Republican Governor does good

Sat Feb 03, 2007 at 12:00:26 PM PDT

Texas Governer Rick "Goodhair" Perry, viewed generally as a lightweight twit just made up for a lot of the bad things he's done.  On Friday he did what no Democratic governor has yet done and made the HPV vaccine mandatory for girls in Texas schools.

Why bother with warrants?

Wed Dec 21, 2005 at 05:55:01 AM PDT

At this point we have the basic facts in the Bush wiretapping issue.  The FISA courts will not only issue warrants, they will issue retroactive warrants up to 72 hours after an agent has listened in on a conversation.  The President did choose to authorize warrantless wiretaps out of any need to protect America, our agencies can protect America just fine by obeying the law and getting warrants.  The logical question is why did our only President choose, not just once but over a dozen times, to violate the 4th Amendment and allow warrantless searches of American citizens?

This Labor Day remember Haymarket Square

Mon Sep 05, 2005 at 06:53:26 AM PDT

We celebrate Labor Day not as Republicans think to "work and the prosperity it brings" but in rememberance of those who died so we could have the working conditions we take for granted.  The events at Haymarket Square in Chicago were part of the catalyst which produced Labor Day.

NARAL ads pulled, signs of Dem weakness

Fri Aug 12, 2005 at 07:05:52 AM PDT

When the Swift Boat Vets were running their ads the Republicans did not seek to undermine them by criticizing, complaining, or otherwise pointing out that the ads were a mess of pathetic lies.  The NARAL anti-Roberts ads are almost certainly no more truthful than the Swift Boat Vets, but the Democrats have demonstrated weakness by doing everything they could to force NARAL to pull them.

Make no mistake, I would much rather we had a political arena dominated by reasoned debate than one dominated by vitriol and falsehood.  But we cannot fight by the rules when the other side breaks those same rules regularly.  The only acceptable fighting response to Republican criticism of the NARAL ads is an observation that they didn't seem to be too worried about the truth when the Swift Boat Vets were lying.
