Fred Thompson, Lawyer-Lobbyist

In 1996 in Colorado, there was a nasty Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate race. Gene Nichol's campaign accurately derided front-runner Tom Strickland as a "lawyer-lobbyist." Strickland, the insider, won the primary. In the general election, though, he was slaughtered by Wayne Allard, who capitalized heavily on the "lawyer-lobbyist" tag. Strickland tried to run again, and again got slaughtered, as the public remembered him as a "lawyer-lobbyist." He's now done running for office.
We should immediately begin branding Fred Thompson as a "lawyer-lobbyist." Thomspon, a lawyer, has made over $760,000.00 in the last three years as a lobbyist for his corporate clients, including from foreign corporations.
It's time to put an end to the artificial image of Fred Thompson as an honest, trustworthy, ethical grandfather-type. Repeat after me: Fred Thompson, Lawyer-Lobbyist.
