Retired Columbians Hired to Work in Iraq

Tue Dec 14, 2004 at 07:05:40 AM PDT

I wonder if they have ties to the Contras or the drug cartels. Maybe someone with more resources can look into it. Looks like their could be a story there.
BOGOTA, 14 December 2004 -- A US company has recruited 25 retired Colombian police and army officers to provide security for oil infrastructure in Iraq, according to the newspaper El Tiempo.

The officers met in northern Bogota on Dec. 2 with a Colombian colonel, who, on behalf of "Halliburton Latin America," offered them monthly salaries of $7,000 to provide security for oil workers and infrastructure in several Iraqi cities, according to one of the men, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"On Friday, 16 Colombians will leave for Iraq with one-year contracts, renewable for six months," the source said. "In addition to the salary of $7,000, vacations in Europe every three months and life insurance were offered," he said.

A Message Of Hope

Fri Nov 26, 2004 at 08:43:04 AM PDT

Through out history humans have experienced troubled times more often than not fueled by religious zealots determined to undermine the rights and freedoms of others in the cause of a particular faith. Europe went through this during the dark ages. But what evolved from the dark ages was a Renaissance, a spiritual and intellectual awakening that furthered the ideals of humanism. I believe the United State is going down a dark path and there are dark times ahead of us. I believe though, I hope that I am wrong within the next 4 years, there will be another terrorist attack, I suspect we will be invading Iran and a draft will be instituted, and we are in for some very difficult economic times.

Powell Boy Who Cried Wolf

Thu Nov 18, 2004 at 08:37:06 AM PDT

"I have seen some information that would suggest that they have been actively working on delivery systems. . . . You don't have a weapon until you put it in something that can deliver a weapon," Powell told reporters traveling with him to Chile for an Asia-Pacific economic summit. "I'm not talking about uranium or fissile material or the warhead; I'm talking about what one does with a warhead."

Winter is Coming

Thu Nov 04, 2004 at 05:03:11 PM PDT

My favorite fantasy author George RR Martin Writes:
I am pretty good with words, usually, but no words can express how miserable, angry, and depressed I am feeling this morning over the results of yesterday's election. The exit polling makes it clear: this was a victory for bigotry and fear, a mandate bought with lies. I know from past experience that it is going to take me some time to shake off this depression.

Winners and Losers Post Election Fall-Out

1. Evil Genius Karl Rove, Bush's Brain and Campaign Adviser. Excellent work Mr. Rove you managed to single handedly wipe out the Democrats and fuck Americans in the ass while they bend over and ask for another. GNN Exclusive: Bush Wanted To Invade Iraq If Elected in 2000

Sun Oct 31, 2004 at 09:25:18 AM PDT

This is a very interesting article I found. I'm curious as to why or how GNN, is reporting it though, and not the mainstream press.

GNN Exclusive

"He was thinking about invading Iraq in 1999," said author and journalist Mickey Herskowitz. "It was on his mind. He said to me: 'One of the keys to being seen as a great leader is to be seen as a commander-in-chief.' And he said, 'My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it.' He said, 'If I have a chance to invade, if I had that much capital, I'm not going to waste it. I'm going to get everything passed that I want to get passed and I'm going to have a successful presidency."

Herskowitz said that Bush expressed frustration at a lifetime as an underachiever in the shadow of an accomplished father. In aggressive military action, he saw the opportunity to emerge from his father's shadow. The moment, Herskowitz said, came in the wake of the September 11 attacks. "Suddenly, he's at 91 percent in the polls, and he'd barely crawled out of the bunker."

Cronkite Inclined to Believe Rove Behind Bin Laden Tape

Sat Oct 30, 2004 at 08:28:11 AM PDT

Last Night on Larry King Live Walter Cronkite had this to say about the Bin Laden video tape.

Larry King Live Transcript

CRONKITE: What we just heard. So now the question is basically right now, how will this affect the election? And I have a feeling that it could tilt the election a bit. In fact, I'm a little inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing. The advantage to the Republican side is to get rid of, as a principal subject of the campaigns right now, get rid of the whole problem of the al Qaqaa explosive dump. Right now, that, the last couple of days, has, I think, upset the Republican campaign.

Bush-Cheney Get a Little Bit of Help from Organized Crime

Above Wiseguy Rosatti in an FBI surveillance photo

Mafia members and convicted felons John Staluppi and John Rosatti both donated $2000 simoleans to the Bush Cheney campaign last year. The mafia Bush supporters are part of the Colombo crime family that engaged in a mob war in the early 90's that left more than dozen goodfella's sleeping with the fishes.

You Have the Power

Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 07:34:37 AM PDT

I just finished reading Howard Dean's book "You Have the Power." I wasn't a Dean support during the primaries but his book inspired me a great deal and I highly recommend it. I'm also in the process of reading Joe Trippi's book, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised."

Booth books talk about organizing through the internet and empowering individuals to change government. I think what we saw last night with Sinclair, is proof that we really do "Have the Power".

I've never felt more optimistic about democracy than I do now. Regardless of the outcome of this election I hope we continue our effort to move this country forward in a progressive direction and organize to counter attempts that will move America backwards.

We've Got Battling Green Eye Shades

Sat Oct 09, 2004 at 10:38:53 AM PDT

In last night's debate George W. Bush was in rare form. He came across pissed off and at times down right incoherent. In contrast John Kerry was focused and spoke clearly. I can't see how any half way intelligent person, not see this stark contrast between the two presidential candidates. In one instance George W. Bush yelled over the moderator to get his point in. It shows a very clear depiction of W's childish indignant stubbornness. At several points in the debate Bush comments made little sense.
"I hear there's rumors on the Internets that we're going to have a draft."
Just how many internets are there Mr. President? You would think that the president of the United State of America would have a basic understanding of how the internet works.

