SINCLAIR update: Did we HELP them?

Thu Nov 11, 2004 at 02:29:03 PM PDT

What follows after the fold is a recent article on Sinclair Broadcasting that appeared in the subscription-only Entertainment Industry trade magazine, VARIETY.

I hope all of you who participated in the boycott take a look at this - results like this are going to always be possible when you are using boycotts as a means of pressuring the business sector.

I have posted the entire article since you cannot read it without a subscription.

Progressive Movie Goers: Read This!

Fri Oct 29, 2004 at 03:39:35 PM PDT

At long last, William Karel's documentary THE WORLD ACCORDING TO BUSH is getting an Elections-Eve theatrical release here in the US starting this weekend.

I cannot recommend it enough, though it may send shivers down your spine.

From the distributor's web site:

Silver Lake Film Festival is proud to distribute at select screenings nationwide the Winner of the Best Picture award at the 2004 Silver Lake Film Festival.

This searing political documentary features interviews with liberal and conservative luminaries including Richard Perle, Norman Mailer, Hans Blix and Colin Powell, artfully woven together to provide a powerful insider's look into the first 1,000 days of the Bush administration.

Daily Variety lauded that the film deserved no less than "a special award for Most Damning Straightforward Documentary Concerning the Guy in the White House."

Tell your friends. Bring an Undecided!

A list of cities showing the movie this weekend, and the entire Variety review, below the fold.

CA: GOTV phonebanking story

Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 08:53:53 AM PDT

This weekend, here at home in Los Angeles, I've been doing GOTV phone banking for KE04, calls aimed at registered Dems in Las Vegas.  It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it and gives you a yummy feeling in the pit of your tummy.  A spiritual petit four, if you will.

There is a phonebanking office set up in Koreatown, it's open 7 days a week.  (Call 310-556-9172 x111 if you want to volunteer)

Lots more below the fold - take the poll!

Former FCC Chairman comments on Sinclair

Sat Oct 16, 2004 at 12:02:27 AM PDT

Apparently he wrote a letter to Josh Marshall as an open response to the recent statement by current FCC chair Michael Powell:

Dear Josh:

As a former FCC chair, I read with interest -- and disappointment -- the following:

"Don't look to us to block the airing of a program," Michael Powell told reporters. "I don't know of any precedent in which the commission could do that."

Eighteen senators, all Democrats, wrote to Powell this week and asked him to investigate Sinclair Broadcast Group's plan to run the program, "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," two weeks before the Nov. 2 election."

Most of the rest of his letter is below.

AMAZING Brit anime RE global neocon agenda

Thu Oct 14, 2004 at 11:01:22 AM PDT

I know we are all agog about the third debate and Sinclair and national voter fraud sponsored by the RNC.  All are major news this week.  But, I've got another "Big Picture" issue for today's diaries: If you would like to see a short-and-sweet, to-the-point illustration of the impression the American Neocon agenda and The New American Century is making on progressive Brits, look no further than this stunning short film by Knife Party.

While we're on this topic, I also hope you've all read the incredible piece by Naomi Klein for Harper's Magazine, "Bagdad Year Zero," on how the Neocon agenda to create an idealized free market in Iraq has been an abject failure.  It goes a long way to explain why there has been little actual reconstruction in Iraq over the past 18 months since the occupation began.

This would be a great place for Kossacks to post other links to resources in this area.  The New American Century is very, very scary and we should all be eternally vigilant.
