Venezuela's Chavez creates Caribbean energy pact

looks like Hugo is trying to wrestle a little of the US's power away from it...

Venezuela wants to share its energy potential with South  America and the Caribbean," Chavez said earlier as he outlined  the Petrocaribe initiative, which will create a regional oil  shipment, storage and refining network promoted by Venezuela.

Health Ministry blasted over decision to allow fetus sex selection

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/578274.html

The Israeli health ministry has decided to allow parents to select the sex of their children..

"The Health Ministry decision created for the first time an official opening for using technology to select a baby's sex for nonmedical reasons. Such use of technology, Shoham said, "is banned in many countries in the world, including Germany," and is considered immoral in others.

ABC to Run Focus on the Family Ads, Rejected Ads from National Council of Churches Last Year

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/5/2/24343/06904

as diaried by Xamxam 1

During the season finale of ABC's schlocky reality show, "Supernanny," James Dobson's Focus on the Family will be running ads promoting its "Focus on Your Child" program, which advises parents on how to implement the parenting principles outlined in his best-seller, "Dare to Discipline." These include spanking with "sufficient magnitude to cause the child to cry genuinely." Children have to be taught respect for authority at an early age, Dobson preaches, or they'll never develop respect for governmental authority or God.

Stephens said that she was blamed when one of her former players, now in college, revealed she was a lesbian. That player's parents insisted that the superintendent, Jerry Hendrick, fire Stephens because she had "converted their daughter," Stephens said. Hendrick and all but one of the six school board members did not return phone messages seeking comment on the controversy

arté and no sleep

Wed Feb 16, 2005 at 01:03:07 AM PDT

so last night i managed to catch a smallish part of a program on a channel here called Arté.. It concerned the US war in Iraq and as it is Europe based and thusly "free" media...  it was clearly anti-war. While no new revelations concerning the war were given (aside from a few off the cuff remarks from Rumsfeld which irritated "i am trying to work my way around to how i am NOT going to answer that question"  then he gives his best evil villain laugh.... bwaahahahaha),

Bush truly has vision...

During the run up to the election one of the items separating the Dems from Repugs was stem cell research.
In a new report, the wonderfully limited cell lines our brainless leader claimed were ready and all that was needed for research in this country have been found to be contaminated, making them in essence unusable in patient studies...

I have a little tale to tell as an american living in France.  A french friend, who recently finished his Ph.D. was reapplying for his visa to go to the US for a post doc (he IS thankfully planning on doing it in a blue state). He had already recieved his visa once but suddenly three months ago it was revoked with no reason given..

why do the hate us so???

Mon Dec 06, 2004 at 09:48:11 AM PDT

hmmm
it AINT because we unleashed baywaytch and britney spears on them, though that wouldnt be a bad reason

let me make a wild guess

http://edition.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/12/06/oxfam.aid.ap/index.html

so while the "first world" is fat and getting fatter, while in the US corporate execs making 600 fold what the average employee makes, and pro atheletes, actors, musicians make more in a year than most of us and our families and our families families make in a lifetime (and bitch about it) while the rich get richer and the poor get the picture our leaders scratch their heads and pretend to be unaware as to why they might have ANY hatred towards our caring giving nations

Oxfam singled out the United States for criticism, saying it gives just 0.14 percent of its national income in aid, making it the least generous donor by that measurement.

These clowns dont feed and clothe the poor.. they could care less for the downtrodden, hell Robertson fully takes advantage of them...
I am sure we can find and dispense equally troubling (or worse) information about Falwell, Robertson and the other idiots out doing the devils work under the guise of doing gods...
Isnt it just a matter of getting the dirt out into mainstream minds so there is less and less trust in every word they say??   Isnt that all the other side does, sow the seeds of doubt, water daily and watch them grow.

and so it begins

U.S. Suspects Iran Is Making New Missiles

WASHINGTON (AP) - Interception of several technology shipments to Iran has bolstered U.S. suspicions that Iran is secretly developing an intercontinental ballistic missile that could threaten Europe and possibly the United States.

Bush has the cojones to stand up and say this?????

President Bush on Thursday called  for a "full and open" accounting of the U.N. oil-for-food  program but would not say whether he thought U.N.  Secretary-General Kofi Annan should resign.

"I look forward to the full disclosure of the facts, get an  honest appraisal of that which went on. And it's important for  the integrity of the organization to have a full and open  disclosure of all that took place with the oil-for-food  program," Bush said.
