Righteous Anger

Tue Sep 06, 2005 at 10:03:47 PM PDT

For some time now, I've been pitching the thesis that the Dem's lose elections because they appeal to the head, instead of the gut.

In other words, people respond first to the animal instincts -- of fear, anger, and lust.

Intellectual analysis ALWAYS loses out to these base emotions.

HOWEVER -- emotions of the head and heart win out, when they are not trumped by fear, anger, and lust.

The body blow Hurricane Katrina has delivered to the American body politic transcends the ugly wedge issues that are the GOP stock in trade.

Red America has seen the consequences of the BushCo GOP in action, and they are revolted.

The head and heart, when exposed to human suffering (without personal threat to life and limb) respond with love and compassion.

And THAT -- is what makes us human . . .

And THAT -- is what separates us from the hate mongers of the GOP.

The Cure for Bush-itis -- Vote Democratic!!!

I posted the following in the open thread that is combined with the poll on how best to be rid of Dubya.

In all seriousness, the Democrats are woefully behind the curve in the soundbite wars. But the implosion of the Bush Administration's credibility creates opportunities for major gains -- if we play our cards right.

As time permits and thoughts present themselves, I'll post more comments on these subjects.

The cure for Bush-itis?

I voted for impeachment, but I'd rather see him resign and spare us the agony. As long as he is removed, it doesn't matter how -- although the impeachment / resignation method of removal would help turn public opinion against the GOP -- which is a consummation devoutly to be wished. But getting rid of him is what counts -- the sooner the better.

This quote from the Salon article on "Scoring a Husband" suggests another way to think about how to be rid of the Bush abomination --

http://www.salon.com/sex/feature/2003/10/28/hubby_2/index1.html

"it's an advertising in-joke, apparently, that advertisers create a problem that people didn't know they had and then offer to solve it with stain remover, pain reliever, baked beans or whatever they're selling."

SO -- what pathology best describes the Dubya disease in the American body politic? Infection? Malignancy? Injury? Poisoning? All of the above?

And what soundbite best describes the Democratic cure for what ails us?

Which is, of course -- the title:

The Cure for Bush-itis -- Vote Democratic!!!
