The desperate image: hillaryclinton.com

I am watching Andrea Mitchell in Philadelphia with the Clinton Campaign in a small theatre on MSNBC.  The stage is barren except for one lonely sign hovering overhead.

Lieberman just registered as Democrat in Stamford! - Updated

Thu Sep 13, 2007 at 11:25:45 AM PDT

I have some interesting news to post.  I'm not able to give you the source on this, but anyone with the ability to do the work should be able to confirm it.  It's public information, but it's very recent, which is why I am posting it.

Joe Lieberman and his family all just registered as Democrats in Stamford, CT.

UPDATE:

I have now had time to contact Stamford's election headquarters myself, and while Joe DID register as a Democrat in Stamford, his wife and daughter actually registered to vote, but are recorded as UNAFFILIATED.  Their registration from the previous address was "Democrat" but the two are now without party.  Odd, odd, odd.

Am I allowed to make these?  This thread is to discuss the Visible Forum debate.  The Dems take on Gay issues for the first time in a televised debate.

The debate begins at 9 PM EST and will be streamed here.

It can also be viewed on Logo television where available.

Karzai's blazer made my mom go "huh?"

Mon Aug 06, 2007 at 01:07:25 PM PDT

My mother just called me to tell me that she was watching CNN and she was very perplexed. Hamid Karzai, the Afghan President, has just put on a western style suit jacket over his traditional clothing.

I'm not sure if this fits rule #2 for "substantive diary" but I felt compelled.  I think it's substantive in that it's another odd decicison by someone somewhere in the Bush administration.

You can see the outfit on the front page of cnn.com.  He was speaking at a press conference with Bush.  It's a full body shot, so you can see just how bizarre the outfit is.  Was it truly his decision?

If not, was this some attempt to make him look "less terroristy?"  Is it an attempt to make him appear more serious in the eyes of the MSM?  I mean the absurdity of that thought would be immediately dismissed, were it not for the political theatre we are subjected to on a daily basis and the target audience for that theatre.

Karzai, incedentally, is one handsome dresser.  Usually.

My first thought was of the rent-a-jacket scenes from all of those screwball 80s comedies when the slouchy slob winds up in a fancy restaurant and has to throw a Hugo Boss dinner jacket over his Chicago Bulls jersey, etc.

This is a WTF diary, nothing more.

Safia Taleb al-Souhail revisited

Thu Aug 25, 2005 at 08:03:40 AM PDT

In February I started a thread about Safila Taleb al-Souhail titled Who was The Iraqi Woman In The Balcony, about Bush's State Of The Union address and the curious woman sitting in the seat I like to call the "Chalabi" seat of the House of Representatives.

What started as a curiosity developed into a pretty crazy story.  So much so that the diary was moved to the front page.

Kerry: Mass. Dems Gay Support a Mistake.

Fri May 06, 2005 at 07:48:23 AM PDT

Well, he's obviously running for President again, and he's obviously going to the right.  I have no earthly idea what the man is doing by making a statement like this, but I'm officially embarrased that I worked on his campaign fourteen hours a day for two months.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- U.S. Sen. John Kerry, visiting Louisiana for a forum on children's health care, criticized the Massachusetts Democratic Party for its expected approval of a statement in the party platform in support of same-sex marriage.

"I think it's a mistake," Kerry said. "I think it's the wrong thing, and I'm not sure it reflects the broad view of the Democratic Party in our state."

Kerry made the comments to The Boston Globe after hosting the event on his proposed KidsFirst Act, which would bring health care to uninsured children.

Friday Fun!

Fri Feb 25, 2005 at 11:41:54 AM PDT

I think humor is telling, and this is my joke of the day for all of us to consider.

-----

A woman in a hot air balloon high above the Virginia landscape realized that she was lost. So she lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

Randi Rhodes doing GannonGate

Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 12:21:09 PM PDT

One line diary.  Don't kill me.

Randi Rhodes is talking about Jeff Gannon whatever the hell his name is.

He asked to go on her show, she said sure, send me your resume.  He said no.  She's running down everything. Will have to wait and see if she mentions dailykos.  I think she will she's talking about the bloggers.

Who was the Iraqi Woman in the balcony? Updated info.

Thu Feb 03, 2005 at 09:43:01 AM PDT

(From the diaries -- kos. This cursory investigation demands a deeper look into Ms. Sofia Taleb Al Souhail. Held up as a shining example of why we've spent $200 billion and wasted 1,500 lives and counting, it looks upon first glance that she doesn't live in Iraq, has been affiliated with right-wing organizations, her father was killed in Lebanon while planning a coup against Saddam, and her family claims the US was complicit in his assassination.)

I am always interested in finding out who the people are that are chosen to sit with in the "good seats" at the State of The Union.

Especially after last year, when Chalabi was sitting in the seat. You often wonder who these people are.

So as I'm watching the woman hold up a shaky "peace" sign, finger stained in purple, you are wonder.  "Did they fly her in? Wow, that's some crazy symbolism."

So I decided to look around.

Question: "Only 4 dangerous provences."

Thu Jan 27, 2005 at 09:17:17 PM PDT

It is repeated constantly in the BushSpinCycle when our administration is asked:

"With all of the violence and bombing, how can we ensure safety for the Iraqi voters?"

The answer is "Most of the country is safe.  Most of the country is peaceful and people will be able to vote as comfortably as they can in the United Sates.  There is still some violence, but only in four of the provences."

Bush and The Lord.

