Attack the Republican brand - removing the lipstik from the elephant

Sat Jun 28, 2008 at 12:10:39 PM PDT

Sitting here and waiting for what ever the new Swift Boaters come up with has got me thinking, - what would be an easy way to counter attack? I read how the GOP is desperately trying to re-brand itself, and I think of silly images, like putting lipstick on an elephant. National polls confirm that the GOP brand is way out of touch with the American people, so why not just attack the GOP Brand?

The GOP is Bush, Cheney, Foley, Larry Craig, Ted Stevens, Jack Abramoff, the Bug Man (hammered), Irving Lewis Libby Jr, Bob Ney, Duke Cunningham, and every member of congress that supported the government of the last 7½ years.

Not ’a’ civil war in Iraq, but many civil wars

and the county is heading towards a collapse.

That is just two of the many depressing conclusions of a  briefing paper (pdf) by Gareth Stansfield from the UK foreign policy think tank Chatham House. Not anything new for anyone who reads the Dailykos or Jaun Cole, but it is nicely packaged into British English, easily digestible for any of the main stream media. What is interesting is his description of the different groupings in Iraq, and the social breakdown, Iraq’s neighbors, and the failing of the Bushies policies.

I could use this in a high school class to give a concise overview of the actors in this conflict, and analysis of the current situation.

An ID Rove would hate - a Real Voter ID

Mon May 07, 2007 at 02:43:55 PM PDT

I had been thinking about a sort of voter ID card the last couple of weeks. The idea sprang out of a thought: what would Karl Rove hate the most? The answer for me was easy  –  voter  turnout in numbers like there are in most European elections. When Sunday’s election in France had a record 85% turnout, it meant a turnout of all eligible French voters, not registered voters. Every citizen is eligible. Without being an expert, I would guess that the voter turnout in national elections in the United States is between 50 and 65% of eligible voters. I use this to explain to Europeans how a shrub can be elected as the President of the USA. 53% voted in 2000, and he got less than half, 26% of eligible voters. Think about it – 26 %! About 28% think he’s doing a good job now, more than enough to elect in 2000.

Who's going to write the Georgia l. Thompson docudrama?

Destroying the life of an innocent government employee to further the evil plan of high level Whitehouse official,
or,
Activist judges subvert justice to cover up Democratic corruption.

Where is the Hollywood liberal cabal when you need them? This will make one of the best stories to show how the personal consequences of the "loyal Bushies crusade". Either someone in Hollywood should make this film, or maybe we could have a fundraiser like the one for Marcy’s book, and get Disney and ABC to help?

Why the Dems (not you Joe) should boycott the Traditional Media.

Sat Nov 18, 2006 at 01:40:34 PM PDT

I don't know about you, but I'm getting very tired of seeing my team playing defence all the time. I liked it when the Senate was closed down to show the country what a bunch of do-nothings the Republicans were on security, and I'd like to see the same thing done to the "operatives" that deliver the so called impartial news. Where have the journalists gone?

What I propose is an 8-day boycott. Why 8 days? Two Sundays in a row should get the message across, and any longer would be overdoing it. While we're at it, maybe we could put Faux News on probation, and force it to use just their Republican bias. They should be addressed as "The Official Media Organ of Republicans", at least until they prove themselves otherwise.

So come on team, let's play some offence. How about the Big Dog doing a YouTube that explains what a disservice the traditional media is for all Americans? It's about time the Democrats once and for all eradicate the myth of the liberal traditional media, or the fair and balanced media, as if that could ever exist.
