Rove Fired for Leak in '92
Sat Jul 02, 2005 at 08:11:17 PM PDT
Just a quick entry as I haven't seen this covered. Rove was fired from the Bush-Quayle campaign for leaking to Novak.
"Karl Rove was fired from the 1992 re-election campaign of Bush Sr. for allegedly leaking a negative story about Bush loyalist/fundraiser Robert Mosbacher to Novak. Novak's piece described a meeting organized by then-Senator Phil Gramm at which Mosbacher was relieved of his duties as state campaign manager because "the president's re-election effort in Texas has been a bust." Rove was fired after Mosbacher fingered him as Novak's source." Story here:

Rove and Novak still deny it but nevertheless, seems pretty relevant.
Action for Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Fri Mar 11, 2005 at 03:15:18 PM PDT
Sorry to be cutting and pasting, and sorry if this has been diaried already... I haven't seen it. As you know, the pirates in Congress are again going to try to rape and pillage the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge--yo ho ho and a barrel of oil! I received this e-mail, please make the calls. (and btw please refer to it as the wildlife refuge and not ANWAR which, someone said, sounds like an industrial development zone).
I called into a right-wing radio show
Sun Jan 02, 2005 at 06:51:12 PM PDT
Shortly after the tsunami hit there I was listening, for some reason, to this horrible show that was on in Western Mass. (I don't know the name or station). At this point the U.S. aid amount was $35 million with a vague promise that this was just the beginning. He asked listeners to call and say whether it was the U.S. government's duty to help.
First of all I urge everyone to call into these things. It's fun and free.
Great news for triple amputees!

For every dead troop, nine have been injured, meaning there are over 10,000 people out there who will never be the same again. Not to mention psychological trauma. 11,000 casualties since March, 2002--we seem to be heading for a lost generation. But the bright side is that more of the wounded troops are surviving, according to this Yahoo story.

The New England Journal of Medicine (content.nejm.org) has published a fascinating story of the MASH operation in Iraq, along with gory pictures. They're certainly the first that have come out showing the costs of the war to US troops.
NYC Halloween Parade
Sun Oct 31, 2004 at 11:14:37 PM PDT
I just got back from the Halloween Parade and it was like a cross between Halloween and the United for Peace & Justice march that took place during the GOP convention. Tons of Kerrybilia, Kerry truck, Billionaires for Bush, Rev. Billy et al. Many Bushes. Someone dressed as a flu virus asking where the vaccine was. My friend was Bush-as-Satan and we (3 of us) were priests exorcising him back to Crawford with a bell, book (Bible of course), & candle. He got lots of jeers as he poked at the crowd with his pitchfork and frightened little children. (I was thinking, how sad that little children are frightened of their President!) There was even a group pretending to be pro-Bush protesters--I thought they were for real at first. A splendid night with great energy and the cops/security were not out in full force. I think people will be dressing like Bush for many Halloweens to come. Hope Halloweens everywhere were like this one!

Anti-Bush site Whitehouse.org has excerpts from the Second Lady's book "Sisters"--It's some brand of reactionary feminism, or some other oxymoron: or it's cribbed from the "Romance Writer's Handbook"; or she has mixed up her Cliff's Notes on D.H. Lawrence with her Monarch Notes on Sappho, put them into a blender, and added garbage. This is the kind of book the male evangelicals hide inside their Bibles under the covers. I hope it gets optioned for a movie.

Tucker Carlson Supresses the Vote!
Fri Oct 15, 2004 at 08:43:23 PM PDT
Seems that Tucker isn't too civic-minded. At the end of his show he told the audience "If you don't support either candidate (I guess he doesn't count the third parties or write-ins)," then it's fine to stay home on Election Day. "There's no shame in not voting."
In other words, dear viewers, if you don't like Bush and the way things have been going, just sit passively by.
