poor like you

Interesting statistic in this morning's WSJ article, "New Programs Spur Working Poor to Begin Saving."

"One-third of U.S. households have no financial assets. An additional one-fifth have insignificant holdings."

Doing the (very elementary) math:

33% + 20% = 53% = more than half of American households have no or insignificant financial holdings

Think about it for a while and watch your brain implode.

Cancel the Inauguration-- donate the money

Thu Dec 30, 2004 at 08:08:05 AM PDT

Here's a way we as a country can help the tsunami victims and be compassionate, generous, and humble all at the same time: cancel the inauguration.  All of it. Cancel the parades, parties, balls and donate the money that would have been spent on them for relief for the most devastating natural disaster in our lifetime. Hold a small dignified swearing in at the White House. That would be a good gesture to show the world America's best face and that actions really do speak louder than words.
