All of us here remember the basic tagline of the Dean campaign: You Have the Power!!! I remember Governor Dean screaming that into crowds in 2003 and 2004, when all the pundits said he was crazy and that was no way to win an election. Well, we'll see about that.
I can't say I was exactly shocked by Senator Joe Lieberman's ("D")-CT) announcment yesterday that he was going to petition his way onto the November ballot if he loses the August 8 Primary to Ned Lamont, which is looking more and more likely, especially now when he pisses off more loyal Democrats. This self- serving move won't just hurt Democrats in CT, but will hurt the Democratic Party and the Nation.
I'm a 17 year old high school senior in New Milford, CT, and today, I became a registered Democrat. One of the social studies teachers brings in the registrar of voters every spring, to make it easy for students to register. As they swore me in as a voter, I felt a great sense of pride and honor, knowing that this is what the nation was founded on, and I will strive to keep that dream alive. I saw hundreds of my fellow students wearing "I registered to Vote Today" stickers in the hallways, and I know, that if we choose to make our voices heard through the ballot box, we will be a force to reckon with.
Hi, if you don't know me, I'm a 17 year old middle class high school senior from CT who's going to college in the fall. Like many in this generation, I am being confronted with skyrocketing tuition costs.
The MSM keeps going on and on about how Hillary Clinton has a lock on the Democratic Nomination and has the base shored up, waiting for her coronation at the convention. Since we here are considered to be the liberal base, we should show them that she does not have our support, and that this will be a large fight for our support.
Today, The Danbury News Times, a local paper in western CT, has the story about the possible primary challenge against Joe Lieberman here in CT. Greenwich millionaire Ned Lamont is going to announce whether he is running or not in February. I hope he does run, and I think that he could pose quite a challenge to Senator Lieberman if he did. He can finance his own campaign, in addition to the money he will get from frustrated Democrats not just in CT, but around the country.
As your typical American teenager, I am an avid user of myspace.com and facebook.com, connecting with both current and past friends. I think that these sites are forcing big changes in the way in which we communicate.
An earlier post had a poll for the best living Democrat. Although I agreed with some of the choices, I thought that it limited some very popular choices, notably current DNC Chair and former VT Governor Howard Dean. Someone suggested making a new poll, and I didn't see any others on the list, so I created this. I hope you enjoy.
By the way, I know that this poll doesn't include everyone, so I included an "Other" option. Thank you
Here is my college application essay that I just finished minutes ago. This is a rough copy, it has not been revised or edited by anyone. The task was to write a cover story for a newsweekly for January 1, 2025. It had to be under 500 words. I hope you enjoy.
Does anyone remember the interview that Matt Lauer had with Bush last year, when Bush said "I don't think we can win it [the war]". I think that we and the Congressional Democrats should be showing and talking about that every day. That, and the Top Gun Mission Accomplished tape (that's golden), plus the quotes from him and Congressional Republicans criticizing Clinton during Bosnia and Kosovo, you know, successful conflicts. What do you all think?
Hi, for you who don't know me, I'm Max Friedman. I'm a student in New Milford, CT. I am a proud Democrat, and share the party's position on Israel. I consider myself a Zionist, but believe that there must be a two- state solution to the crisis. Israel must have the right (as all nations do to protect itself), but must respect the rights of innocent Palestinians.
I was just watching the "Strategy Session" on CNN's Inside Politics with Bob Novak and James Carville. Novak got very angry, said that something was "bullshit", and walked off the set. Carville and the host are continuing the segment, without a hitch. Novak is now sitting in the Green room, crying to himself. It is now noted that the host was asking about Plamegate.
[Update] tvnewser has the story
This morning, in what must have been a state of delusion, I found myself watching the truly horrible "Fox and Friends Weekend". They were standing outside of their midtown Manhattan studios handing out t- shirts for Mike Gallagher's book about liberals being idiots or something (oh, and by the way, sometimes Gallagher guest hosts for them). Gallagher was talking about his book tour and how he was being alledgedly harassed by liberals.
I, as many here probably were, was glued to the TV yesterday watching the coverage of the London bombings. I think that they did a good job yesterday, keeping the attacks in perspective and being pretty careful with developing news.
Today's retirement by Sandra Day O'Connor will unleash a new level of partisan fighting in the US Senate. Drudge is reporting that Bush will not announce a nominee until after he returns from the G8 Summit in Europe on July 8. Right now, I am watching Democrats Chris Dodd and Ted Kennedy discussing the upcoming confirmation process. The level of the fighting of course depends upon who President Bush picks to succeed O'Connor. If it is a staunch conservative, then they will meet huge opposition by the Democrats, and possibly not get through. Democrats will filibuster someone if the "extraordinary circumstances" situation applies.
It is pure craziness. Today, she goes after conflict- resolution education in the public schools, because she sees it as a part of the vast, left wing conspiracy. Apparently, New York teachers are conspiring with the terrorists to make children sensitive and tolerant, and we just can't have that now, can we, that tolerance.
I don't know how many of you saw Dean on "Hardball", but I think he did a great job. Dem Bloggers has the video of it up now. Anyway, does anybody think that he should consider running in 2008 or that a Draft Dean movement should possibly be started?