When asked about getting prescription drugs cheaper in Canada George W replied,
"I haven't yet. Just want to make sure they're safe. When a drug comes in from Canada, I want to make sure it cures you and doesn't kill you."
We all know the body bags are piling up in Canada because of unsafe prescription drugs. Mr. President get a clue!

A question was directed to the president about the environment.
"We proposed and passed a healthy forest bill which was essential to working with -- particularly in Western states -- to make sure that our forests were protected. What happens in those forests, because of lousy federal policy, is they grow to be -- they are not -- they're not harvested. They're not taken care of. And as a result, they're like tinderboxes. And over the last summers I've flown over there. And so, this is a reasonable policy to protect old stands of trees and at the same time make sure our forests aren't vulnerable to the forest fires that have destroyed acres after acres in the West. We've got a good, common-sense policy."
What the crap are you talking about Mr. President? Stop talking gibberish and start making sense about your policies.
"Now, I'm going to tell you what I really think is going to happen over time is technology is going to change the way we live for the good for the environment. That's why I proposed a hydrogen automobile -- hydrogen-generated automobile."
If these statements are any reflection of Bush's environmental policy then our environment is in serious trouble.

In another off the wall comment about George W. Bush regarding stem cell research,
"I had to make the decision to destroy more life, so we continue to destroy life -- I made the decision to balance science and ethics."
I'm still trying to figure that one out.

When questioned about the selection of a supreme court judge the president went on to describe the Dred Scott case, an example that he used to describe judges using personal bias to interpret the law.
"That's a personal opinion. That's not what the Constitution says. The Constitution of the United States says we're all -- you know, it doesn't say that. It doesn't speak to the equality of America."
Mr. President you need to go back to school and take a refresher on Constitutional law and the Bill of Rights. You would think a Yale graduate would have a better education.

One of his more bizarre statements, the president went on to criticizes Kerry's fiscal policies claiming,
"We've got battling green eye shades."

In W's bizarro world his words must mean something but I don't think I want to go there. As Americans we deserve more substance from the president of the United State and less jibber jabber.

George W. Bush Incoherent Answer to the Most Important Debate Question

Sat Oct 02, 2004 at 12:39:58 PM PDT

On September 30, 2004 the during the 1st debate for the 2004 election, the moderator posed a very important question to George W. Bush “Has the war in Iraq been worth the cost of American lives, 1,052 as of today?” George W. Bush’s answer:

You know, every life is precious. Every life matters. You know, my hardest -- the hardest part of the job is to know that I committed the troops in harm's way and then do the best I can to provide comfort for the loved ones who lost a son or a daughter or a husband or wife.

You know, I think about Missy Johnson. She's a fantastic lady I met in Charlotte, North Carolina. She and her son Bryan, they came to see me. Her husband PJ got killed. He'd been in Afghanistan, went to Iraq.

You know, it's hard work to try to love her as best as I can, knowing full well that the decision I made caused her loved one to be in harm's way.

I told her after we prayed and teared up and laughed some that I thought her husband's sacrifice was noble and worthy. Because I understand the stakes of this war on terror. I understand that we must find Al Qaida wherever they hide.

We must deal with threats before they fully materialize. And Saddam Hussein was a threat, and that we must spread liberty because in the long run, the way to defeat hatred and tyranny and oppression is to spread freedom.

Missy understood that. That's what she told me her husband understood. So you say, "Was it worth it?" Every life is precious. That's what distinguishes us from the enemy. Everybody matters. But I think it's worth it, Jim.

I think it's worth it, because I think -- I know in the long term a free Iraq, a free Afghanistan, will set such a powerful in a part of the world that's desperate for freedom. It will help change the world; that we can look back and say we did our duty.

How the Bushs Gave Hitler a Helping Hand

Wed Sep 29, 2004 at 05:49:45 PM PDT

In the mid 1920's George Herbert Walker (W's great grandfather) gave his son-inlaw Prescott Bush (W's Grandfather) a job with his investment firm Brown Brothers Harriman.  The first job he gave Prescott was to manage the New York -based Union Banking Corporation (UBC).  Prescott became one of the founding members as well as a shareholder of the bank.

The UBC was set up by Walker and Harriman, his partner, to provide a US banking base for the Thyssens, Germany's powerful industrialist family.  However, in 1926 Fritz Thyssen inherited the family business and after being inspired by a Hitler speech became a member of the Nazi Party.  In the 1930's UBC and Brown Brothers Harriman had bought and shipped millions of dollars in steel, coal, and fuel to Nazi Germany, financing Hitler's War.

It's important to note until 1941 it was perfectly legal to do business with Nazi Germany, since the US remained neutral until after Pearl Harbor. In 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy act UBC and other Brown Brothers Harriman assets were seized.  The investigation revealed that the UBC was actually owned by the Bank voor Handel en Scheepvaart N. V of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. However, regardless of weather the act of financing and helping Nazi Germany was  illegal, one has to questions the moral ethics of Prescott Bush.

One thing is clear in this story, the Bush family has and still benefits from war.  George Herbert Bush, has significant investments in the Carlyle Group which has major holdings in the defense industry. He was a member of  the board, until 2003, who brought in big money  investors like the Saudi Royals and the Bin Laden family. Both the Bush's and Saudi's have benefited from this relationship very similar to the way the Thyssens and Prescott benefited from the Bush Nazi relationship.
