MS reminder why we need a Dem President

Fri Jan 25, 2008 at 08:43:18 AM PDT

With the divisiveness that originated here on Daily Kos and has spread to the rest of the campaign, this news article reminds us why we need to stick together in November.

Did Law & Order back up O'Reilly?

Sat May 05, 2007 at 10:29:02 AM PDT

I don't know how many people watch NBC's hit Law & Order, but it regularly 'rips from the headlines' and usually I like it for it's 'follow the clues' mystery solving, but Friday's episode bothered me greatly.  Because it seems to have defended Bill O'Reilly's asinine ideas.

2006 is over. Looking into the Future

Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 02:14:44 PM PDT

I posted this back in September, and was told to shelve it until after the election by more than one poster.

OK, its after the election,  We did it.  We won the House, and the Senate.

I think we'll probably win the Presidency in 2008 if we campaign smart.  What do we do about preventing the last time we were swept into power by Republican scandal and incompetence?

Peak Oil: Price Drop Proves It.

Sun Sep 17, 2006 at 09:22:28 AM PDT

There has been a lot of media lately about how the drop in oil prices means the crisis is over.

Even Jerome a Paris posted a diary over the controversy.

In truth the sharp drop in price is a perfect example of peak oil.  Come with me below the fold.

Thinking beyond 2006

Its looking like we might FINALLY win one this year, 2006.

But what next?  We've been here before, remember?

Is *Presidency* ITSELF the problem?

Wed Feb 15, 2006 at 04:46:25 PM PDT

This question came up in a class on Democracy and its problems around the world.

In every democratic country where a powerful executive branch has been established, that president has eventually subsumed almost total power, with one exception, that being the US.  But we questioned if that was true of the US.

It's time to start thinking about the Post-Roe world.

Wed Feb 01, 2006 at 10:45:01 PM PDT

With the confirmation on Alito, I think the court concensus on Roe has altered.  As such, I suspect Roe won't survive the Bush/Cheney Presidency. We should start preparing for the worst.

It had been 5-4 before the death of Rehnquist and retirement of O'Connor.  It should therefore be 5-4 against at this point. (I know Ginsburg, Souter, Breyer and I think Kennedy are pro-Roe, and Scalia, Roberts, Thomas, and Alito are against.  I am not sure where Stevens is.
