working families, and asking Wal-Mart to be a responsible corporation as "Hezbocrats."
This is a continued line in the right wing attack on American Democracy. Call the opposition party such hateful names that people associate the party that is named with the hate, rather than the haters themselves.
Osama Bin Laden can suck my insouciance
Tue Aug 15, 2006 at 07:17:45 PM PDT
This is the dairy that summarizes why Bush & Cronies Inc. are terrible for national security::
I am absolutely buffaloed by the people who insist I man up and take it in the teeth for the great Clash of Civilizations -- "Come ON, people, this is the EPIC LAST WAR!! You just don't have the stones to face that fact head-on!" -- who at the whiff of an actual terror plot will, with no apparent sense of irony, transform and run around shrieking, eyes rolling and Hello Kitty panties flashing like Japanese schoolgirls who have just realized that the call is coming from inside the house!
Cusper Boomer or X?
Thu Aug 10, 2006 at 03:09:01 PM PDT
MyDD points out that the Millennials carried Lamont over Lieberman, here:
http://www.mydd.com/...
I will ask the same question here, but with a different point. Because this question leads to the possibility that in fact the change in the electorate is part of what is making being partisan so effective.
Looking at the study of generations, here is the important point:
The Internet Generation or the Millennial Generation (born 1982-2???) according to the Strauss-Howe model this should be an outer-driven, "civic," morally complacent generation which will institutionalize many of the ideals of the previous generations.
