arguments

Sat Nov 24, 2007 at 09:10:09 AM PDT

I'm trying to develop rhetorical tactics to disarm those whom I find wrong.  So far I've  been thinking about how their arguments are wrong and how to derail the juggernaut of a couple of the rightwing memes.  I also, due to personal beliefs (Quaker influenced) find it hard to resort to just adding labels (that fit) or name calling.  I also feel that these people are for the most part just (self?)led down the wrong path.  My current thought is that for the Christian conservatives, are hypocritical, but refuse to realize it.

New record

Thu Aug 09, 2007 at 08:13:15 PM PDT

Hey its not warm or anything, but we just set a new record for lowest Artic ice area.  Yeah!!  By the way , this is a month before the normal yearly minimum is usually reached.

In previous record sea ice minima years, ice area anomalies were confined to certain sectors (N. Atlantic, Beaufort/Bering Sea, etc). The character of 2007's sea ice melt is unique in that it is dramatic and covers the entire Arctic sector. Atlantic, Pacific and even the central Arctic sectors are showing large negative sea ice area anomalies.

See here for details:Cryosphere Today site

Poll

In which year will the Artic ice cap totally disapear.

Where are our standards?

Sat Aug 04, 2007 at 05:35:22 AM PDT

This Kevin Sites Hotzone is a good article talking about how our guvmnt (and how well that fits, with the current administration -- no need for intelligence, honesty, dignity, just gotta be one of da boys).
Mr Rushing brings out - our Secretary of Defense Lies and takes no account of winning the hearts and minds:

RUSHING: When (former Defense Secretary Donald) Rumsfeld would go out in the press and say they show beheadings, I'm not sure if he was misinformed or he was lying.
SITES: Was it an outright lie?

RUSHING: It's not for me to say. It's hard to believe he could be so misinformed for such a long period of time because he did it over and over and over again. He did it after I informed some of his senior aides that that wasn't the case — and that every time he said that in the press and they played that clip in the Arab press, that not only did he lose credibility, because everyone in the Arab world who watches Al Jazeera all the time and they all do, they know they've never seen a beheading on Al Jazeera.

Cal Thomas, (un?)wittingly steps into the heart of conservative hypocrisy.
Though I rarely find Cal Thomas sometimes not an extremist, and he is not a loud mouthed clown like AnnC, Newt(sometimes), and Rush(=evil Krusty), this time his nonsense hit home I find this one easy to backhand into his court.  And it's not only me, hit a nerve with muslims.

Thomas' commentary prompted the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to urge its supporters to contact WTOP and voice their concerns. WTOP received many calls and emails from both sides.

On Wednesday, WTOP invited Ibrahim Hooper, a CAIR spokesperson and Cal Thomas, to separately respond to Thomas' previous comments.

In his reponse, Hooper said Thomas' comments undermined CAIR's effort to promote mutual understanding and social justice.

"For him, I would imagine that his next step is the expulsion of the Muslim-American community," Hooper said. "We condemn extremism. We've condemned terrorism....We've issued dozens of condemnations on dozens of terrorism attacks."

Whats important here? Nancy's clothes?!?!?

Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 07:19:04 AM PDT

I was astounded by the Washington T(P)oast ('net site) today. On the front page was a piece about Nancys' clothes. OH COME ON. Lets see; she's the benefactor and end result of multiple political upsets, shes a an attractor of right wing ire and fear, she now (soon?) holds/influences a considerable amount of world power and we want to talk about her clothes. Do we talk about Kennedy's suits, Bush's haircuts, or Hastert's tie selection? NOT ON THE FRONT PAGE. Its not a a slow news day, so don't bring up that argument.

I did some research with new.Google, and thankfully found no similar articles, so someone on the web Editor's staff is probably just nutty. But please stop it! This does not help us talk about serious matters, such as Iraq, Torture, and $$$$.

ARGH.

counterpoint - Bush goes after huge subsidies

Tue Mar 08, 2005 at 06:14:14 AM PDT

Don't get me wrong, I'm against a lot of what Bushy stands for, but it has to be pointed out that maybe he's found $5bill. or so to save from the budget. And by the way, setting the GOP against itself! (Bonus Round) Agricultural subsidies, specifically cotton, are getting out of hand. The Washington post reports that Bushy plans to slowly (like a glacier) over 10 years reduce these, by capping individual payments and !gasp! reducing loopholes for big business farms. WP reports that this affects a lot of people who voted for him. Cough Knife in the back Cough! Article link
