Edwards Voters -- Why'd you do it?

Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 10:24:52 PM PDT

Kind of a just-outta-curiosity question: If you voted for JRE today...why?  I usually don't believe in such a thing as a "wasted" vote, but it's (almost) literally impossible for Edwards to become president this time around, seeing as he's withdrawn from the race.  So take my poll...

Obama's picked up endorsements from electeds at a steady clip these past few weeks, but yesterday he recieved what is, to me (and, I suspect, a lot of my fellow dKosers) one of the most important endorsements of the cycle...

Obama/Bradley '08?

Sun Jan 06, 2008 at 09:20:43 AM PDT

Obviously, this is premature, but ex-Sen. Bill Bradley's (D-NJ) endorsement of Obama this morning struck the thought in me -- wouldn't Bradley just be the perfect running mate for our boy Barack?  The case for (and against) Obama/Bradley '08 after the jump:

Obama's Fundraising Strategy: What's He Up To?

Mon Apr 09, 2007 at 05:57:11 PM PDT

Note: Cross-posted from Danielmunz.com.

Jon Chait flags an item in the Wall Street Journal about the Obama fundraising machine, or lack thereof:

Teaneck, N.J., lawyer Al DeCotiis says he and a few other Democratic boosters decided a year ago to select one presidential candidate for whom to raise money in the state. The group personally interviewed most of the major candidates, but couldn't get Mr. Obama. "We must have put in five or six calls," Mr. DeCotiis recalls. "For whatever reason, he didn't respond. Then we met with Hillary and we decided to endorse her and work aggressively for her presidency."

Remembrance of Things Past: The Danger of History

Tue Mar 08, 2005 at 04:39:28 AM PDT

Note: This is a repost from my new blog, Politics and War. The original post is here. I am sharing it because I would like the Kos community's feedback. Comments/trackbacks to either are appreciated.

Remembrance of Things Past: The Danger of History

Jeremy has the first of what looks to be a landmark series of posts on the use of the term "fascist" in modern political discourse. He makes the most compelling argument I've seen for applying the term liberally. You should read the whole thing. If you don't, you're a fascist. (No, you're not.) But I want to add one thing to Jeremy's points.

N.B.: Prepare yourself for some decidedly gloomy analysis.

The Sad State of the American Right (From my school newspaper)

Tue Feb 15, 2005 at 12:02:24 AM PDT

The following article was published in my school newspaper, The Yale Herald. We've had a lot of columns lately from righties whining about how liberals hate America and love Saddam. I thought it was about time someone gave them a what-for...so I did it myself.

A Friend in Need (Repost from First-Draft.com)

Fri Feb 04, 2005 at 02:29:21 PM PDT

The following is a repost from first-draft.com. I claim no authorship; I am posting it here in the hopes of reaching a larger audience. While we fight to stop Bush from destroying Social Security, we can also help people who can't get by day-to-day. If you find it worthwhile, please do not hesitate to recommend this diary. Thanks.

One of Eschaton's regulars, smalfish, is in a major spot of difficulty:

Apparently the government in their wisest of wise wisdom has found that it is leagal to steal someone's house and I am caught up in a shitstorm.

I had no idea what kind of bullshit was lurking untill yesterday when a local news reporter wanted to interview me because my house had just been sold without my knowledge.Needless to say I was floored.

For 1000 dollars and some change my homeowners association has thrown me and my family under the bus,and its going to take some serious running to get out from under it.

You can donate through Paypal to help smalfish keep his house. Click here.

Bush: The Ignorance President

Few things make for great liberal bedtime reading like Jon Chait's classic TNR column in defense of Bush hatred.

