A Conversation and a Closet
Sun Jun 08, 2008 at 10:06:29 PM PDT
My mind is swimming. I've had my first real discussion of the general election with someone in my family who is cynical at best, conservative at worst.
I strongly believe in the Democratic Party. I have a father who raised me in a Democratic household, himself running for the Illinois state legislature as a democrat some years ago. Although I fully intend to vote for Obama in the fall, I'm having trouble coming out of the "Obama" closet except to the above mentioned relative. Most of my wife's family doesn’t necessarily support McCain as much as they are against Obama. Also, I don't feel intellectually ready or courageous enough to broach the subject with most people at this time. So, I use her as a boxer would use a sparring partner, sharpening my debate skills for future conversations.
Former Ark. Sen. David Pryor to undergo Open Heart Surgery
Tue Oct 10, 2006 at 12:10:23 PM PDT
Arkansas Senator Mark Pryor's office has released a statement saying that Mark's father, and former Arkansas Senator, David Pryor suffered Chest Pain last night and was treated at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. They've scheduled open heart surgery for tomorrow. The following quotes the press release. Hat tip to the
Arkansas Times Blog.
"My father's doctors are prescribing the necessary treatment for a full recovery," Mark Pryor said in a statement. "It is a comfort to know that he is under the care of some of best doctors in the nation at UAMS. Since Dad's last heart episode, 14 years ago, he remains physically fit and watches his diet and exercise. He has been a model patient. Of course, bed rest will be the most difficult aspect for him with such an active schedule. On behalf of my mother, Barbara, and brothers, David and Scott and our families, we ask for your continued prayer, support and friendship."
Rockefeller out of Ark. Gov. Race
Thu Jul 21, 2005 at 01:12:06 PM PDT
Lt. Gov. Win Rockefeller
pulled out of the race for Arkansas Governor Tuesday citing a blood disorder that could eventually turn into leukemia. This leaves both sides with two well known candidates, Attorney General Mike Beebe and Former Department of Homeland Security undersecretary Asa Hutchinson, running in their primaries unopposed.
The Schwarzenegger's Media Filtering
Tue Jun 07, 2005 at 09:13:54 AM PDT
The NY Times reported
Monday that Ahnold biographer Laurence Leamer was lead by a 'Today' producer to call Maria Shriver to obtain her okay to appear. Leamer, who had appeared 4 times before, balked at the idea. He called Shriver to notify her of what they had asked.
"I thought she would go ballistic when she heard that they were doing this," he said last week.
Not exactly. He quickly called her to straighten things out. "When I called Maria, it was not to have her tell them to have me on the show, but just to tell them it was unethical, that they should just do whatever they were going to do," he said. "And she told me, 'There must be something negative about me in the book. I know you are going to make Arnold look really good in this book and make me look really bad. Send me the galleys and then I'll decide.'"
He did not send the galleys and she never made a call on his behalf.
Shriver
denies most of what Leamer says in a reply to the Daily News.

What if Watergate Happened Today...
Mon Jun 06, 2005 at 10:16:58 AM PDT
via
TVnewser ...
There is a great article in the new
Newsweek . Columnist Jonathan Alter ponders what if Watergate happened today. The article places a 70's era Nixon, Woodward, Bernstein, and Felt, into 2004 America complete with a GOP congress and Fox News.
"...Those of us who hoped it would end differently knew we were in trouble when former Nixon media adviser Roger Ailes banned the word "Watergate" from Fox News's coverage and went with the logo "Assault on the Presidency" instead. By that time, the American people figured both sides were just spinning, and a tie always goes to the incumbent."

Hannity Coaching follow-up
Fri Apr 15, 2005 at 02:51:04 PM PDT
The issue that pontificator posted a
diary about earlier has been picked up by
TVNewser, a blog about televison news.
TVNewser posted a
follow-up consisting of emails from "insiders" stating what he was doing, including...
"I think most hosts "coach" their guests like that when the guests are nervous "regular" people," an e-mailer adds. "Hannity didn't tell them to say anything other than "what they saw." He was just giving them some quick media training to as far as I'm concerned. It would have been bad if he told them to say something OTHER than what they saw."
In
response MSNBC's Keith Olbermann emailed TVNewser and had this to say...
