Wed Sep 27, 2006 at 12:16:41 PM PDT

ESPN has denied davefromqueens' accusation that the network piped in pre-recorded cheers ("fake cheers" is the term he used) for Bush 41 in order to supress a "chorus of boos" coming from the crowd.

ESPN's official response is being reported by Raw Story here:

NASA FAKED ROCKET NOISE FOR SHUTTLE LAUCH

Tue Sep 26, 2006 at 02:57:09 PM PDT

As a person who dabbled in fuse-lighting on the 4th of July, I operated under the impression that my job was rocket-launching not politics. Rocket launching was rocket launching and you leave your politics off the air. It's a very simple standard. If I want to watch things blast off for three hours, give me things blasting off. Unfortunately, NASA has continuously violated this concept. If NASA is going to play phony tapes for space shuttle launches, they need to be pressured off the air.

For several years, NASA has been manufacturing fake rocket sounds for space shuttles. It's a very simple rule. If you are a space shuttle named after a vessel piloted by a liberal not named Joe Lieberman, NASA will play a tape of a leaf blower previously recorded and insert it into the audio during the shuttle launch. If you are a shuttle named after a conservative explorer's vessel, NASA will play a bass-heavy, multi-tracked tape of powerful rocket sounds culled together from past launches.

John Kerry's Prophetic Quote

Sat Oct 16, 2004 at 08:48:03 PM PDT

This is my first diary entry and, to christen the moment, I thought I'd simply put a John Kerry quote from 1971 that I feel is as deadly accurate today as it was back then:

""This is not the struggle of one day or one month or one year or of one war. It's a struggle and an effort and a sacrifice and a contribution which we make for the rest of our lives. Though men of small mind and less character may project themselves on to their fellow citizens and suggest that an America that admits its mistakes will turn into a craven, hollow place, we will continue this struggle because this country is bigger than they are and it is bigger than any of us here."

--John Kerry on Saturday, April 24, 1971, to a crowd of over 500,000 war protestors.

Let's do this man proud and get out the vote.
