Send WV volunteers some love-Food Bomb III

Tue May 13, 2008 at 10:00:28 AM PDT

This diary is a continuation of highacidity's Food Bomb I and refinish69's Food Bomb II successful North Carolina and Indiana efforts.

Debate rages on around this site anticipating West Virginia's electoral returns tonight, with profiles of this state presented and debated, the electoral makeup dissected and analyzed.

In the midst of these, please don't forget the hardworking, selfless WV Obama '08 volunteers and staffers who persist in laying the seeds of emphasizing our commonalities and change possible via the election of this truly special presidential candidate.  They're knocking on doors, they're calling homes.

Feed 'em!

Preliminary organizational diary-Food for Obama Campaign Offices Fundraiser

Sat May 03, 2008 at 11:37:07 AM PDT

The Obama campaign currently has 69 offices in North Carolina and Indiana staffed by high-quality, dedicated, selfless people who are contributing to this amazing effort to install a transparent, open executive who can help this country start to get back on track.

Let's show them that their efforts have not been unnoticed.

On Monday night, let's make sure each one of these offices receives a food delivery from a DailyKos reader.

This diary is a preliminary organizational tool which I hope will enable us to make this happen on Monday.  Or in short, we need volunteers!

Hey, whatever happened to that "go f!ck yourself" guy? - A Katrina Diary

Sat Aug 05, 2006 at 09:02:03 AM PDT

* Charmaine Neville, of the famous Neville family, who told a soul-wrenching tale of rape and chaos in New Orleans during the aftermath of Katrina

* Dr. Ben Marble, the Mississippi physician who told Cheney "go fuck yourself, you asshole" to his face.

* Jabbar Gibson, the 18 year-old who hotwired a bus and drove a group of Katrina evacuees to safety only to face criminal charges for "extreme looting"

Three Katrina survivors who grabbed headlines during the crisis.  In honor of wmtriallawyer's call for us to commemorate the tragic and infuriating events of last year, I think it is apropos to present an update on these three survivors:

Hurricane Katrina Survivor Stories, Part III

Sat Jul 08, 2006 at 09:54:55 AM PDT

It's a little late for Mr. Bush's birthday, but here is my belated birthday present to him.  A reminder of a region in need:

Below are a compilation of some of the latest Hurricane Katrina survivor stories that I have housed at dkosopedia.  As several diarists have emphasized, it is incredibly important for us to keep a record of accounts of survivors and the general condition of the impacted areas as the Bush administration and its cohorts begin the task of historical revisionism.  Please consider contributing survivor stories which you come across to the dkosopedia entry, Hurricane Katrina survivor stories, or for those doing research, remember that this resource is there.

Wal-Mart: A Holiday Treat and Public Opinion

Sat Dec 03, 2005 at 04:43:51 PM PDT

First, a treat.  Please enjoy this lovely holiday tale describing the joys of Shopping While Black at Wal-mart.  Let it warm your heart and fill your mind with goodwill towards the "Always low prices. Always" megastore:
Wal-Mart... last week called sheriff's deputies to apprehend a GAF manager on a bogus bad check rap while he was trying to buy this year's gift card supply.  "I keep going over and over the incident in my mind," said Reginald Pitts, the 34-year-old human resources manager for the roof material manufacturer's Tampa distribution center. "I cannot come up with any possible reason why I was treated like this except that I am black." [snip]

(Updated) Superdome Evacuees to be Bused to AstroDome Stadium in Texas

Wed Aug 31, 2005 at 08:53:54 AM PDT

Per MSNBC:
Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco said everyone still in the city, now huddled in the Superdome and other rescue centers, needs to leave. She said she wanted the Superdome evacuated within two days.

"We need to evacuate the people in the Superdome and other shelters and in the hospitals," she told NBC's "Today" show on Wednesday. "Those are our basic missions today."

Houston officials later said those evacuees would be sent via 475 buses to the city's Astrodome. The stadium's schedule was cleared through December to make it available.

"Would cause riots": Bizarre Reasoning

Sat Aug 13, 2005 at 12:26:51 PM PDT

This is the latest in an ongoing saga between the government and the ACLU concerning the release of photos and videos depicting torture and depravity visited upon Abu Ghraib detainees.

