Returning The Kitchen Sink

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 04:05:38 PM PDT

So we learned yesterday that going negative works in certain states.

Over the past 2 weeks, the Clinton campaign went extremely negative on Barack Obama, almost completely abandoning reasons why people should vote for Hillary Clinton, but rather going after the "Anti-Obama" vote.

Well, I think it's time for the Obama Campaign to return that kitchen sink to Hillary Clinton.

Is Bush Trying To Throw The Election?

Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 01:18:13 PM PDT

I first started wondering this a couple of weeks back when during an interview with a reporter, Bush mentioned his plans to bring Social Security privatization back to the forefront next year.

Then all of the sudden, the most unpopular president since Richard Nixon holds two press conferences in as many weeks, when he infamously known for not having very many of them.

So I started wondering, is Bush trying to throw this election to the Dems? Here's what I came up with.

Kos Makes The Evil Liberal Cut

Wed Aug 09, 2006 at 08:20:55 PM PDT

Congrats to Kos for making the RNC's "Defeat-o-crats" video. This is too damn funny.

The email from the RNC, included the following.

In politics, there are turning points that can define a political party for decades to come. Yesterday's defeat of Senator Joe Lieberman in the Democrat primary in Connecticut is such a moment. Because he stood for a strong national defense and victory in Iraq, Joe Lieberman was successfully targeted for defeat.

For a political party to reject a respected Senator who just six years ago was its candidate for Vice President is virtually without precedent. It speaks volumes about the new Democrat Party: if you stand for a strong defense and victory in the War on Terror, you have no place in the party and you must be purged.

The Butcher Of The Balkans

Sat Mar 11, 2006 at 04:55:18 PM PDT

Normally I would have been upset at receiving a phone call at 10am on a Saturday morning, (my sleep in day,) but the annoyance of the call was soon forgotten, once the perpetrator of the call spoke;

"LJ, sorry for calling so early, but I figured you wouldn't mind it. Slobodon Milosevic is dead."

I was immediately overcome with mixed emotions.

I had worked as an Albanian/English linguist with the US Army and Marines in Kosova, from the first day the NATO bombing campaign ended in June of 1999, for just over 6 months.

America: The Going Out Of Business Sale

Sat Feb 25, 2006 at 11:28:30 PM PDT

This past week, we've seen an uproar over a UAE Company, Dubai Ports World, buying out P&O, a British company, which owns parts of as many as 23 ports in the US.

There have been questions brought up as to why the Bush Crime Family is allowing our ports be bought by a Kingdom which partook in the financing of Al Qaida and the attacks on this country on September 11, 2001.

The Math Was There On The Filibuster

Mon Jan 30, 2006 at 03:10:15 PM PDT

53 Republicans voted for cloture. They were joined by 19 spineless Democrats. In total, the final tally was 72-25.

That means 3 senators abstained from voting.

If we could have peeled just 1 of the 7 Dems away from that Gang of 14, and all other dems would have voted no on cloture, this thing would be filibustered.

That would have allowed 6 dems to still vote for cloture, so they can have their cover in those red states. Instead, the 19 rats jumped ship.

Detroit Mayoral Election: Hendrix Wants A Recount

I just ran across this over at the local ABC affiliates website. I posted on another story here from the Detroit News commenting on irregularities in this Mayor's election in Detroit. Here's the story.

Mayoral candidate Freman Hendrix challenged the results of this month's Detroit mayoral election Tuesday evening. He asked that ballots be recounted by hand.

"It is a provision within the law that any candidate that seeks an office may request a recount," Hendrix told 7 Action News Tuesday.

Hendrix lost to Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick by about 14,500 votes in the November 8 General Election. Those results were certified by the Wayne County Board of Canvassers Tuesday.

Tell Rep Schmidt and Bubp To Resign

Fri Nov 18, 2005 at 08:03:53 PM PDT

Jean Schmidt and Danny Bubp: National Disgraces

Please take the time to write Rep. Jean Schmidt (r) and Ohio District 88 State Representative Danny Bubp (r) to apologize and RESIGN. We don't need smear merchants like this in the congress, and Ohioans don't need these troop bashers representing them.

