Michelle Obama on C-Span now (7:30 p.m. EDT)

Sun May 04, 2008 at 04:34:07 PM PDT

and for the next hour or so. I've seen her in this type of forum and she's great. Very dynamic.  The Indiana Jefferson-Jackson Dinner will be on C-Span at 9:30 Eastern.

She started out on public education and is now describing why Obama's right for the job.

Quick diary for those who are interested.

Obama now more popular than Clinton in NJ

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 09:09:04 AM PDT

According to PolitickerNJ.com, a new Monmouth University/Gannett poll shows that Barack Obama is now more popular among Democrats and independents in New Jersey. The poll gives Obama a 58%-27% favorable unfavorable rating while Clinton has a 46%-43% rating. Also according to PolitickerNJ.com, the poll shows that by a 45%-38% margin, "more New Jersey and Democrat-leaning independents" (however that's defined) would rather see Obama win the nomination.

Against McCain, Obama wins 56%-32% and Clinton wins 52%-38%.

None of this comes as any surprise to me but it's nice to have a poll to cite.

Hillary's Tax Returns & Hidden Offshore Income

Thu Apr 03, 2008 at 05:14:19 PM PDT

Ben Smith of the Politico quotes Howard Wolfson as saying that Hillary's tax returns will be out in a day or two.  When they're released, just about everyone will look at the returns as an accurate disclosure of the Clintons' income. But the Clintons' tax returns will only show income that's taxable in the United States.  If the Clintons earned income outside of the United States, it's possible that they've kept some or all of that income offshore. If so, that income need not appear on their tax returns.

Can I Have An Amen For CNN (Seriously)

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 07:45:06 PM PDT

I've been down on CNN for a while but David Gergen, Carl Bernstein and Roland Martin deserve high praise for refusing to buy into talk radio's shit storm over Obama's comments about his grandmother being "a typical white woman" on Anderson Cooper 360 a few minutes ago. I can only paraphrase but Gergen again supported Obama saying that Obama had spoken the truth about race and stereotypes and that the media should not be trying to pick apart every word or phrase to play gotcha.  Bernstein was right with him and then Martin said explicitly that CNN should not be doing what talk radio does.  They all called for a candid, honest and adult conversation of race and stereotypes and for that they deserve credit.

I believe this segment will be shown again in the 11:00 p.m. EDT hour and it's well worth watching.

Sorry for the short diary but I wanted to get this out there.

Just What Obama Warned Against

Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 10:48:18 PM PDT

So I've spent several hours today listening to the media's commentary on Obama's speech.  CNN, MSNBC, even right wing radio to see how they would respond.  I've heard liberals and conservatives, Obama supporters and Clinton supporters, pastors and laypersons, whites and blacks.  Not one of them heard what Obama was saying.

What were they talking about?  Race, mostly, a little bit about religion, a good amount about the horse race and the effect of Obama's speech on the presidential campaign.  It's exactly what Obama was warning against.