Fri Jan 14, 2005 at 12:39:38 AM PDT

I know this topic has been discussed, and I spent the night watching Bush's defenders decry the "secular liberalists" on my TV.  But there is something that I haven't heard anyone really touch on when being critical of Bush's "Lord" statement.

Let's talk green pen lasers.

Wed Jan 12, 2005 at 10:39:32 PM PDT

I have a question.  I have very little understanding about this issue and I'm hoping someone can help me clear it up.

So the story goes like this.  There is an airplane way up in the sky.  Thousands of feet.

Someone has a little green pen laser pointer, and they are able to point it upwards at an airplane.  Flying hundreds of miles an hour.

Does every city have abortion trucks on the streets???

Wed Sep 08, 2004 at 12:25:49 PM PDT

I think in passing, I saw a diary about "Abortion Trucks" the other day.  I had no idea what they were talking about.

Walking down the street today, I figured it out.

I was in downtown Chicago today and a bloody severed hand of a fetus rolled past my face.  It was sitting in a dish, next to flesh stained surgical tools in high resolution.  The image was probably 10 feet by 7 feet.

As the truck rolled past, I realized that it was on all three sides of the truck.

In the upper right hand corner, taking up about a fifth of the photograph was the official KERRY/EDWARDS logo.  the word ABORTION was across the truck as well but I didn't look at it long enough to figure out what it said.  I kind of went into shock.

I've now seen absolutely everything.  I went to the March For Women's lives and saw the 40 foot posters with similar images along the sidewalk, but it was expected.  I was at a Pro choice march, and guessed there would be dissent.

Can someone please tell me how an activist or a political person can even BEGIN to deal with this issue?  There are trucks rolling around my city with horrible, private images emblazoned on them, and Kerry and Edwards logo right there.

I am a First Amendment advocate to the extreme, however there must be some sort of public decency law that keeps images such as these off of the public fairway.  If I put a photograph of two people having graphic sex on the side of a truck, would I get in trouble by the law?

Just wanting some information on my end, trying to see if anyone else has seen these.

Where are the terror alerts?

Tue Sep 07, 2004 at 12:30:07 AM PDT

I know that there are many amongst us who feel that the color coded terror alert system is a bunch of bullshit.  I am one of them.  I know it seems as if I'm trying to have it both ways here.  Calling our government's response to the threat of "terror" alarmist crap and then wondering when they don't keep us in a sense of panic.

But let's recap:

----Prior to the Democratic convention, people were planning to blow up media vans.

----Prior to the Democratic convention, there were three buildings in New Jersey that were being watched, for what we don't know, but God, is it scary.

----Prior to the Democratic convention, Pakistani's have rounded up the most evil of the evil, and Bush and his pals came out to let us know. (Leaking the name of an operative, angering the world's intelligence agencies, all for political game.)

Fast forward a few weeks.

----Prior to the Republican convention...

crickets chirping

Well there were the anarchists.  But they are democrats. But then again they are a threat.  We will protect the Republicans from the Anarchists...Democrats...Threat...Terroists... Democrats, Terrorists?

----Labor Day Weekend...

soft breeze blowing across a field

The only threat our Government has been telling us about this week is coming from the President, who alerted those at a rally in Missouri against voting for John Kerry, who will rely on the goverments of France and Germany to give us permission to defend ourselves. Oh, that and he want's OBGYN's to share more love with the women.

The week leading into the September 11th Anniversary?

wind chimes twinkling on a country porch.

I guess Bush is right. We're safer!

Bush: "These are big books"

Mon Sep 06, 2004 at 03:34:25 PM PDT

OK Bush is trying out a new act on his stump speech.

I just saw it on CSPAN.  He kind of fumbled through it but I found it hilarious.  Reading his script, he got to the part that says "pick up federal tax code books here."

He then lifted the two big books in the air and started complaining that there were "OVER A MILLION WORDS" in these books!

My Pet Goat they ain't, George.

He struggled to lift the books, look at the audience, and dramatically declared "we must change this tax code!"

I hate it, but he's dumbing down our country.  It's making me sick.  Yes, the tax system is a mess.  No, you can't fit it by showing off big books that those intellecutals in them big cities love.  Then he moves on to those darn trial lawyers, and how Kerry is going to expand government. "Culture of life, Marriage and family" (both of which got the loudest applause)

Lies about wars, lies about economy, stumbling in typically funny ways ("We are straying true to our beliefs")  It really does make you sick to your stomach.  "Remember they got Zarkowi an' his bunch, he beheads people." That's a direct quote. Anything that is controversial, he speed reads in a mumbling way so that you can't even hear what he is saying.

There are two Americas.  George Bush is creating them.

Clinton: Major Heart Surgery

Fri Sep 03, 2004 at 09:30:38 AM PDT

I am not trying to post a zillion diaries on one topic, but CNN has breaking news that Clinton is hospitalized for chest pains, and ABC NEWS says:

Former President Bill Clinton will undergo quadruple heart bypass surgery in New York City today, ABCNEWS has learned.

So that diary earlier was correct.

Scary stuff.

Anyone just ge the James Carville email?

Thu Sep 02, 2004 at 09:54:01 AM PDT

So I've gotten about a million Mary Beth Cahill emails over the past week about Kerry.

Then just a few minutes ago I got another "Help Kerry win" email signed by James Carville?!

So he's on board the Kerry Campaign?

In what capacity?

He's sending out emails?

Someone help me out here.

Where's Mary?

Wed Sep 01, 2004 at 10:21:17 PM PDT

Is this a proud family?  It sure looks like it doesn't it?

Except the lesbian one is strangely missing.

So everyone what do you think?

Where's Mary?