Schmidt's remarks in congress:

"...A few minutes ago I received a call from Col Danny Bubp, Ohio representative from the 88th District in the House of Representatives. He asked me to send Congress a message, "Stay the course." He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, "That cowards cut and run; Marines never do." Danny and the rest of America, and the world want the assurance from this body that we will..."

Updated: Thom Hartmann Shellacks Dick Morris (With Audio Link)

Fri Nov 04, 2005 at 04:57:19 PM PDT

Let me just start off by saying, this is one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time. This interview occurred yesterday on the Thom Hartmann Program; his nationally syndicated one, from 12-3 pm EST. I download his show from White Rose Society, (which is a great site that makes available progressive programming online,) I was just listening to yesterday's show, so that's why I'm behind. Anyway.

What I Got For Fitzmas

Fri Oct 28, 2005 at 09:07:15 PM PDT

In my home, on the wall of my finished basement, hanged a hand sketched rendering of Ronald Reagan with a 10-gallon hat and a cowboy-looking denim button shirt. My father was a Reagan Democrat and an immigrant. The first election he was able to legally vote in was 1984, which he voted for Reagan, as did just about everyone else in the country.

I am the eldest offspring of my parents. My father loved American politics and loved watching World News Tonight With Peter Jennings and 20/20. We were an ABC family. Being the oldest and having just one TV in my home, caused me to follow a lot more news than the average 8-10 year old would.

Today, I was at work while the Patrick Fitzgerald press conference was being broadcast. Due to the metal roof at work, the only major network that can be viewed clearly is ABC. Once again, it was ABC bringing me my news.

The Times, They Are A Changin'

Sun Oct 23, 2005 at 12:48:55 AM PDT

Stop reading this for a minute and take a second to just notice what's going on around you.

Just Stop!

Take a deep breath and close your eyes for a few seconds. Think about what your life is. Think about what your country has become. Just think about it. Realize that this year, this month, this week, today, right now, the country and the world is changing like it rarely ever does.

We are experiencing history. The days we are living now and about to live in the coming weeks and months will studied, discussed and taught for generations to come. This is one of history's greatest moments. This is the beginning of a new beginning.

Please click "there's more" for the rest of this diary. Thank You!

Dean Vs. Gore (Fantasy Poll)

Thu Oct 20, 2005 at 10:35:09 AM PDT

While we all wait for these potential indictments to come down, let's use some of this higher traffic to get a sense of the site.

Yesterday, I put up what I called a "Nightmare" poll which left us with John Kerry and Hillary Clinton in the Dem primary. Here are the results.

John Kerry 49%

Hillary Clinton 32%

Would Not Vote 18%

Nearly 1 in 5 say they would abstain from voting for Democrats.

But today's poll pits Progressive Folk Hero's Al Gore and Howard Dean.

Kerry Vs. Clinton (Poll)

Wed Oct 19, 2005 at 09:11:23 AM PDT

Last week, Ted Kennedy announced that he would suport John Kerry again in 2008, if he were to run, even if Hillary Clinton ran.

This scenario scares me shitless, but all the while, is not totally unlikely.

So my question for this community is, if the primary included just John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, who would you support?

T'was The Night Before...

Sun Oct 16, 2005 at 09:51:22 PM PDT

I'm well aware this diary probably doesn't deserve to be a diary, but it's almost 1 am here in Michigan, and I doubt I'm taking up any major real estate right now.

Anyway, I have parodied "T'was the night before Christas" with a Bush White House edition.

It's below the fold, I hope you enjoy. And even better, I'm sure you can do better, so have at it in this diary.

Bush Awaits Dems Filibuster?

Tue Oct 04, 2005 at 11:59:00 PM PDT

[Cross posted originally at LJ's Blogorific]

Well, as many predicted as early as last November, the Republican party has split into two groups. There's the "invade-your-bedroom, flat-earther, religious-American-Taliban, fundie-right-wingers," and then there is the "Corporatist-Fascist, tax-dodging, poor-folk-hating, we-hate-the-new-deal, conservatives."

And it all begin early Monday morning, October 3, 2005, with the announcement of Bush lawyer and loyalist, Harriet Miers.
