. The next few weeks are going to bring an unprecedented amount of attention to the Pennsylvania primary.  'glutz78' had a thread earlier today highlighting the fact that although the PA primary is still 6 weeks away, the deadline is March 24 for registering new voters or any Republican or Non-partisan PA voters wishing to participate in the Democratic Party primary.

electoral reform

Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 03:27:06 AM PDT

Since Bush/Gore 2000 There has been manya water cooler discussion about electoral college reform and "why don't we just have direct election" etc.

Short of reframing the framers of the Constitution, there seem to be three deeply intertwined reform issues here.

1. increase the number of representatives in the house of representatives...maybe double or triple the number of reps.

Constitutional Amendments : A new growth industry

Fri Nov 05, 2004 at 10:32:58 AM PDT

I've always thought constitutional amendments should be safe, legal and rare.

But how many have been mentioned in the last few days.  We've got the marraige amendment, flag burning, the ahnuld amendment.  What others?

Given that the gay ballot initiatives at the state levels proved such a useful wedge and get-out-the vote tool for the Presidents team this time 'round, I would think the prospect of countering multiple amendments being tossed out to the states would create a real strategic challenge to the unity and focus of the opposition (loyal or otherwise).
