The tide pulls on Salinger

The Catcher in the Rye is the latest victim of Red Tide in Maine:

I could easily be wrong, but I think a few years ago this would not have been newsworthy, or even happened.

Sounds like kooky-fringe to me.  I mean, the 14 year-olds this one woman is trying to protect from exposure to Salinger's "controversial" writing are going home, flipping on their X-boxes, shooting, killing, bashing.... then settling in to watch some TV...  Ahhh, television.

Now, Maine is a Kerry state, but I think the national tide is strong enough to influence the school board and the media.  This story doesn't deserve the attention.

Seems to me there is a lot of great stuff here.  I don't usually stick my head up through the internet hatch to say anything, but this place has sort of called my name.

I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to this, but I'm hoping my perspective will contribute to the stew on an occasional basis.

My gratitude to Mr. Kos and the many who make this place what it is.
