Roger Waters Endorses Obama
Tue Apr 29, 2008 at 01:12:07 AM PDT
At Coachella in California last night, Roger Waters replayed many of Pink Floyd's best songs, including all of Dark Side of the Moon.
It was amazing. We have wondered here whether or not the visionary Waters supported Obama, especially after the Jed Report so masterfully used Waters' "Another Brick In The Wall" for one of his masterful Hillary Clinton critiques.
Tonight we may have our answer.
Revisiting Riverbend - Voices from Baghdad: The War and an Iraqi Perspective
Sun Apr 27, 2008 at 05:49:09 PM PDT
The blog, especially the anonymous blog, is a powerful tool against information control and oppression in the 21st century. It allows anyone with access to the Internet to forgo the hyper-controlled media channels of a war zone and find an outlet for their stories. This is especially important when a people are marginalized and demonized in order to have a less controversial war effort, as the various forces with war interests turn the Iraqi people into an ‘uncivilized’ abstraction from the complex and modern united society that existed before the US invasion. The blog selections below represent a small part of the untold story of Iraq. Many of you are familiar with Riverbend, but it is time to revisit her again, lest we forget. As a 24-year old woman myself, writer/computer geek, I haven't really been the same since discovering her story this week. I hope that anyone who hasn't read her blog before reads it, if only to better understand the people whose lives are now very much a part of our own.
The Jena 6
Sun Sep 09, 2007 at 12:14:45 PM PDT
The lives of six young black men are being ruined by Jim Crow justice in Jena, Louisiana.
The District Attorney has refused to protect the rights of Jena's Black population and has turned the police and courts into instruments of intimidation and oppression.
The full story after the jump. I've posted the account, written by Bill Quigley. If after reading the below, you would like to help, please sign this petition:

Religion Preventing Peace - Buying into Republican Spin
Fri Sep 08, 2006 at 06:03:22 PM PDT
The diary with the exposure of the YWAM contributions to this atrocious 9/11 film, has been an uncomfortable place to read because of the extreme negativism and, yes, hate being projected out towards Christians in general there. I just wanted to set the record straight on a few points... it started as a comment... but I feel like it belongs in its own diary. I will admit this is purely an opinion piece.
A user on that forum posted several comments that both a) conflated Christianity with the Republican Party (something I hear too often on this forum) and also, and more unusually, b) blamed all war and human suffering on Religion. I would like to respond here on both points and show, breifly, how both ideas are in part a Republican frame, and also misinformed.
The Contract Problem: House Dems Cannot Write
Tue Oct 11, 2005 at 01:39:56 PM PDT
From the front page Roll Call "New Contract" article:
"Among the proposals are: "real security" for America through stronger investments in U.S. armed forces and benchmarks for determining when to bring troops home from Iraq; affordable health insurance for all Americans; energy independence in 10 years; an economic package that includes an increase in the minimum wage and budget restrictions to end deficit spending; and universal college education through scholarships and grants as well as funding for the No Child Left Behind act."
Honestly, who does their writing? Or are they just so disempowered they really think in Republican terms?

Front Page Boycott List: Buying America Blue
Wed Nov 03, 2004 at 11:11:03 PM PDT
The BUYING AMERICA BLUE idea is a fabulous one. But I feel like we are making it too complicated. Here is my take on what would be the most simple and effective.
- We use this Kos site because we are all already united here.
- On the Front Page here we have a Boycott List.
- We start with one company, and every week we add a company to the list!
- The Company of the week also gets a letter writing campaign shoved down their throat explaining why they are being punished, and how they can get taken off the BLACK LIST! (or RED LIST).
I say one company a week so that we can be FOCUSED. If we don't keep this simple IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. Evil corporate lists already exist all over the place. A concentrated weekly boycott effort for all Democrats and Progressives does not!
This is our chance to have that! Let's do it!

Journey -- Don't Stop Believing
Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 08:12:00 PM PDT
I remember the night that Wes Clark took OK. It was a really long night, and a lot of refreshing and yelling at the computer -- but we won that state.
This was Wes Clark's campaign theme song. It was what got me through that tense time. It's not over till it's over everyone.
Keep the faith.
Be brave and deserve the sweet victory that is marching, strong, and steady towards us. Close your eyes, take a breath, and believe.
Let me host this song for easy download:

Death on the Street in San Jose
Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 12:00:13 AM PDT
I'm writing here because I know this is a good community of kind intellegent people, and I don't know what to do.
My boyfriend was walking home from work tonight, and a car hit two pedestrians crossing the street, a father and daughter.
He has lifegaurd training, and went over to them to help. The father died, very bloodily, in his arms. He witnessed death for the first time, and a sudden, tragic, pointless death... I'm overwhelmed by it. A family ruined... in a moment.
It's such a waste. Such an awful waste of a human lifetime, to end so suddenly and horribly.
We're both devestated. We're having trouble understanding it.
My boyfriend lives too far from me for me to be with him, and I'm not sure what to tell him. I think he's traumatized.
What's the best way to help him?
To explain it...