Dean's DNC Thoughts - Straight from the Horse's Mouth

Tue Nov 16, 2004 at 08:01:33 PM PDT

The following is taken from a post on my own blog, Bulldog Blue:

Just got back from hearing Howard Dean talk about the media. He made a lot of points that I agree with (re-regulate ownership, back away from news-as-entertainment, encourage blogs, etc.), unsurprisingly. More importantly, if by "importantly" you mean "relevant to the latest story caught in the blogosphere's teeth," he revealed his latest thinking about running for the chair of the DNC. Here's a few tidbits:

John Kerry Seven Minute Deathwatch

Tue Oct 12, 2004 at 09:19:22 PM PDT

Hey, Kossacks-

Over at my blog, Bulldog Blue, I've started a little project called the John Kerry Seven Minute Deathwatch. You can read more here, but the concept is essentially this: I want to compile a list of all the people/creatures who would be dead today if John Kerry had waited seven minutes, instead of acting decisively.

So far I have Jim Rassmann, Chic Hecht, and Vanessa Kerry's hamster. Anyone else I can add? I'm open to liberal interpretations of the guidelines.

I hope the Kos community can help me remind everyone what a decisive, leadership-providing guy John Kerry is.

NEW BLOG: Bulldog Blue

Tue Sep 28, 2004 at 08:16:59 PM PDT

Just wanted to let the community know about the launch of my new blog. It's called Bulldog Blue, and it's written by myself and four other left-of-center Yale students and alums. I think we're going to generate some really interesting discussion, and participation from the Kos community is heartily welcomed.

You can find it at http://www.bulldogblue.com

Homeland Security: The "Oh, Really?" Factor

Wed Jul 14, 2004 at 03:42:43 PM PDT

Today, Hotline reported:
DHS Sec. Tom Ridge said "the warnings that he gave the public last week about a possible terror attack" have nothing to do with politics. Ridge: "We don't do politics at Homeland Security"
Oh you don't, huh? Well, that's news to me:
"Administration sources tell TIME that employees at the Department of Homeland Security have been asked to keep their eyes open for opportunities to pose the President in settings that might highlight the Administration's efforts to make the nation safer. The goal, they are being told, is to provide Bush with one homeland-security photo-op a month."
Way to go, Tom.

OT: Help my friend out!

Fri Jul 02, 2004 at 08:47:58 AM PDT

Sorry to use a diary for this, but it's for a good cause. My good friend Alexander is running around England for the London Symphony Orchestra's donation drive. So, if you have some money to spare, go sponsor him. Even toss in a $0.01 for Kos, if you like!

Thanks in advance!

NYC Legislature - The Election Cycle?

Mon Jun 07, 2004 at 07:39:57 AM PDT

I'm a NY resident, and while things are messed up in Washington, things are arguably worse in our state legislature. The process is completely sclerotic, with Pataki, Bruno, and Silver running more or less everything.

So, what are the chances of change? Can anyone more familiar with NY politics point me to some possible challengers that are taking on incumbent assemblymen or senators this cycle? What are the battles to watch? Which legislators won't have much of a fight on their hands?

Thanks in advance!

Drain Dubya's Coffers...With Your Mailbox?

Fri Jun 04, 2004 at 09:32:44 PM PDT

Every now and then, someone here on Kos chuckles about receiving letters thanking them for supporting President Bush, along with multiple, glossy photos of Dear Leader. I chuckled at these too...until I had an idea.

Your Fantasy SCOTUS

Sun Apr 18, 2004 at 05:05:42 PM PDT

In the midst of all the bad news, let's have a little fun. If you could make your ideal SCOTUS, who would be on it? A few of mine:

Akhil Amar
Harold Koh
Cass Sunstein
Lawrence Lessig

Fill out my Court. Replace some choices. The floor is yours.

Bush Plays Politics with Dept. of Homeland Security

Mon Mar 15, 2004 at 08:01:15 PM PDT

Reposted from my blog, Politics and War:

Ezra delivers some pretty appalling news (via TIME):

Administration sources tell TIME that employees at the Department of Homeland Security have been asked to keep their eyes open for opportunities to pose the President in settings that might highlight the Administration's efforts to make the nation safer. The goal, they are being told, is to provide Bush with one homeland-security photo-op a month.
