In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress. -- John Adams

Is anyone looking for bin Laden?

Sat Dec 30, 2006 at 09:04:29 AM PDT

Okay, I just want to know when we're going to stop screwing around in Iraq, and start "fighting terrorism" for real. Removing our own puppet from play isn't fighting the war -- the whole mess in Iraq has been a distraction we didn't need to get into when we did. (Okay, Saddam's capture, show trial, and execution work in our government's favor, silencing a man whose tongue could probably wag for years on secret deals we cut and information and assistance we gave his regime when it suited us, but that just covers our bad deeds, and doesn't expose those of our enemies. And anyone who claims we had a duty to rescue the Iraqis and the Kurds and so forth, needs to explain to some dead Sudanese and others why they don't matter to us like Iraqis do. Not to mention that our pocket tyrant at least kept the sectarian violence down. If Saddam had stayed alive and in power instead, would he have killed more civilians than our war will, before it's over, or less?)

So who's looking for bin Laden? Or do "we" already know where he is? Will he be pulled out of a hat, or some other rabbit-hole? Or will he remain at large precisely because he gives us an ongoing shadowy enemy to fight against, necessitating that more of our freedoms be whittled away, and more of our money go to ill-supervised, no-bid contractors?

Anyone?

Intelligent Design, Fundamentalists, and Homosexuality

Tue Dec 20, 2005 at 09:03:44 PM PDT

Okay, this is partly tongue in cheek, but I think you'll get the sentiment.

  • Intelligent Design teaches that a Creator created everything, and that everything has a reason for existing, right?

  • Many animal species exhibit homosexual patterns of behavior. Some short term, some lifelong. This must be part of the Creator's design.

  • Many humans exhibit homosexual patterns of behavior. Some short term, some lifelong. This also must be part of the Creator's design.

Since fundamentalists believe that their God deems homosexual behavior an abomination, or sinful, or whatever, then their God is not the Creator of ID fame, right? So which God do they really believe in?
