Obama-Rama Parade of Accomplishments!

Mon Jul 07, 2008 at 06:02:55 PM PDT

That's right- a celebration of Barack Obama's accomplishments!

As a response to droogie6655321's post, Don't be a dummy. Know Obama's accomplishments as Senator, I've listed, below, a collection of accomplishments culled directly from Obama's website under the "Issues" pages.

I did this about a month ago and I've used the list many times as a response to anti-Obama propaganda and to help my own friends and family make their own informed decisions.

So, perhaps others may find this as useful as I have.

The March on The Pentagon: A Walk On The Dark Side

Tue Mar 27, 2007 at 08:35:29 PM PDT

Ever since the 2004 election, I'd been slowly retreating from activism out of fear and alienation (many of you might know what I'm talking about here).  When I realized how stagnant I'd become (a much longer story), I knew I had to do something big to shock myself back into action, so I took some big chances and made my way to D.C. all the way from New Mexico.

On the day of the march, I took a taxi to Lincoln Memorial Park, and was unknowingly dropped off at the very other end of the park- where a thousand counter-protestors had gathered to mock and face down the peace activists.

The cops wouldn't let me cross the street and told me I'd have to go through the crowd and around the entire park to get to the other side.

This is the footage I took as I made my way through:

In Oaxaca, 70K Peaceful Teachers Brace for The Next Crackdown

Thu Jun 15, 2006 at 10:31:07 PM PDT

Can you imagine, here in the U.S., 70,000 teachers gathered to peacefully protest the unconstitutional actions of their so-called leaders?  (Just got chills...)  Well, that's exactly what's happening down in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Earlier today, perro-amarillo wrote a first-hand account as he watched the events unravel from afar.

Follow me over the fold to read an American educator's plea for the world to witness this building movement, as she describes her own experience of being in the crowd when the police began dropping the tear gas cannisters.

Surprise! NCLB A Money-Machine for Private Companies, Study Shows

Wed Jun 22, 2005 at 03:21:43 PM PDT

The Education Policy Research Unit, an independent organization providing analyses of research and policy out of Arizona State University, has released a study that follows Fed dollars doled out under the current education law (a.k.a "No Corporation Left Behind").  The results are no surprise to anyone who suspected NCLB was carefully constructed to turn public money over to private hands, dealing a slow, gradual death-blow to public education altogether.

NCLB Funds Enrich For-Profit Companies, Study Says

Tempe, Ariz. (Tuesday, June 21, 2005)-

No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) funds flow from the government, through the states, and into the hands of private,
for-profit companies, according to "No Child Left Behind: Where Does the Money Go?" a policy brief released by the Education Policy Studies Laboratory at Arizona State University.

Sensenbrenner Makes A Case to IMPEACH!

Tue Jun 14, 2005 at 09:59:45 PM PDT

Yes, it's true.  James Sensenbrenner, the same idiot who has blocked Conyers from using any rooms at the Hill for his forum on the Downing Street Minutes, makes his case to members of Congress to impeach the president.

I know it sounds crazy, but I SWEAR, these are his very words!

NCLB: State Legislative Watch List

Sun Apr 03, 2005 at 02:52:53 PM PDT

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is slowly killing public education.

While its proponents loftily claim it was a bipartisan effort, the truth of the matter is that it was passed at a time when the nation was struggling to maintain a so-called "unified" front in the face of terrorism and tragedy.   Also, many misguided Dems believed in its promises without analyzing the means with which it would be achieved.

The fact that the law is under-funded is no longer the issue- at least not to those who know where the train wreck is headed. Do we really want a toxic law to be fully funded?  Would you want half a glass of poison, or would you prefer the whole glass?

It's increasingly apparent to many on the frontlines of education that the effects of NCLB are devastating and those who are following the trends are beginning to see the urgency in amending the law at the state level.  Even conservatives are begging the Bush Administration and Spellings to back off for fear of what is to come.

Kossacks Kick NCLB's Ass! Chester Finn Responds

Tue Mar 01, 2005 at 06:07:47 AM PDT

Last week, this diary told about Mia Kang, a 14 year-old student in Texas who, in a courageous act of defiance, wrote an essay opposing high-stakes testing instead of filling in the requisite bubbles.

Kossacks gave Mia the proverbial high-five by emailing and calling school officials in support of her protest.  Apparently, it was enough to get the attention of The Weekly Gadfly, a newsletter put out by The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation, a conservative research group populated with former officials of the Reagan and Bush Administrations and headed by Reagan's former assistant education secretary, Chester Finn Jr.

50-State Legislative Group Gives NCLB an "F"!

Thu Feb 24, 2005 at 05:40:16 PM PDT

Finally, there's an all-out clarion call being made by some serious folks on both sides of the divide regarding NCLB, exposing it for what it is- "flawed, convoluted and unconstitutional..."

It wouldn't be much news if it were the usual suspects, that being all the teachers, education specialists and students who are on the frontlines being systematically slaughtered by what a lot of us (educators) have been claiming all along is an intentional push for the dismantling of public education as a for-profit venture (heck, it's an annual 800 billion dollar booty!)

But no, THIS is the National Conference of State Legislatures and this is the result of their year-long bipartisan study of the effects of NCLB on public education.

Student Kicks NCLB's Texan Ass!

Sun Feb 20, 2005 at 01:03:50 PM PDT

Besides the fact that even Republican lawmakers are turning their backs on NCLB, a freshman at a Texas high school used her time during a practice run of the upcoming TAKS to write an essay on the impact impact high-stakes testing has on her learning life.

She took the advice of her counselors, who told her to choose her battles wisely (meaning TAKE THE DAMN TEST) and so she did- choosing to go ahead with crafting her thoughts on the matter instead of filling in the bubbles like a good little girl.

Now will she pay the price?

Freepers planning protest disruptions

Sun Jan 16, 2005 at 09:57:46 AM PDT

I know it's nothing new for freepers to agitate and disrupt protests, but someone from Counter-Inaugeral's got hold of the plan.

This from Michael Novick:

Anti-Racist Action obtained the following information about plannedpro-war counter-demonstrators at the DC inaugural protests. "PW"
refers to Protest Warriors, a group that has harassed anti-war and pro-justice demonstrations around the country. "FReepers" refers to the "Free Republic" group, a pro-GOP group that attacked demonstrators here in LA who protested Bush's first selection back in 2000. They intend to infiltrate and probably disrupt or provoke incidents during the scheduled protests in DC, and are planning their own picket at ANSWER offices in DC.--Michael