[Update] Golden Opportunity: The Clear Channel Counter-Protest

Wed Aug 10, 2005 at 01:07:39 PM PDT

I'm submitting this diary because I strongly believe that whorish Clear Channel and the Bushbots have just presented Camp Casey with an enormous opportunity to disseminate their message.  Let me know if this is a waste of diary space, as I will delete it immediately.

As you probably already know, Clear Channel is sponsoring a counter-protest barbecue with free food and beer to taunt Cindy Sheehan and Camp Casey.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY OF ENORMOUS PROPORTIONS.

Abu Ghraib Amicus Brief and the GOP's Inversion of Reality

Sun Aug 07, 2005 at 02:45:52 PM PDT

The Defense Department was ordered by a US District Court judge to release a new set of photos of abuse at Abu Ghraib on June 30, and was granted an extension until July 22 (to, as the Defense Department claimed, redact the faces and identifying characteristics of the torture victims).   According to Seymour Hersh, this set of photos depict acts such as child rape.

Rather than complying with the order, the Defense Department filed a new argument insisting that release of the photographs would "endanger the life or physical safety" of armed service personnel.

On Thursday, 14 media and public interest groups filed an amicus brief, urging the court to demand the release of the new set of photos.

How to Become a Banana Republic: Federal Appeals Court Okays Military Commissions for Gitmo Prisoner

Fri Jul 15, 2005 at 09:01:47 AM PDT

Just in from AP:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A federal appeals court put the Bush administration's military commissions for terrorist suspects back on track Friday, saying a detainee at the Guantanamo Bay prison who once was Osama bin-Laden's driver can stand trial.

A three-judge panel ruled 3-0 against Salim Ahmed Hamdan, whose case was halted by a federal judge on grounds that commission procedures were unlawful.

Why is this significant?

Conyers, Apian, and Arthur: Combine and Amplify Your Efforts!!!

Sun May 29, 2005 at 10:04:24 AM PDT

Apian's recent recommended diary, Mad As Hell And Not Going To FAKE It Anymore urges Kossacks to flood media sources with demands that the Downing Street minutes story receive adequate coverage.

Congressman Conyers has posted a diary urging Kossacks to sign a letter to President Bush which demands an explanation of the Downing Street Minutes and the very likely illegal nature of the Iraq War.

Arthur is advocating a media strike, hitting the media outlets where it hurts for their complete failure to serve as our fourth estate at this most crucial moment.

THESE EFFORTS NEED TO BE COMBINED AND AMPLIFIED.

Troll Diary: Shameless Saturday Whoring for Kos Recipes

Sat May 28, 2005 at 10:37:00 AM PDT

Since there don't seem to be any troll diaries around right now to swap recipes, I decided to create one myself.  Let your revulsion of the following passage translate into some recipes:

Revenge of the Lott?

Wed May 25, 2005 at 08:46:01 AM PDT

Did Lott orchestrate this entire nuclear option and compromise scenario to lessen the grip of zealots on the GOP and undermine Frist? This diary is an expansion of a comment I made in thirdparty's GOP meltdown: Lott helped forge compromise diary.

The diary contains this statment from Trent Lott:

...John [McCain] deserves credit for helping to find an accommodation. Bill Frist deserves credit.

Bill Frist deserves credit?  For what?  Mere political posturing, or something more?

I think Lott was being truthful when he asserted that Frist deserved credit:

Bushists and buyers' remorse

Sat May 14, 2005 at 06:50:06 PM PDT

The Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA)'s report studying characteristics of Bush supporters examined the wide chasm between Bushists' view of the Bush administration's policies and reality way back in October 2004:

Victory for Democratic Messaging! GOP's Internal Poll Shows Democratic Filibuster Framing Worked!!!

Thu Apr 21, 2005 at 07:20:08 AM PDT

Democratic legislators have engineered several victories over the past few months based on an enhanced ability to streamline and disseminate a meme.

The Dems have garnered another such victory over public framing of the filibuster debate.  The GOP argued that the filibuster is illegal and have begun calling the nuclear option "the Constitutional option."  Democrats have argued that the filibuster is an integral component of a deliberative governmental system, and warned the public against contemplating such a radical change to Congress.  The Democratic frame worked:
