Poli's Wednesday Cheers and Jeers Fill-in edition: Left Behind

From the GREAT STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

Good Morning Irregulars!

So, here we sit...we have been (cue the eerie music) LEFT BEHIND!  Alas, we must not be pure enough or good enough moonbats because we did not get Raptured Ruptured flown/bussed/trained/automobiled, like our friends, to the Progressive Heaven nirvana Vallhalla Netroots Nation in Austin, Texas. We will have to worship the Great Orange Satan from afar. So, put on your finest pout, draw a large "L" on your forehead, pour yourself a Rum and Coke or whatever sounds good and join me for some frolicking in the kiddie pool!

I saw this coming.....Obama's problem with clergy redux

Thu May 29, 2008 at 08:38:55 PM PDT

crossposted at Street Prophets

After the Reverend Wright controversy broke, Many people here at Big Orange rejoiced to watch this video of Father Michael Pfleger "pwn" a Fox reporter:

Although Fr. Pfleger is incredibly articulate and I agreed with him, I had one of those "icky" feelings...so I googled Fr. Pfleger.

CHEERS and JEERS: Fill-in Thursday

From the GREAT STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

Good Morning Irregulars!!!
How do you know you are a political junkie?  If you answer yes to a couple or more of these, you may be a political junkie:

  1. As a child, you named stuffed animals after Israeli Statesmen.  Yup—I had a stuffed elephant named after Abba Eban--Eban Abban (you have to admit that is really cute—hey, I was 3 years old)
  1. You begin to shake if you have not turned on cable news for a few hours
  1. You can explain the "Texas Two Step" and the Electoral College
  1. You stay up to 4 am to hear election results
  1. You yell and scream at the cable news
  1. You seek out candidate videos on You Tube
  1. You talk more about and to your on-line friends than your children or spouse.

These are a few of the indicators.  Warning: this is a dangerous condition with no known cure.

Help save CHEERS & JEERS!!! (follow up to a follow up diary)

Sun Oct 07, 2007 at 01:32:55 PM PDT

Just to keep this going--as many of you know, we are trying to raise funds to have the first ever reader supported writer here at Daily Kos--Bill in Portland Maine.  Bill is not able to look for a job and continue the arduous task of writing CHEERS & JEERS, the wildly popular, award winning series he has gifted to us for the past two years.

You can read more about this effort in the first diary posted by Kos on Friday, You can save Cheers & Jeers or in Jerome a Paris' You can save Cheers & Jeers (follow up diary) from yesterday.

Good Morning Irregulars!!!

As many of you know, I am a Professor. I love, love, love what I do, but some days are better than others.  A couple of the things that drive me CRAZY--

  1. Students who are absent from class, tell me they have been absent, then add "Did we do anything important?"--ummm nooo--we NEVER do anything important.  I just stood up in front of the class doing nothing for 50 minutes.
  1. Students who ask if they can be absent or leave class early for unacademic reasons--"Can I miss a 2 1/2 hour class to play intramural basketball?" "Is it ok for me to leave early so I can wash my hair?"  "Is it ok to miss the final because my Dad (Mom, Uncle, Dog) made my plane reservations for Cancun(Florida, some other warm destination) for our family reunion early?"  Oh by all means--and according to the Residential Life staff, you can learn anywhere--and all of college is a learning experience--so please--I beg you--go!

They Shoot Dogs Don't They? Pet Policy Needed!

Fri Sep 30, 2005 at 01:45:16 PM PDT

Update [2005-9-30 18:35:17 by PoliSigh]: Please also see txyellowdog's diary

Update [2005-9-30 17:16:2 by PoliSigh]: Cross Posted at Street Prophets

Anderson Cooper reports that 14 dogs were found shot to death in an evacuation center in Louisiana.  Animal Rescuers found the bodies of 14 dogs shot to death in a Middle School.  They died agonizing deaths--one had tried to run away, but was chained. I couldn't get the direct link, but the video is on CNN.com.

The St. Bernard Sheriff claims he is looking into this execution of pets left behind.  He says he did not order it.  People who left their dogs are hysterical--they were told they could bring them, then were ordered to evacuate the school and leave the dogs.  Heartbreaking notes line the walls--telling about these dogs and asking someone to take care of them. I won't even begin to tell you what should be done to the monsters who shot these innocent pets.

Many people stayed behind in their homes because of their pets, many may have died because they could not leave them.  I would have stayed with my pets.

SHAMEFUL Treatment of the Ill/Poor!

Mon Sep 19, 2005 at 04:17:37 AM PDT

So many people get lost in the shuffle.  I have a friend who is one of these people.  She lived an upper-middle class life until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  Her alcoholic husband could not deal with her illness.  He got abusive.  She got a divorce and a small settlement.  Her oldest son borrowed some of that money and has not repaid her.  Her youngest son was recently in an accident--they found out he only has a couple of years to live because his liver is riddled with cirrhosis at 26.

Eulogy for a Liberal Democrat

Wed Mar 16, 2005 at 01:02:05 PM PDT

Three years ago today, we lost a lifelong Liberal Democrat to a stroke at the age of 76.  He was an extaordinary man.  He is my Daddy.

Anthony Andrew was born to a blue collar family in Cleveland, OH.  Both parents were immigrants to this country.  They were not Italian, Dad just happened to be born near St. Anthony's day.  He was their 4th child. They were soon to lose their 3rd child to diptheria.  Dad was the rebel, their black sheep.  He refused to wear wool pants--he was allergic to them.  Wearing corduroys to church just wasn't done, but Dad did.  He was never one to put up with any bullshit or anything irrational.

He went to one day of Catholic Boys High School and refused to go back.  Despite my Grandmother's hysteria, he won--he graduated from a public High School, John Hay High. One day later he was drafted.

from the GREAT STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE!

Welcome to the All Dog Broadway Extravaganza Thursday edition of Cheers and Jeers!  I am your fill-in host, PoliSigh!

(cue orchestra!)

A line of hundreds of C and J's own dogs bounce their way on to the stage to the strains of "The Bunny Hop"  Suddenly, Zanzibar spots Homer on Sneaky Snu's lap.......Zanzibar bolts off stage in pursuit of Homer.  The line breaks up into pandemonium.  PoliSigh runs out to the middle of the stage and is trampled by the dogs as they try to get the pootie.

(Slap, slap)..."Poli?  Poli? Are you ok?"  Baldwiny asks if she would like a moist towelette. " Umm, no but a Rum and Coke would help--with a couple of limes please?"

Poli staggers to her feet, sniffling a little, mumbling "frickin' dogs", she squares her shoulders as she faces the audience and in the grand tradition of the theatre, the show must go on.......

Live from New Hampshire, it's CHEERS and JEERS!  starting in the extended entry section...[oooof--get this dog offa me]   RIGHT NOW [GONGGGGGGGGGG] (ooooo-nice resonance Revel)
