Bugger the blogosphere

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 04:51:34 PM PDT

So here I am. I watch Rev. Jeremiah Wright yesterday, and think he gives an excellent speech that makes him a much more human and well rounded character than he's been portayed as in the media. I guess I was watching something else. MyDD's Jerome Armstrong, a bitter Democrat posing as an "outsider" when he hasn't been anything like that for the past four years, who hasn't had anything useful to say since 2007 and who demands puritanical purity from fellow netizens, stated that Obama was now going to throw Rev. Wright under the bus, because Obama is clearly just a terrible person who pulled the wool over our eyes. Never mind that Obama put his career on the line by sticking with Rev. Wright.

Ok, I can dig that. Then I come here, and see Obama excoriated by Kos for giving succor to the enemy. To which I can only say:

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU ARROGANT SONS OF BITCHES?

Indiana Delegate Prediction, wherein Obama asks "Where're all the delegates at?"

Sun Apr 27, 2008 at 03:42:26 PM PDT

As anyone who reads this site knows, especially anyone who chooses to delve into the diaries, Senator Hillary Clinton won the Pennsylvania primary on Tuesday by 9.14% over Senator Barack Obama. With over 200,000 more votes than her opponent, the non-psychotically-obsessed observers amongst us might think that Senator Clinton had scored a major victory that changes the face of the race.

The rest of us know that picking up a net of 10 delegates when you're down over 150 with only 408 more pledged delegates left to win in a state favorable isn't enough to do that, nor enough to get the 300+ undecided superdelegates to support you en masse.

After the jump, a (hopefully helpful) primer on how delegate math is done, and the delegate math for the next two contests on the schedule, the Indiana Primary on May 6th and the Guam caucus on May 3rd.

edit: This is a repost, given that ~30 people read the original and 20 of them rec'd it. Just going for a wider audience @ not 4am on a Friday. I acknowledge for the faux pas.

Encyclopedia McCain and the Curious Case of Mistaken Foreign Policy Facts

Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 02:01:04 PM PDT

It's been well covered here and elsewhere about how McCain mistook Sunni for Shia this past week. While I tend to be sympathetic to the idea that it was merely a mistake since I more than once have said one thing while meaning another, I did notice today another statement that strikes me as indicative of either mendacity or cluelessness.

"This goes back to when we didn’t have enough boots on the ground, after the initial military success,’’ he said. "Iranian clerics moved into the region, Iranian influence moved into southern Iraq, and we basically, and the British, did not do a great deal to prevent them."

Will the media pick up on the constant mistakes McCain makes when speaking about foreign policy?

Delegates, Or, WTF just happened. (Plus, What Happens Next)

It's been a really long time since I've posted a substantive diary on DKos, but given that I've already written this, and I'd like feedback on my thoughts, here goes:

So, I got asked by a friend this afternoon, "Scott, Obama reports having like 20 some more delegates than Clinton. Discuss."

Obama to File Exploratory Committee Papers today.

Tue Jan 16, 2007 at 07:17:13 AM PDT

Short on the details, but the Hotline blog states that he'll be filing his papers today and announcing his intention to run on his website.

"Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) has decided to run for president and will file exploratory committee papers later today, Democratic sources said. At 10:00 am ET, Obama will post a video announcement on his website."

This, while pretty much expected, means that there's at least 3 top tier candidates in the race now. It should be a fun primary season.

New Oklahoma Poll

Sun May 23, 2004 at 10:47:12 AM PDT

Done by the Daily Oklahoman, and done extremely crappily (300 phone calls, 200 online, they say the MOE is 4.4% for the general questions, and 5.7% for the primary questions, i'd wager it's at least 5%).

the articles are here, here, and here.

Sy Hersh's new piece on Abu Ghraib

Is right here.

that soldier who refused to participate in the torture of that Iraqi by refusing to release the dog should be commended. would that more of our men and women in the armed services could have shown such character and moral fiber.

make an open thread!

Kayln Free for OK District 2

Just a candidate I've met personally and think has some great public speaking ability, a wonderful story, and solid progressive morals. As a member of the Democratic Party Apparatus, I can't personally choose any sides until the end of the primary, but people who are interested in a seat that leans democratic, and getting a solid progressive should check her our and give her some bread if they like what they see.

  1. telling republicans who disagree with john kerry's policies that they're giving aid and comfort to terrorists
  2. telling republicans that if they don't like the course of policy, they can leave.
  3. bills called the clean air act actually meaning that i breathe cleaner air
  4. free trade meaning fair trade, instead of "exploit the poor for all they're worth" trade.
  5. 1-2 supreme court picks.
  6. no anti-gay hate amendment passed by the radical right wing.
add on your own wishes :)

America's Draft

Sun Apr 25, 2004 at 07:46:59 PM PDT

crossposted at www.freewriters.ca/blogger, a blog being put together with posters from all sides of the political spectrum. (kinda like tacitus but more centrist, we even have someone like bird dog =p) this is a bit controversial, but also an opportunity to define an issue before we're stuck with something that the republicans want to impose.

America needs a draft.
